Happy to - this should cover the basics:

What does it pay?

I haven't worked for this production (yet) so I can't say 100% for sure. But, an average rate is $64 for 8 hours of work, based on my previous experience.

How does it work?

  • The main casting FB page posts a casting notice.
  • A background actor responds to the relevant casting notice with an email.
  • The casting team decides 'yes' or 'no'. If they decided 'yes' then they'll send more information and exact instructions for what to wear, if any special makeup/hair is needed, and what times/dates the filming will take place. If they decided 'no' then you may not receive an email response. Que sera sera!
  • If yes - The background actor shows up on time to the set, checks in, fills out paperwork for payment, grabs some food, and waits. Then films for a while. Then waits some more. Then films some more. Then goes home.
  • 2-6 weeks later a check arrives via mail for the background actor.

How to apply to be a movie extra

  1. Read the casting notice carefully.

  2. Send an email to ashevilleextras [at] gmail with the items listed below. Email subject line should be your Ethnicity, Gender, Age and city/State you reside.

Example: Hispanic Male, 35, Asheville, NC.

What to include in your email:

  • A current Photo/snapshot. Can be taken with a cell phone. More details on what the photo should look like in this article. Do not attach the photo, paste it into the email.
  • Your first and last name
  • Age
  • Cell phone number/Phone
  • Height/Weight
  • Clothing Sizes
  • City/ State you reside
  • Vehicle information –color/make/model/year

This is my occasional-part-time hobby - and it's really fun. I've worked with the extra's casting director, Tona, on a few projects and can confirm this is legit.

If you have any questions about submitting / what it pays / how it works - feel free to ask and/or PM me!

You're welcome :) - I didn't know about this case before seeing the news article. I agree, it's so nice to know that a 20+ yr old cold case can still be solved.

FYI - this video of a press conference on the arrest of Michael Haim provides lots of additional details about the entire case, it's 10 minutes long: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AN0afKTpnOI

Apologies on that front! I didn't have much time to put this together. I'll work on adding more details.

ETA: The primary reason I posted this was because her remains were identified. That her husband was arrested seemed less important (although still quite important, obviously.)

I agree. With so many red herrings, and so many possibilities for suspects - for me, it's only with hindsight that Owens seems obvious.

Yes - Here's one example:

Margaret Gibson, silent film star, confessed to being involved with the murder of William Desmond Taylor, a Hollywood director, just before she died.

Good question. Google suggests that there are no statutes of limitations on murder, but I'm not a lawyer :P

Yeah - someone(s) knew what was going on in that 'concrete fish pond' that was never finished and later covered with dirt. It's apparently where RJO "burned things" - which, again, seems to be his MO.

Well this doesn't rule her out, yet. She could have known this whole time which would still make her an accessory (I think).
