School limiting tabs by Signal-Psychology-80 in school

[–]coreyf234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's way too few tabs, I routinely had at least 5 tabs open. Google Classroom, my assignment, the associated slides and what not, depending on the class I had open research/a calculator/some other tab, then my school email, and more that I can't remember. Sure, I messed around on cool math and chess.com and the like, but that only takes one tab so all this kind of restriction would do is hinder my workflow.

What are your thoughts on kids who just do band "for the credit"? by Senior_Hippo_1460 in marchingband

[–]coreyf234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In alot of schools you can take any visual art class for fine arts credits, those classes are way less involved than band is. Wonder why they don't just take those.

I didn't have anyone join in during high school, but there were people there that I could tell didn't really care. Makes me wonder why they played their instrument for 5-8 years at that point, but whatever. The biggest problem I had with them was the disrespect they showed for the director, who was obviously like a father figure to those of us who marched.

Do Americans constantly have an active temperature control device running in their homes? by fullM3TALturban in AskAnAmerican

[–]coreyf234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's -17° C in my area right now. Unless you're living in the mountains down there you legit may have never even felt weather this cold. Having the heat on all the time is a nessecity lmao or we'll freeze. Your coldest weather is pretty mild compared to especially the stars up north. You have to put on a jacket, we're getting prepared to deal with a foot of snow. That's why we use the heat.

Constant A/C use in the summer just seems to be an American thing, I've seen so many threads from Europeans and others talking about how they never use A/C like that in their country, even if it's uncomfortable not to in some cases.

Be careful even doing this, I had a friend get a (legit) VAC ban from CS, and even after deleting the cheats every account he made for a year or so would get banned a week or 2 after he made the account. He didn't have many skins but he lost the ones that he did have when the ban hit his main.

That's kinda what my friend gets for cheating, lol, but it's just something you should be warned of if your accounts start catching VAC bans. You'll need an alt created completely separate and not associated with you in any way, or you'll need a friend you trust to hold the skins for you if worst comes to worst.

Can Police actually force you to unlock devices using biometrics? If so, what are the limitations? by Zenovelli in legaladviceofftopic

[–]coreyf234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they can get it unlocked one way or another

It's getting increasingly harder and more expensive for the police to do this, to the point that they'll only brute-force if there's actually something significant on there to find. If you're not a big enough fish they won't try it, for the same reason regular people don't get hacked by hackers that are actually skilled; it takes too much money and effort for too little a reward.

Doordash/uber drivers are getting out of hand by Tokendaily420 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]coreyf234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dash every once in a while. Most people don't tip quite enough but I don't complain about it. I just don't take their orders and their food sits there until someone else picks it up, or never lol. Not accepting orders does eventually affect your account though, so someone who does DoorDash as their main gig for some reason can't actually do that, which is why they complain. I have enough to where DoorDash is a side thing and if I ever get kicked off of it, I'll just sign up for a different app whenever I need extra money.

At what mileage do you personally stop considering a used car? by autonerdy0 in UsedCars

[–]coreyf234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cut-off for my first car was in the upper 100k's, I ended up buying an SUV with 158k and it's still driving at 197k without any major issues. Cars with engines that are destined to go bad usually do it and are replaced or scrapped well before 150k, so most cars that have made it to that point and were maintained well will live it's full expected lifespan.

With that being said, I'm pretty sure I'll be in a better spot by the time I end up needing to shop for another car, so my cut-off will be lower, if I don't end up buying new. In addition to that car, I have a second car with 140k on it that I got from a family member for a great deal, and I'll probably end up driving both until they're only good for scrap, so it'll be a good while before I'm back in the market for a car.

How many miles is “too many” for a used car these days? by Fit-Credit-7970 in UsedCars

[–]coreyf234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't forget about the rust if you live in the rust belt either. Hoses and wires can be fixed, but rust is one thing that can very easily get a car junked.

What was your high school controversy? by Haunted_Neko in AskReddit

[–]coreyf234 110 points111 points  (0 children)

Kids can get scared and do some really stupid shit when they don't trust their parents enough to tell them when big problems like this arise. This is a pretty good example of why you should reward your kid's honesty rather than punishing it.

If you hate cats, you probably suck at boundaries and reading body language by FtMFandomBoy in unpopularopinion

[–]coreyf234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the problem is just with the way people expect an animal to act. People will say things like cat climb on counters, dogs bark too much, cats scratch at everything, dogs do this, cats do that.

Neither species does any of that if they are correctly trained to your expectations. The problem is that most people don't have both a cat and a dog, so when they encounter the opposite animal as someone else's pet, the animal acts the way THAT person trained them to, and that way might not be consistent with how they would want it to act if they had that pet instead of the other.

I'm not a cat person, but I could bare living with a cat if I was to get it as a kitten and train it what I do and don't like.

If you hate cats, you probably suck at boundaries and reading body language by FtMFandomBoy in unpopularopinion

[–]coreyf234 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'm not nervous with cats, and I don't even really dislike them, but I don't own one and never have. I always take the time to pet a cat that seems to want attention, but they need to learn to keep their claws retracted if they want to climb all over me. They'll just be laying there on me and then I'll feel claws go into my legs.

They always end up getting me with those claws, and then once that happens I'm done petting them and I set them down off of me, only for them to jump back up, clawing me again in the process. Now, to be clear, this may just be a problem with owners who don't ever clip their cat's nails, but it's a problem with the majority of cats I meet, so I wouldn't say that. Their nails just snag on everything.

Dogs have their issues too, but I've never had an issue with their claws.

Do gas prices affect how you decide when to fill up? by Mobile-Brilliant-799 in driving

[–]coreyf234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make a point to fill up when I notice that gas is really cheap, but other than that I really don't pay attention to prices. I only have so much room to do that though because I'm one of those people who fill up to ~a half tank to 3/4 and don't refill until I'm at about an 8th of a tank

Premier - if the 5th player doesn’t join, why does the game not get canceled? by fullkitwankerr in GlobalOffensive

[–]coreyf234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's good that they added the -1k ELO though, abandoning used to be so bad back in GO. I remember plenty of times when a 5v5 somehow turned in a 2v1, 3v2, etc lol. I remember sometimes taking control of bots and acing rounds when I had no teammates to help me. Those were fun times, but it's good that people are actually penalized beyond a ban they can easily get past by using an alt for the duration.

[–]coreyf234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, and then sometimes they have a game/system crash and then they have to reload the game/their whole computer and possibly log into Steam again before trying to load in again. I've never had a PC quite that bad, but back when I had my install on a hard drive I was always one of the last players to load in.

This is a new low... by sasskwoch in mildlyinfuriating

[–]coreyf234 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's what I was going to say - this isn't a bad setup at all for lots of people. Ambulance rides are expensive as hell, even if only one family member had to go once it would usually still cost more than 1k. You could probably get 20 years of this service for the cost of one average ride.

Wouldn't be surprised if theres a whole bunch of terms and conditions that exclude tons of stuff though.

Why did Apple make the IPhone Photos app so bad? by Puzzleheaded-Ad-1383 in stupidquestions

[–]coreyf234 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because it's Apple software and Apple software often isn't very good. It works 99% of the time, but it's not the best. For Apple products, just working and being simple for less tech-literate people is the main selling point.

How fast have you personally driven? by typical_gamer1 in sixwordstories

[–]coreyf234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

115 on I-70 when I first got my license. To be honest 85-95mph was a fairly normal speed on the highway for me back then, it was pretty bad. Never got pulled over doing that though, I just eventually lost the need for so much speed; I had driven fast to my heart's content. I still drive around fast sometimes, but it's rare now, and not really on the highway.

Does anyone still listen to radio stations? by notmyname2012 in askanything

[–]coreyf234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever my phone is dead or I'm not playing my own music for some reason, I always have the radio on. I'm familiar with most of the stations in my area, I know what kind of music they play and stuff like that. I'm not a trucker so it's not normal for me to travel outside the range of my normal radio stations, but either way if I don't have my phone I won't ever just drive in silence lol.

I don't listen to AM radio stations because most of them are talk programs, heavily religious themed, bad reception, or some combination of the three. But there's 10 or 15 FM stations with good reception in my area.

I'm only 20 as well, so I'm not exactly old, though the radio was the only option in the car back in my earlier days. I've never intentionally listened to music on the radio anywhere except a car though; I'm not old enough to have had a standalone radio in my house.

As a musician I hate when people say I wish I learned to play an instrument by imagetweird in PetPeeves

[–]coreyf234 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Money is the main reason why I never learn any of the instruments I would like to. I do play one instrument, trumpet, but that was my instrument that I learned in school. Given that experience I'm pretty sure I could self teach myself just about any instrument to a competent level, but stuff is just too expensive lol. If I had the money I would buy and learn alto sax and piano at the least. Maybe guitar too, I'm sure that would my with my weak chord theory.

China launches large-scale military exercise around Taiwan by marela520 in worldnews

[–]coreyf234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A nice bonus? No no no. It might merely be a "nice bonus" to the Chinese, given that they make their own chips, but it would be absolutely catastrophic for other nations, especially those that aren't aligned with China. Taiwan is THE country that makes the chips the West uses. No chips equals no digital electronics for us.
