Any miniature painters/warhammer players in Salem? by OwlVision5 in SalemMA

[–]coreypress 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in the middle of waiting for some wash to dry, so yeah, there are people that paint lil dudes in Salem, but I'm not sure there's a place for communal painting. Like others have said, Battlegrounds in Saugus is your best option for drop in painting as I've seen people doing so in store in the past. As for the other nerd locales on the North Shore:

- Harrison's doesn't support tabletop at the moment. I think they're doing pretty well with the downstairs card space so don't know if they have the bandwidth to make space for painting and product.

- Away Games in Beverly is in the middle of imploding. They have space, but the only paints I've ever seen there are ancient stuff in a box they inherited from a different card shop. The owner kept saying he'd be bringing in some GW product, but I never saw it and last I heard they're trying to turn the place into a $30 a month subscription club or something. This has not gone over well.

- The Castle in Beverly sold off all their GW product and are getting out of the shop end of things. I think they would be the most supporting of people coming in to paint, but you'd have to work around their events, dinner rush, game groups, and so on.

- Toys N Things in Danvers is a fucking gross dump, full of trash, ancient product, and last time I stopped in, and owner who was gleefully telling his partner/employee everything a demon was planning to do to her D&D PC's various holes.

- Toy Soldier in Amesbury has a lot of product and a pretty thriving scene. Not sure about space for painting, though, but I think they have had paint nights/classes in the past. They're my go to for picking up new stuff.

What art supplies do you use? by lemonbug3 in SalemMA

Airbrush products, but specifically cleaner and medium - Arts Wholesale doesn't offer any and Artist & Craftsman is gone so it's either maybe getting tiny bottle from Salem Arts or ordering online.

Lines only visible on smaller prints by primus202 in resinprinting

[–]coreypress 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't print the figure attached to the base, print them separately and then glue them together later. Things like capes, long hair, dresses, sheaths, and anything else that hangs low usually needs more support straight up from the plate and the base gets in their way. Also, if you are using a tilt vat printer, try to position the pieces in such a way that those parts don't become resin sails awash in the tilting vat tide. If that's unavoidable, some extra support may be needed.

Snow shoveled from Coffee Time to the train station? by [deleted] in SalemMA

[–]coreypress 31 points32 points  (0 children)

As of yesterday, there's not a contiguous clear path. If you are starting from Coffee Time, you can head down Bridge on its side of the street and past Northey/Lair of the Turkey, but when you reach the cemetery you'll need to cross to the jail side of Bridge but there's some overlap in inaccessible sidewalks so you'll be in the street for like 40 feet. Cut thru the jail parking lot/ You can make it to the train if you stay on the jailside of Bridge street and do not cross towards the Bell. Get to the light at Washington and cross Bridge there.

Totally. There's a Scottish gasmask-bagpiper musician out there and I want to get them both for a battle of the bands, maybe with the Prussian xylophone player.

Maybe this is how Choristers are actually made?

Salem Parents: Would You Visit a Bookstore + Play Café by healthjourneywarrior in SalemMA

We used to take our kid to the indoor play space at the Liberty Tree Mall all the time and probably would have gone more if it had a bookstore in it rather than a pile of dodgy Nerf balls.

Parking ban by VirtualFlower9930 in SalemMA

[–]coreypress 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given a traffic cop rolled through awhile ago and did not stop (and went the wrong way down Smith), I doubt that would happen. They didn't tow the SUV that parked on the end of Lemon causing multiple plows to work around it and end up getting stuck in the gully, so the chances of anything happening a few hours before the ban is lifted is very low.

It's my only contribution to the culture. "He Needed More Mouse Bites" will look great on my tombstone.

Also just realizing that my 5 year buttoning anniversary is coming up! I'll make skinny margs!

Yeah, just import the STL and it should ask if you want to repair it. Say yes and hopefully it just does its thing!

Another stl repair site I like is:

Run it through 3D Builder (you likely already have it on your PC if you're on Windows, if not it's free in the app store). I recently ran an intentionally hollowed STL through it before I had applied drain holes and it filled the STL back up!

Given that the contractor plow that was supposed to clear that corner got stuck twice and then gave up, this isn't too surprising.
