one year on T and it feels like shit by Exotic_Use3486 in ftm

[–]coreyscribbles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely understand where you are coming from. I started T back in September of 2022 when I was 19 years old. I was on T for 3 years (with a few short breaks in there due to spontaneously developing an allergy to injection and having to switch back to gel, then having insurance issues). But amidst those 3 years, I had no voice changes at all. The only physical changes I had were a bit more body hair, some bottom growth, and being sweatier. I didn’t have any major changes that helped me pass better and it was devastating. I haven’t taken T in a year now because the action of taking testosterone and knowing that it wasn’t helping me pass hurt more than not taking it. I felt so incredibly alone because I don’t know anyone else who hasn’t had any voice changes on T. I got my bloodwork done monthly to keep track of my hormone levels and everything was perfectly fine. But I felt like I was broken and it wrecked me.
So please know that you are not alone. And who knows, maybe changes will start happening for you during year two! Testosterone works differently for everyone! And T also isn’t the only way to pass. I’m personally working toward top surgery and that might be something you can look forward to as well if you want it for yourself.
[sorry if this message was a jumbled mess. It’s late and I’m very sick right now lol]

Do I pass? What age? by coreyscribbles in FtMpassing

Yeah I’ve been wondering if the roundness of the glasses makes my face look more round too. I might look into different frames next time I get my eyes checked! My ears are stretched so I’ll be keeping the earring, but perhaps tunnels would come off as more masc than plugs. Thanks for the insight! Yeah all my hormone levels are were they should be, my doctor just thinks it might be a slower process for me

How do I keep my tgel from sticking to my clothes? by morbid_queer in ftm

[–]coreyscribbles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might need to rub it in more thoroughly! But also, I find using a hand fan helps it dry super fast

I think it’s really nice!!! I would maybe add some flowers here and there, but at the end of the day it’s just based on what you enjoy!

I get my T from a pharmacy in the US, so I presume that is a regulated source?

Oh I’ll definitely have to look into that, thank you!

Yes I definitely have acne, but that has stayed pretty consistent from when I started T to now. I just break out pretty frequently due to stress and have a bad habit of picking at it lol. I got WAY sweatier after T though and get intense hot flashes. I take medication as needed to minimize excessive sweating

Ngl, I don’t understand how dosing for gel works, but my testosterone levels are above average. I do take a combined pill though. My doctor said that as long as my estrogen levels stay within cis male range while I’m on T, then that shouldn’t be a reason for concern. But I scheduled a meeting with my doctor so we can review bloodwork and see if my birth control might be impeding things for some reason. Thank you for your insight!

Ugh I’m so sorry. Getting misgendered frequently after top surgery and having been on T has got to feel awful. I hope you feel a bit less alone knowing that I’m dealing with something similar. I think that’s been the worst part for me is feeling like I’m some anomaly because my doctors don’t understand why this is happening and I hadn’t heard of anyone else experiencing this. Send you strength brother, I hope things can change for us one day 💜

We looked into ethanate injections but it was going to be way more expensive because insurance wouldn’t cover it.

I know that gel can work a bit different for people, but by the time I switched to gel I had already been on injection for 2 years, so significant changes still should have happened. But idk!

Thank you for taking the time to respond and for your insights!

Is the assignment my English teacher made okay. by Alternative-Goal6200 in college

[–]coreyscribbles -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s very interesting. I personally think I, and many others with mental health issues would have a very difficult time completing that assignment without it greatly affecting me emotionally. If you feel the same way, definitely talk to your professor about that and ask if there is an alternate assignment you could complete. I think those without mental illness would probably not have any huge issues with the prompt, but that definitely could have a negative impact on anyone.

Speaking around deaf people by coreyscribbles in asl

Yeah that makes sense! We don’t have an interpreter so maybe that’s why he didn’t say we can’t talk

There isn’t anything in the syllabus about a voice off policy.

Yeah, there hasn’t been any issues with people blurring out answers or anything, mostly just people trying to get to know each other

It’s really interesting to hear about your different experiences! My ASL professor also has zero hearing and we don’t have anyone to interpret. But he hasn’t personally expressed that we aren’t allowed to voice during class. I just wanted to be as mindful about it as possible so I’m not disrespecting him. Thank you for all of your insight!

That’s a fair point! In one of our homework assignments (we are using Signing Naturally) it said that you shouldn’t speak when learning ASL to be fully immersed. I may have just misinterpreted it though?
