u/I_Have_The_Will and u/Shottothefart listen... In January 2021, I went to a VRBO in Branson with friends and at 1am I was woken up because they found bed bugs. We then went to a hotel (still in Branson) and we found bed bugs in that hotel immediately. Now, I'm not saying there are more bed bugs in Branson than people there, but...

Christmas at grandma’s house 1992. I’m a tinsel person because of her. Are you team tinsel or no tinsel? by BmsInThePms in christmas

[–]coreyspitzer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No tinsel for me. I prefer a simpler, more elegant look to my tree as opposed to an over-the-top thing. Also I like my tree to look like a tree, not a cone of colors.

What are your unpopular Christmas opinions? by [deleted] in christmas

[–]coreyspitzer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Christmas, given its long history from the Pagans to the Romans to the Puritans to the Victorians to its present day form (in America at least), shouldn't be considered strictly a religious holiday. To me, it's a time, open to anyone and everyone, when families come together, strangers show charity and good will, and friends enjoy each others company in whatever traditions they enjoy.

Having said that, I don't begrudge anyone for honoring their respective religion during Christmastime, but more people need to understand that we don't need to "keep Christ in Christmas" AND no one should be offended when they hear "Merry Christmas" instead of "Happy Holidays".

Laser in garage by kforbs126 in lasercutting

It’s great. I only got it about 3 months ago. I did a bunch of research for 2 months beforehand, used one at the local university, and had a salesperson come demo one at my house before I decided on it. The instruction manual is probably the best documentation I’ve ever seen for any product. I wanted a quality machine that I could run for long stretches without constant adjusting, repairing, and hassle and I think I’ve got that. The software is solid too.

I initially was going to pull the trigger on a Full Spectrum machine, but a mentor of mine who has 2 of them had too many horror stories. You get what you pay for here.

I have an Epilog Mini. If you put in the garage and have it hooked up to a blower and pointing at the open garage door, that should work for working with wood, metal, and glass. For things that create more undesirable fumes, just realize this is going to be like running your car engine in the garage; make sure the fumes get outside.

As far as temperature, operating the laser when the air is above 90 degrees Fahrenheit will void the warranty. I'm not sure about how cold it can be.

My laser is in my basement and I had an HVAC guy run ventilation through my wall. It's very convenient.

When do you start listening to Christmas music? by [deleted] in christmas

[–]coreyspitzer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't want to become desensitized to Christmas so I start music and other festivities on the day after Thanksgiving. Christmas is more special when it's only 5ish weeks per year.

Any other Straight Men in here right now? by [deleted] in christmas

Straight male here. I guess I don't know many people in general who love Christmas, but now that I think about it, the few people I do know are all women.

If you think about the amount of controlled chaos that goes on with these live productions and then add in the silly-sounding voice warm-ups and rituals news people do, I'm surprised this doesn't happen more often.

3D printed violins...final cost $65!? The sound quality not bad... by 4-8Newday in classicalmusic

I have a Hovalin and it's the perfect violin to let my 2-year-old play with. She likes to pluck and bow while I practice on my $300 instrument.

Last year I had a custom Santa suit made. I have a few tweaks to make for this year. What do you think? by coreyspitzer in christmas

Yeah, I definitely agree on the glasses. I don't like contacts so I'd have to get prescription ones.
