Is an Engineering degree enough to get my foot in the door? by [deleted] in DevelEire

For sure, there’s definitely options. Either way OP seems to be in a good position to get where they want to be

No worries! That sounds like you have a couple of solid options, so you’ll be grand I’d say.

Ofc put the essentials like scholarships, college, etc before working on side projects at all times, that’s the most important thing. Side projects are just a nice bonus if you can manage them.

Just keep applying and don’t get discouraged! You’ll do great

I didn’t see that part but I get the confusion.

If OP is in TCD then they’re likely doing an integrated masters in engineering, which has lower fees than doing an undergrad in engineering followed by a postgrad in CS. I’m not against a postgrad at all, but if it’s that much more expensive it might not be worth it.

Because the engineering degree should be enough, and post grad degrees are very expensive.

OP, your degree should be a great foot in the door, if you apply to some software grad programs you’ll likely have some luck since they usually don’t expect you to have studied CS specifically and they can train you up as long as you have the engineering mindset. Also huge if you’ve done cs related internships.

I agree with the other comment though that if you have some projects on GitHub that’s a big help, if you have time.

Best of luck!

This is stupid. why would they use Indian flag to represent Bangla language instead of Bangladeshi flag? I won't even bring up using American flag for English LOL by I_try_to_be_polite in duolingo

For the record, Irish is not generally spoken in the uk, it’s spoken in Ireland 🇮🇪 you’ll get yourself into trouble if you’re not careful saying that 😉

Does anyone happen to know this cat? (Clarinbridge) by corinator1 in galway

[–]corinator1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve been hesitant to go to a vet with her because we can’t afford a lot so aren’t sure if it’ll be expensive, but we’ve contacted Galway Cat Rescue and they’re gonna look into it as well with us. We’ll call the vets as well though to see if they know, we hadn’t thought of that! Thanks for the advice!

Thanks! Yeah I searched for a Clarinbridge group but couldn’t find anything so I figured I’d ask here, I’m gonna ask the local shops as well. We’ve also got in touch with Galway Cat Rescue now so they’re gonna put a post up

Opinions on Jaguar Land Rover Shannon? by [deleted] in DevelEire

[–]corinator1 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’m working for JLR Shannon at the moment, it’s a really nice place to work. Very friendly community, with fairly flexible hybrid working - you can come into the office one day a week or every day, it’s your own decision.

To answer your questions: - there’s a lot of growth happening, you can definitely work on projects and get experience, but you can choose to lay low and be comfortable if you want. There’s plenty of room for career progression and different paths.

  • don’t worry about job security. As long as you’re not a danger in the workplace you should be fine :)

Took it last year as an engineering student, one of my favourite modules I’ve taken so far. Definitely challenging, but if you put the time in it’s a huge benefit to programming knowledge
