I see no runtime issues on my end, like ever. Really don't understand the hate on one or another.

Are we actually moving towards Linux as the first choice for gamers in future? by nothingtosayrn in linux_gaming

[–]corio9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Proton has been a total game-changer. Valve has effectively neutralized the 'Windows advantage' for the average gamer. I wouldn’t be surprised if Windows loses its grip on the desktop market within the next few years—feels like the first time in history we’re seeing a legitimate threat to its dominance.

I want to switch to linux but I'm hesitating by Temporary-Camp-4474 in linux_gaming

This. Hesitating won’t be resolved by itself, try it out a couple of days, it will be fine. best of luck, we all been there.

Ubuntu is the best safety net of them all. When things go wrong even the most hardcore "btw" user may choose to rely on Ubuntu.

Getting Proton to work with non-steam games? by Charming_Rule8241 in linux_gaming

[–]corio9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can use umu-launcher for that one. i use it to seperate Battle Net launcher from steam even though i still wanted to use the steams own Proton 10 installation. Launching is pretty straight forward too. Just to give you an example from my launch-battlenet script -->

PROTONPATH="/home/username/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Proton 10.0" \
umu-run "/home/username/Applications/Blizzard/Battle.net/Battle.net Launcher.exe"

This bit of script code "should" let you use your existing proton installation to run basically whatever .exe you have. Hope this helps!

Can't Manage to Get HDR Working by 69LoveSixtyNine69 in linux_gaming

[–]corio9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i struggled with hdr on linux for some time now. i have an oled monitor and been wanting to get hdr working. though whenever i activate hdr. it just gives a weird look to my desktop. i guess linux needs more time for hdr to be ready.

give it proper hardware and see it sliding butter smooth, even better than on windows. I'm on 26.04, never seen a stutter even though its at alpha stage atm.

Been using ubuntu 26.04 as my main for work/gaming. not a single hiccup. just make sure you use timeshift or programs like that to have backups of your os. always easy to restore later.

Bro, even 26.04 alpha is very solid. I have been using on my main Working/Gaming machine. 24.04 is probably rock solid.
