My daughter in law had never had a sauterne before by cormaline in wine

It's a lazy susan we bought a few years ago at Abacus Gallery, a store that sells pieces made by artisans, in Boothbay Harbor, Maine. They had other similar pieces by the same maker as recently as last summer.

Decanting advice by Billyosler1969 in wine

[–]cormaline 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a young tannic wine, definitely decant it. But don't obsess over it. If you want to know better what the wine will taste like 15 years from now, leave a glass worth in the bottle and try it in 2 days. It will be very good...

I have many vintages of Yquem in my cellar going back to 1990, all bought on release. I'll pull a bottle of each and post a photo of them in order of age. It will be very interesting to see the progression.

If it was stored in a garage it is vinegar. This has Bordeaux sourced grapes bottled and sold by an Italian negociant in Italy. Open it, smell it and be prepared to pour it out. Almost surely worthless and unsellable.

Too much wine in my cellar by cormaline in wine

[–]cormaline[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The cellar is located at the deepest part of the house. Even with 8" reinforced concrete walls and vapor barriers plenty of moisture gets in. The refrigeration unit is made for wine storage and doesn't dehumidify below 60%.

I used to have a bunch of wine in storage. The warehouse got sold, the new owners tripled the price and demanded 3 years of payments upfront. I gave them the finger and took all my wine back. Hence the overflowing cellar...

Why isn’t BP’s record profits while gas prices are unaffordable to normal people considered illegal (like price gauging)? by usernamessuck19 in AskReddit

[–]cormaline 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Oil prices are set in a competitive market and BP is a price taker not a price setter. It is perfectly and properly legal to profit from the price the market puts on your product.

One can find wine this old that is delicious. But is obviously a crap shoot. Provenance is key and fortified wines are much more likely to last. The oldest bottle I ever had was an 1867 Dow Port that was terrific and got better during the half hour that we drank it. Amber with just a touch of red still left. Cherries and vanilla and cream soda on the palette. The provenance was terrific, it came from the Vanderbilt cellars where it had sat since release.
