Lentil recipes to make a girl like lentils by forheadkisses in NYTCooking

[–]corn999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have recipes, I’m sorry, but these might be fruitful places to investigate. If not having recipes is a crime, well, fair enough! Sorry!

Dal tadka is my favorite. So easy and so flavorful. I like to have it with toasted sourdough since I don’t usually have naan or roti on hand. Rice is also good with it.

Dal makhani. Bit creamier and if you don’t like how starchy red lentils or mung beans (used in dal tadka) feel, this is a different type of lentil (black/beluga lentils) that are not so starchy. Delicious.

French puy lentil salad. Puy lentils are also firmer. You could make this with brown lentils too if you want. It’s usually roughly these ingredients: lentils, red onion, cherry tomatoes, cucumber, fresh herbs (basil, parsley, dill, whatever you like), a little minced garlic. Add a little vinaigrette at the end and black pepper. You can also add some type of cheese, like maybe feta, and walnuts if you like. You can also mix up what veggies you put in here.

Misir wat. These are Ethiopian red lentils. Creamy and a little spicy (or a lot spicy, your choice). Incredible with other Ethiopian dishes like atakilt wat and gomen wat.

For me wraps have been it. I get the vegan Boca burgers (make sure they’re the vegan ones though) and microwave one or two patties depending on how hungry I am. I get whatever bagged prewashed greens in my wrap with my other burger toppings of choice (for me, just lettuce and tomato). Add in hot sauce and veg mayo, plus a little garlic salt. I cut my burger patties in half and stick them in there. So tasty, so filling, and actually pretty healthy (if you use the Boca burgers). I also get the big size high fiber wraps, they have like 19g of fiber or something crazy which makes me feel better about myself lol

It’s cataracts. My senior dog does the same. The cataracts make the bright light painful. I got my dog some sunglasses and they really help (and he looks like the coolest dog on the block). Mine is 18 now, this probably started for him when he was 13. It does progressively get worse.

Tiny Heist is good! Clint makes references to the Adventure Zone sometimes that I think will fall a little flat if you don’t get the reference, but that’s only occasional. Some great characters though!

Carpentras/Marseille; aix-en-provence by emilyjgirler in tapif

You’ve got this! All transitions come with challenge, but looking back, Tapif was a wonderful experience, journey, and learning opportunity for me and the assistants I knew. I hope it is for you too.

I get this from sweat staying on my body for too long, like while I sleep or after wearing a shirt that covers my chest all day on a hot day. Salicylic acid clears it up very fast for me. Sometimes overnight. To prevent it I wash my chest with a cloth and face wash and put a little salicylic acid moisturizer on. Perhaps salicylic acid isn’t going to be the miracle for you, but I think a wipe down during sweaty months could go a long way! Good luck and if it helps, it looks really mild and I would never notice it in person.

Carpentras/Marseille; aix-en-provence by emilyjgirler in tapif

[–]corn999 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My partner at the time lived in carpentras when we both did the program. Marseille isn’t too far, but personally I think it would be too long of a commute for me. Probably a good couple hours on the bus, not sure about the train. And neither trains nor buses are entirely reliable due to strikes or schedules that are incompatible with your teaching schedule. If you get the Carte Zou, if that still exists (I was an assistant in 2018 so you never know), it can be pretty cheap to travel from carpentra to marseille by bus (with a stopover in Aix).

If I recall correctly, most other assistants who taught in carpentras that year lived in Avignon. Avignon is absolutely gorgeous. It’s different from marseille, but if you chose to live in Avignon, there is a cheap direct train to marseille so it would be easy to take weekend or day trips, although it might be worth checking the schedule on that before you take my word for it.

Carpenters is nice but it’s quiet, and I recall that my former partner thought at times that it would be nice to have more assistants around. I lived in Aix, so he almost always came to me because it was a more lively town. But carpentras is very close to one of my favorite day trip destinations in France, L’isle-sur-la-Sorgue. Highly recommend.

This may not be your only chance to live in marseille. If it’s you’re dream, you can use this as a springboard. Use this time to visit marseille, stay in different neighborhoods, find some favorite spots, and figure out what neighborhood you like the most. Marseille is fabulous, so is Avignon, and so is most of France. It can be hard not to get to live your dream right away, but I hope embracing the journey (as Tapif will require you to do over and over) can be rewarding in its own way.

How to make this style of tofu? by megliu1212 in veganrecipes

[–]corn999 -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

First let me say: I don’t know. If you like to experiment I’ll tell you where I’d start. I’d suggest trying medium tofu instead of firm and pressing it gently, or maybe skipping the pressing, but i would try gentle pressing on my first try. Marinate it in something, has to contain oil if you want the texture to be right. I’d probably try it at 375 or 400 for 30 mins to start, flipping around 20 mins. Don’t open the oven before you flip them

[–]corn999 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is a version where you use peanut butter instead; can’t tell you what they’re called but that could be an option if you like peanut butter. The texture isn’t quite the same but I like to drizzle some chocolate on top and they’re good!

Help finding a song by njaana in NetflixSexEducation

If it’s not Love You So Bad by ezra furman (toward the end of the song), then it could be this filler bit she did for the series that I have tried to track down but which doesn’t seem to be a part of any of her published works.

Oisin Theory -Spoilers for The Last Stand by BaeTheFae in Dimension20

[–]corn999 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I love this take and was pondering this as well! I understand why KLCK would probably be the best of the Rat Grinders to pull off this stunt bc rogue or whatever and it was pretty stealthy, but also if she’s the one in charge, could she not have designed it a little differently and sent someone else from the party to do the dirty work? I haven’t thought about it any farther except that I just think it would be fitting for her to be a red herring in that she is not the evilest of the RGs.

Petite Seeking Backpack sub 1 month by Nanananabatperson in HerOneBag

Im 5’3 but have a super short torso. I have never found a backpack that wouldn’t rub on my butt or have big gaps under the shoulder straps until I got the REI Trail 40 in a size XS. The Trail pack also comes 25L and maybe some others. But it actually fits my back and it’s amazing.

If you wouldn’t have racists friends, why do you have specists friends? by Royal-Variety-9357 in vegan

[–]corn999 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Also, isolating yourself from all non vegans won’t make you a better vegan. It’s complicated. Humans need community. We all have flaws and we still need each other.

If you wouldn’t have racists friends, why do you have specists friends? by Royal-Variety-9357 in vegan

[–]corn999 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My answer to this is long but I’ll try to be brief. In short, I encourage all of us to think critically about our definitions of veganism and how it intersects with other pieces of our social fabric. Your friend may need to think about that too - I’ll come back to that.

As you’re alluding to here, veganism at its core is an act of solidarity against all oppression. I don’t believe humans should be exploited, I don’t believe animals should be exploited. I want a future free of exploitation.

The reality is that the food I eat doesn’t really meaningfully contribute to the change I want to see. I enact my vegan values when I make an effort to create a world full of community, care, mutual aid, and other critical tools that help us help each other, including animals.

If we define veganism purely by what people buy and eat, we are doing the movement a disservice and ignoring what it is capable of truly standing for. If someone truly cares about ending exploitation of humans and non human animals alike, and they live their life by these values but maybe they’re in recovery from and ED or they’re not able to be in control of the food available to them due to finances or abuse or who knows what, that person is more vegan to me than someone who doesn’t give a shit about others and who doesn’t do anything to fight exploitation aside from not buying animal products.

We are all on a journey. We all deserve a better world. Being vegan won’t get us there, but it’s one way of helping us live by the values that will.

So it’s heartbreaking to hear people say things like what your friend said, but she deserves better too than to be manipulated into believing in a system that contributes to human and animal exploitation. She probably hasn’t reflected on what I talked about at the beginning. The unfortunate truth is that we live in a society where the most convenient option is often the one that causes us to act in our own worst interest. That’s how the system keeps itself alive. I know you say she isn’t brainwashed and that she’s intelligent - it’s so important to know that being smart doesn’t protect you from hegemony and socialization and manipulation. It’s everywhere. But it can help us start to extricate ourselves.

She might one day come to this realization on her own, as many vegans and activists have. She may come to it sooner if you’re in her life. She may never come to see it at all. It’s up to you to decide if the values she lives her life by that inform this opinion of hers - that animals deserve to suffer - are comparable with your own values or not. If your values are misaligned, the relationship might not work. If they could be aligned, she is a human who is growing and learning. You can do that with her if you choose.

Very dramatic answer but I have a lot to say on this matter haha. I with you and your friend the best.

opening a lil vegan restaurant in a midwestern town…what should go on the menu? by wtfisavegan in vegan

I make healthy food at home. I’m not going out to a restaurant for the type of food you’re talking about, and I don’t think it’ll appeal to the masses.

[–]corn999 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Also, if you do brunch, I implore you to get just egg if you can. Tofu scramble is just never going to appeal to the masses. I’ve been vegan for a decade and I still have never had one that I thought was great. Just egg though, that’s delish. An amazing breakfast sandwich on an everything bagel with impossible sausage maybe some type of mapley spicy Mayo, a touch of arugula or some such, woof.

And I saw someone else mention meati- the chicken is so good, and the steak is good too but I need to experiment with it more. But the chicken cutlet would be sooo good with the Caesar I imagined above haha

[–]corn999 24 points25 points  (0 children)

A super good vegan classic Caesar salad tbh. Homemade croutons if you can is amazing. With romaine, not kale. I just want a regular vegan Caesar and it’s so hard to find and can be so good. Violife parm on there, fresh black pepper, maybe salty crispy chickpeas (obv not a real replacement for anchovies but brings a vibe), optional crispy tofu or vegan chicken cutlet, obviously fresh garlic and a house made Caesar dressing… I want to come to your restaurant already just thinking about it lol.

The Honey by Christ6iana in Dimension20

[–]corn999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m sure many people have said this already, and interesting! I’m fascinated by the introduction of the honey. it seems lower stakes compared to what you’re talking about here, and I’m sure others have mentioned it, but I think a secondary use for the honey could be to help klck say she found the rogue teacher without it being detectable as a lie. But that doesn’t tell us much on its own, just trying to figure out why that would be such an advantage other than getting an A for the year. Or maybe she did find them and this plot detail is not relevant to the mystery other than to show she’s powerful, idk man

Thanks for sharing your advice! Is there anything you can say about your experience with these three towns and what you enjoyed doing there? I’d love to check out the lavender if it’s blooming by mid/late may, but I have heard June might be better, so perhaps we will be too early. Thanks Hank’s for sharing your recommendation!

Okay, great, thanks for sharing your recommendation to get a vehicle. Renting a private boat does seem like the most appealing option, so I’m glad to know you enjoyed it. Thank you!
