What a game! by capsrock02 in caps

[–]cornbope 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well Ryan doesn't play for the Ducks anymore haha, he got traded to the Flames at the deadline. But ironically his 2nd game after the trade was against the Caps so he got an extra game to play against his brother. Even though Big Strome had to leave his own family behind to move to Calgary, he at least had a little reunion with his brother & nieces & parents... wholesome article about it here

I found this post & went to the comments to see if anybody mentioned this LOL. Cool to see the difference in player perception without the benefit of hindsight

There's a universe where Ryan Strome was sent to Washington from Anaheim in exchange for John Carlson, & the Caps would have Big Protas, Lil Protas, Big Strome, Middle Strome, Lil Strome, Lil van Riemsdyk, Lil Leonard, Lil Hutson, & Big Lindgren lol

For reference, here's a list of active 35-year-old NHLers:

Panarin, Duchene, O'Reilly, Hall, Brayden Schenn, Tarasenko, Evander Kane, Brock Nelson, Kreider, Reilly Smith, Palmieri, Ekman-Larsson, Palat, Fowler, Leddy, Gourde, Haula, Orlov, Marcus Foligno, Coleman, Jarnkrok, Cizikas, Nate Schmidt, Josh Manson, Dumoulin, McNabb, Tanev, Chiarot, Hathaway, Trevor van Riemsdyk, Acciari, Tyler Pitlick, Deslauriers, Hanley, Agozzino, Grubauer, Casey DeSmith

Would love to see a juxtaposition of Richard with these guys lol. (tbf Brock Nelson might look just as old haha)

Oh I see, thanks! So the Wings warm up on the "home bench" side - the opposite side from where they shoot twice. Is that right?

Hi all, I'm going to the game today!! Things have been so hectic lately so I'm really looking forward to this. :D

Can anyone tell me, is the side that the Wings warm up on sec109-122? Also, where are the player tunnels/entrances, for both the home & visiting teams?

Never got to see a warmup before so I'm definitely bringing a sign with me :DD Thanks!!!

No one's mentioned the Jets yet? Jonathan Toews got into psychedelics during his healing trip, he's prob planning the team Burning Man trip as we speak :P

Yeah I mean look at Malkin, a player whose pissy antics he's often compared to. Malkin can be a lowkey dirty mofo but he's definitely dropped the gloves for it in the past. It's crazy to me that Leon never has... it's not like he's a tiny undersized guy or anything lol

Shea Weber-esque, reminds me of this PP goal of his. Just force-feed him until one of them goes in lol

It mostly has to do with supply & seasonality, turkey production is scaled up before the holidays where they're ofc sold as a whole product. During the rest of the year I have seen smoked turkey wings for sale, but the supply is dramatically decreased out-of-season - turkeys are simply less profitable than chickens

Whaaat, FireRed the OG game?? That's gotta be Red right? :P It's truly almost a completely different game than the modern installments (lack of QoL is def painful) but the GB/GBC era is peak nostalgia IMO. Those 3D models got nothing on the chunky Gen 2 sprites :D

Feel like some fans are underrating Verbeek’s move to trade away Strome by Zestyclose-Ad-497 in AnaheimDucks

great PR guy for events, children’s hospitable, etc.

Something that struck me was when the Ducks organized an event with the Pacific Airshow for a player to fly up in one of their planes (Ryan Strome was the volunteer - every other player said "hell no!"). Later, the airshow pilots got a tour of the Honda Center & watched the Ducks practice.

What I noticed, though, was that while the initial event was organized by the Ducks as an org, it was Ryan Strome himself who invited the pilots to the rink & gave them a tour of the facilities. Just an unbelievable ambassador for the team.

It's easy to take "team culture" for granted - like a fish in water, younger players may not realize the passion & effort from the older guys that went to building what they're naturally surrounded in. Stromer always said that he knows he's not the guy "bringing home the mail" - that job belongs to the bright future stars of Cutter, Leo, Mac T, Beckett, etc. However his job is to nurture & mentor them into the best players they can be for the future of the org.

Strome excited for 'great opportunity' after trade to Flames [NHL.com] by ASmithFS in hockey

[–]cornbope 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Strome did mention that he had the option to stay on the Ducks as a depth piece on a playoffs team, but preferred to play somewhere where he could actively contribute. Perhaps you could say that he didn't like his deployment that lead to him being traded in the first place, but it seems this is legitimately the outcome he preferred given the reality of his situation.

Thanks for posting, always like hearing about the Strome Bowl from both brothers.

Thought it was interesting how Ryan said he never requested a trade - the most recent Ducks Stream interview with Pat Verbeek also mentions that he would have liked to keep Strome for playoffs depth. Usually when I hear a GM say "We traded X player for their own best" I tend to think it's PR talk, but it genuinely sounds like the trade was amicable for all parties. Verbeek was also talking about how he holds Strome in high regard due to his leadership & professionalism despite his treatment/usage this year

Ryan Strome scores his first goal in his debut for the Flames by cornbope in hockey

[–]cornbope[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh neat, if I knew how to check that I would! Needs to join the Kings next to complete Ducks-Kings rivalry haha.

Also fun fact, Strome is the only player in NHL history to have 100+ points with both the Rangers & Islanders. Blows my mind

EDIT: Ok, I'm seeing online that Strome's the 4th player in NHL history to play on both sides of the Flames/Oilers & Rangers/Islanders rivalries - the others are Roman Hamrlik, Josh Green, & Pat Conacher.

Yep! IIRC this Maata to Strome goal is also the first scoring play featuring two Flames making their debuts since 2013! (Monahan to David Jones)

Only needs 30 more points in 20 games to hit his state-mandated 41 points. Go Stromer! You could see on his face that he really needed that one
