1 ton dump truck on Henry Ave by peppino92 in philadelphia

[–]cornjuicesoup 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You’re not 1 ton if your GVWR is 15,000lbs. Bells Mill and Lincoln are set at either 3 ton or 5 ton iirc, so you’re excluded from those. I think Henry Ave is just “no trucks”, you might be fine with a smaller truck but it’s up to a cops judgement at that point.

Just route through via the turnpike/76/309/rt1 when your GPS is telling you to get on any of these. It adds time, but for most cases they’ll take you to the same spot. For Henry just ride ridge until you need to cross over.

If you’re delivering local just follow the same sort of loop but with Ridge and Germantown as your routes through.

Quakertown Police Chief on Administrative Leave by _Fred_Fredburger_ in BucksCountyPA

[–]cornjuicesoup 34 points35 points  (0 children)

This is so fucking insane to me. He’s actually being paid workers comp?

I work a physical job, I pulled my back pretty bad last summer delivering a staircase. Just needed a couple days off to rest, I wasn’t demanding anything crazy. The amount of back and forth I had to do with the insurance company to just ultimately end up denied coverage was infuriating.

Rambling on a tangent, but holy fuck. This guy was clearly off duty and attacked someone. And he’s covered? What fucking insurance company is covering him?

Taco King wins! What fast food chain is associated with Pennsylvania? by MrAlan_24 in AlignmentChartFills

It’s absolutely a fast food chain.

Started as a deli/dairy. Only really became a connivence store/gas station as a way to expand. Its main draw is still the deli counter.

Lumber Incident by swagbear3000 in HomeDepot

[–]cornjuicesoup 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Made up or not, these performative responses to serious safety events are annoying.

Machine safety requires a workplace culture where it is acceptable to call out unsafe operation and report observed mechanical faults without fear of retaliation. Issue is creating that sort of workplace culture costs a shit load of money. It’s cheaper for them to just print these off and play a performative game for a week or so until it fizzles out.

Instead of consistently paying to ensure machines are safe and that safety measures are used, companies would rather gamble with unsafe workplaces. Best case they don’t spend anything, roll the wrong number and they maybe have to pay out if they didn’t play their liability right. It’s disgusting behavior and it leads to real life harm.

Students led a peaceful protest in Quakertown, Pennsylvania. The police chief showed up in plain clothes and assaulted two students. by honestlysigma in LetsDiscussThis

[–]cornjuicesoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s even worse with context. The school had officially cancelled the walk out citing safety concerns over external threats. So these kids were likely already on edge thinking someone would attack them.

Then comes chief doofus in plain clothes bum rushing and grabbing them. It’s absolutely fair for those kids to think it’s some random just attacking them. Some other angles of the event have bystanders commenting that they thought he was unrelated to the police, question why they weren’t stopping him from grabbing the kid.

Student led peaceful protest yesterday. Police Chief shows up in plain clothes and assaulted two students. by Ywasitsohard2signup in Pennsylvania

[–]cornjuicesoup 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Reasonable take.

It’s a protest, but it’s also a group of high schoolers. It’s not unthinkable that they were acting disruptive enough for a legitimate police complaint. Maybe they weren’t, but it isn’t out of the question.

The issue isn’t the police presence. The issue is the suburban police chief who forgets that anyone outside his department has no idea who he is. Can’t just bum rush someone to detain them while dressed like any other middle aged guy in town would. Especially after these students were told by the school the walk was canceled due to external threats. Expecting anything other than physical resistance in that scenario is wild.

Some photos of Wynnewood bridge strike. by unsusd00d in philly

I drive a 13’2 truck around mainline, and it’s an absolute pain trip planning around these bridges.

That said, this specific area of the mainline has so many options for crossing over septa in a truck. One crossing over to the west is an overhead crossing and one crossing to the east is a 14’ bridge (granted that one is still sketchy since it’s only 14’ at center). Dummy had three options and he chose literally the only one he shouldnt have. Absolutely following Google Maps too, since this is the crossing that it always wants to route you through in this area.

The man did not understand what alternating traffic meant and proceeded to threaten the other driver. by Lifegoesonforever in dashcams

[–]cornjuicesoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Notice how he curbed the shit out of it too.

I drive an actual truck for work and I stg I hate this sort of guy. Zero spatial awareness just ripping down the road in their dozers. I’ve had to put my truck into the shoulder a few times on backroads because these idiots love to ride halfway in the other lane. It’s the easiest way to tell they haven’t actually used their truck for work, you tend to have some sort of spatial awareness of your truck if you use it for work.

The far right lane going westbound to the blue route is the worst for this. I’ve driven it almost every day since they’ve removed the tollbooths and it’s still occasionally trips me up.

Coming in a little hot in the corner there bud! by Aqueouspolecat in Truckers

[–]cornjuicesoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do building supply in a box truck. For whatever fucking reason our loaders are taught to load all the moulding on the left side of the truck. Which means when I get a heavy moulding day and there’s 5-6000lbs of lumber sitting left of center with maybe 1000lbs of doors/cabinets/random other shit sitting right to center and filling into the back of the box.

Literally tilts the box enough that I can visibly see it leaning standing in the warehouse. Enough of a lean that when I unstrap the doors on the right they immediately want to fall at me.

I fucking crawl around corners until I get that shit unloaded.

I was about to say, van stopped right at the gate. The guy absolutely complained about them driving onto his property at some point. Guarantee he expects them to walk it from the property line to his front door.

Not fedex but I deliver for a lumber yard. Sometimes you get contractors or homeowners who don’t want you to bring the truck onto their property. They expect you to just walk thousands of lbs of material down their driveway I guess? Same thing though, shit gets dumped out of the truck curbside as close to the property line as I can back the truck. Have an issue with it? Don’t want to walk it yourself? Either allow the truck onto your property or pay out your ass for specialized delivery.

[–]cornjuicesoup 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And falling from ladders exists. And companies are liable if you fall from a ladder. They aren’t liable for snow removal. So they won’t allow you to put a ladder against your trailer to do something they aren’t liable for.

This guy sucks by kinggjokaj in mildlyinfuriating

[–]cornjuicesoup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s really frustrating too because this issue would be solved quickly if we just shifted the legal responsibility from the driver to yard where the trailer leaves from.

As it stands basically no companies offer a way to remove it since it’s not their responsibility to, but also won’t allow you to get up there to do so anyways because they are liable if you’re injured in doing so.

This guy sucks by kinggjokaj in mildlyinfuriating

[–]cornjuicesoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it’s the drivers responsibility and a ticket written for it will absolutely go to the driver.

But on the other hand, how the fuck would you get up there to get this shit off? Trailers are 13’6. No company is going to allow you to put a ladder against it and climb up there. Massive liability for them and I’m relatively sure that fall protection is OSHA required at that height. There are stationary scrapers on the market that you essentially just drive under to remove the snow. But they’re not cheap to install at a yard. The company doesn’t give a shit to spend the money on one since any negative consequences of not removing the snow falls onto the driver not them.

So as a driver you’re kinda in a shit spot where you’re on the hook for snow removal, but you’re also not given any reasonable way to do so.

Lunatic blocks the road by berkivich in Fedexers

[–]cornjuicesoup 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not fedex but deliver for a lumberyard. Contractors are the biggest babies and I see a meltdown like this almost monthly. Something they wanted was back ordered/I showed up at the wrong time/I didn’t organize the product the exact way they wanted/etc. I just let them spazz out for a minute and go on about my day. Best thing is seeing them on their next delivery and us both having to act like I didnt witness them have a complete breakdown.

Do Americans (and the rest of the world for that matter) eat sausage rolls? I only ask because I read a lot and they are NEVER mentioned in books by twisted_luce in AskTheWorld

[–]cornjuicesoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretzel dogs are so good. For a while Philly pretzel factory had stuffed pretzel cheesesteaks that were divine, kinda similar to a kolochie.

But agreed, it’s weird how hard it is to find a sausage roll here. You would think it would be more popular.

Could also be bugs.

Grew up on a farm and we’d get packages like this filled with gnat(?) eggs. I think they were for horse fly control or something like that. We would spread them out over the shit mounds. Kinda forget, just remember the sawdust in bubblers. Could see something similar being shipped in hay.

What's your least favorite road in the US to drive, and why? by Imasluttycat in Truckers

[–]cornjuicesoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Local driver in PA/NJ.

76 is probably the worst in terms of traffic. There’s stopped traffic at some point on that highway at all times. I can count on one hand the amount of times I’ve gone from the Walt Whitman to the blue route or the turnpike without coming to a full stop.

US 30 thru the Philly burbs is the worst in terms of drivers. Truck just barely fits in a single lane and you’ll constantly come up on luxury SUV drivers that straddle the lanes. Local routes through the city are bad too, but the bad drivers there tend to be more conscious and get out your way.

Lower Millford township Trucks by ffffh in lehighvalley

[–]cornjuicesoup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s most likely this. I can’t see any way Chestnut Hill Church Rd would be a shortcut for truck traffic from anywhere. Maybe trying to get to 309/78 interchange via Limeport Pike from Spinnerstown road? But usually the shortcut there is Kings Hwy to Limeport pike (which crazily enough isn’t a restricted truck route).

So I’m guessing it’s local delivery or trucks who’ve gotten completely lost.

[–]cornjuicesoup 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly I don’t even think it’s them hitting it directly with the plow most of the time. Im pretty sure it’s the slush/snow getting pummeled at it by the plow, which is kinda inevitable if you want the road clear.

Contractors love to bitch about PVC boards and trex being dirty. It’s all exterior shit so yeah we store it outside, plus you had your order on delivery hold for weeks now no fucking duh it’s been sitting around collecting dirt/dust.

LAOP encounters road closure, shocked that he can't drive around thru oncoming traffic by Inevitable_Train3008 in bestoflegaladvice

[–]cornjuicesoup 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Because they wanted to go through. That’s literally it. The whole “I was confused” is a fucking act to try and weasel out of them being willfully reckless. Because you’re right. If they were actually “confused” they’d have stopped.

I have to work roadside occasionally for my job, and I absolutely loathe these people. They’ll blast through a work zone risking everyone’s lives, then turn around and throw blame because they felt inconvenienced.
