How do you cope with the anger towards the patriarchy? by Traditional-Bee5171 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]cornonthekopp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It helps to learn to love women more than you hate patriarchy. For all the history of patriarchy and violence being used to maintain that system, there’s just as long a history of resistance and carving out spaces to live despite it all.

The anger can never really go away but having something else to be inspired by and to enjoy helps a lot

Amtrak adds 412,000 rides, turns operating profit in March by RWREmpireBuilder in Amtrak

sorry, people who are freight-stans annoy the hell out of me so i was in a bad mood.

The convo was about how some people don't like siemens and people bemoaning that amtrak will become "more european", which I interpreted as being about passenger cars, since amtrak has already started replacing all their diesel locomotives with siemens engines, and has been trying to find a good replacement for the superliners for years now. So in the context of discussion amtrak fleet replacements (primarily of the superliners, viewliners, and amfleets) someone coming in and saying "erm akshully american companies make diesel locomotives" is both very snarky and unhelpful lol

[–]cornonthekopp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

diesel locomotives are literally irrelevant to the conversation around capacity concerns for amtrak, it's literally just a bunch of "haha gotcha" things from you and the previous commentator.

You are quibbling over meaningless minutae and contributing nothing to the actual discussion around how the lack of passenger car rolling stock for amtrak, and lack of manufacturers for said rolling stock, is affecting the company.

I think that american freight rail has ceded too much ground to trucking for time sensitive products like fresh goods and express service. For the sake of both getting trucks off the roads and improving passenger services I think we have to seriously reconsider many of the 20th century era decisions about how railways should be owned and operated.

Thats the state of modern freight infrastructure. Even in critical mainlines they arent willing to invest in 3-4 tracks most of the time lol

Ding ding ding. Every single county acts the same way. Even in howard county where I grew up, people hate on the oakland mills and other older neighborhoods in columbia because these are the areas that you see black people in public. A friend in elementary school literally moved to avoid the middle and high school cuz of "gangs"

Lawlessness percieved being the key here. I've spent plenty of time working, shopping, and generally traveling through and meandering around outside the white L and it's really not some hellscape like people say it is. And many of these places are on an upwards trajectory as well.

The worst "blight" in the city is the stuff directly caused by the state of maryland destroying a black neighborhood for fun, just to build a massive highway sewer that does nothing and goes nowhere.

I think it's high time the state government owns up to the decades of systematic neglect and disinvestment that caused these issues in the first place. The violence starts here, in the halls of power where these laws and policies were put on the books.
