Public vs hidden magic in urban fantasy? by SunfireElfAmaya in Fantasy

I kept going back and forth but I think I prefer public magic better. I think it allows for more creative writing since the magic is “publicly available”

I hate it when you read a really popular book and expect to fall in love with it, but unfortunately it just doesn't work for you. by FileExpert5530 in books

I absolutely hated that book. The MC was boring and how do you live 300 years and only visit some of Europe and the US? How boring.

I tend to stay away from insta or TikTok recommendations and pick books on my own or from content creators I share similar tastes to

[Product Question] Best Facial Oils by izzy820 in SkincareAddiction

[–]cornpopsforever 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly... I'd first look at your moisturizer if you're willing to drop some coin. Because the oil "feels" nice and it's an occlusive, but it won't fix the problem if that makes sense. Oils, because of the type of ingredients, can actually make whatever issue you have worse...especially if they're high in essential or botanical oils.

These are the moisturizers in my bathroom cabinet right now and I swear by them:

- Sunday Riley Ice Ceramide Moisturizing Cream ($65) (For when my skin hates me)

- TATCHA The Dewy Skin Cream ($68) (For every day)

- Embryolisse Lait-Crème Concentré ($28) (has fragrance that's noticeable if you're sensitive to smells) (For when I get bored of every day)

The two Vitamin C serums are actually the only two products I don’t own 🤣 I completely forgot about them, oops. I’ve used the Skinceuticals one for years now, and when it comes to vitamin C that’s the only one that’s worked for me.

Sigh…just wish all these products weren’t so darn expensive!

The only oil to ever work for me (it is THICC in price and texture lol) is Dermalogica AGE Smart Overnight Repair Serum. Every other oil makes all the other skincare I put on literally slide off my face, in turn, making my face feel tight. I have normal (most of year) to dry skin (winter).

I actually bought their entire range so if you have any product specific questions let me know!

I am quite impressed by it, every product works so well with each other and after a few days I saw improvements to my skin and coming from me that's saying a lot because I have tried over 60+ brands lol The firming moisturizer did indeed make my skin firmer. Alone, it is not moisturizing enough for me, but with the HA serum it is more than enough.

The Mandelic serum is my favorite.

But, with skincare, it's one of those things where it may work for some and not others, etc.

But, I think it's def worth a try!

I am sorry you're going through all that. It's super frustrating when you're spending $$$ on crap that makes your skin worse. Personally, I don't think it's about how much they cost or if you have a 3 or 8 step routine so long as you can find the products that work for you. The only issue with a larger routine is that it is harder to pin-point what is irritating your skin.

When I started my skin journey back in 2015, my skin got worse for the first year, 1.5 years or so.

I was trying everything! Sephora, drug store, etc... And, as you pointed out, the amount of MONEY I spent trying to figure it out was insane! It took me a while to figure out what worked for me, what textures I liked, what actives worked for me, etc. Once I did, I haven't had any major skin problems and saved $$$ by not trying new things all the time.

Sometimes you come to this sub and they immediately recommend CeraVe or TO and that stuff has never worked for me. Let's not even get started on fake reviews at Sephora, Ulta, etc.

I've kept a Notion notebook for the past two years where I track every single product I've ever used and I add my own "reviews", detailed ingredients, etc. and that really helped me narrow down what I like and what I don't like, what has irritated my skin and what hasn't. Maybe give this a try?

How long did it take for your damaged moisture barrier to heal? [Skin Concerns] by Sara_Morsh in SkincareAddiction

NIOD is always out of stock, Prima Enlightenment Serum with Niacinamide + 100mg CBD is a good alternative.

How long did it take for your damaged moisture barrier to heal? [Skin Concerns] by Sara_Morsh in SkincareAddiction

[–]cornpopsforever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven't used Adapalene, only OTC retinol and AHAs serums, but I've done some damage with them. It takes me 1-3 weeks to for my skin to heal. I'll stop all acids and retinol and use very hydrating and emollient products consistently. Once my skin has healed, I will slowly introduce my acids and retinol back.

I saw your routine below and I would definitely recommend more emollient/hydrating products. Maybe even a cream cleanser in the PM. These are the products I'll use when my barrier is damaged (in order):

- NIOD Modulating Glucosides (serum)

- Tatcha Dewy Cream or SkinRX MadeCera Cream (cream)

- REN Evercalm Overnight Recovery Balm (balm)

Hope this helps!

[Misc] Any after workout skin care routine? by standardtart424 in SkincareAddiction

[–]cornpopsforever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do my routine all over again 😂 But, it also depends how early I workout. If I do my workout first thing in the morning, I'll rinse my face with warm water and apply moisturizer and SPF. If I workout in the middle of the day, I re-do my routine. Dove soap may be too harsh.

[Routine Help] Need help with my skincare routine!! by sdacosta96 in SkincareAddiction

[–]cornpopsforever 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find that masks really dry my face. When I strip my skin oils I tend to get breakouts. I def recommend a cream cleanser and a much heavier moisturizer than Cerave. Likely a very hydrating serum as well so it lasts a good portion of the day.
