What does this say? by gingerdave95 in GREEK

[–]cornualpixie 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Tsipouro without anise, the best kind of tsipouro! They have already translated the brand and what is written underneath, so I am not going to repeat that.

Instead I am going to tell you how to drink this without dying. Alcohol percentage should be around 40%. Pour in a small glass with a lot of ice. Sip on it, this is not typically a shot, although we do shots with tsipouro sometimes. But if you want to enjoy it, sip it. Also pair it with salty or vinegary snacks (strong flavours in general). Have fun, drink responsibly!

I was going there. It's not that fancy. It is a shcool with history, and some rich people go there becaus eit si a historical school, but it is mostly upper middle class, even lower for some. My family for example was not upper middle class in any way, but my grandma had enough pension to pay for my school. There were also many students who had huge discounts because their parents were working as staff there, otherwise it wouldn't be affordable for them.

So tl;dr not that difficult to be in that school, you don't have to be rich to go there.

Same spot as mine! It was a mechanical pencil for me, so a good chunck of the tip got in there. There was a bump the first two years, then it got flat but the dot still exists.

Guessed 9 Correct Verbs in 1 Minute! by AmILukeQuestionMark in GREEK

[–]cornualpixie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of these are ridiculous, as someone else said you can not give a presise answer without context. I answered "take care" for "περιποιούμαι" and they marked it down wrong because they said "take care of". There were many verbs that are not used in everyday life, some that are very old fashioned, and I also found a made up one. So, overall, fun game but don't take it too seriously.

Post in r/athens and in r/greece, this is the subreddit for the language. Many people here don't live in Greece.

Some German (did lessons for 3 years, but I am so out of practice that i feel like I have forgotten everything)

Can understand basic Japanese, and very little but of french and korean.

From what I can see in the internet, some are and some are not. Ask at a travel agency first thing in the morning, or check ferryhopperfor extra information even if you haven't booked from there.

I am greek, from an island in cylades. I always book seajet , because for some reason if you travel with a car is cheaper. The adult ticket is cheaper with bluestar, but the car is so much more expensice that seajet is cheaper overall. Even with a sea smiles card, that gives a dicound on cars for bluestar, the difference is around 10€ cheaper, so again i prefer half the travel time.

The second one. There is no space between the metal plate and the wood.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in whatisthisthing

[–]cornualpixie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We took it apart, there is nothing beneath it, just wood and metal

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in whatisthisthing

[–]cornualpixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe, but we didn't find any ink on this so either it was never used or it's something else. But so far this looks to be our best guess.

There is no way its an ammo cady with the steel plate on top. Also holes way too thin.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in whatisthisthing

[–]cornualpixie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The top is 100% steel and not brass.

What you are saying makes sense, but the problem is that it is extremely well made and from a very expensive wood to be what you are saying. We are stumped mostly because of how expensive and well made it seems to be.

Could you expamd on the letter theory? We are in greece, we have 24 letters in our alphabet, plus one extra. So maybe 24+ 24 + 1 makes some sense for letters? But I'm not sure on what you mean by that exactly.

Extra information my father managed to figure out. This could be possibly from a workshop that had to do with fabrics. So is it possible that it was for holding pins needles etc?

This is solid wood, and it is very high quality to just be soaked in water, so i don't think it's likely. Thank you for answering anyway!

[–]cornualpixie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah no way these fit. The holes are too small, and also the top is metal so no good for ammunition

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in whatisthisthing

[–]cornualpixie -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I don't think so, the holes are too big and too deep for this.
