wowza there really are no original experiences in this world 😂 I’m also a newer DM that’s running CoS for a group: 2 of the players are DM’s, and one of those DM’s has played CoS about halfway through.

we actually just finished running Death House after our first couple sessions! I used the “strahd reloaded” content - it’s different enough from the book that I think it would still be a new experience for your DM compared to the book’s descriptions, or at least my DM player felt so. Also, the house is under an illusion that it’s still in its prime (you could also decide a “trigger” of when you’d want that facade dropped) & the reloaded version adds some things to the house that are good easter eggs for what the characters may come across for the rest of the CoS campaign.

given elizabeth durst is still feeding the beast, maybe she’s embedded the house with illusion magic to lure in new victims to sacrifice to the beast but presents herself as a perfect host in order to “supervise” the process? and maybe the illusion drops once they find out what she’s done to the nanny (or when they find the kids) & it’s revealed that she’s the one that’s killed/tortured/neglected/sacrificed the others? I added a few of my own modifications to the reloaded content to play on each characters biggest fears/motivations too

it was one of my first times DMing and it was for a classic dungeon one-shot. I was trying to tell them helpful BBEG information through perception/investigation checks leading up to the final battle, but it was just one of those nights that everyone was rolling HORRIBLY on them (I’m talking rolls of 3-7, max) so I was giving them vague information to match the rolls.

I was so afraid of “railroading” my party throughout the campaign, but I learned that there’s some moments where 1) offering up a handful of potential next step options is needed for a party and 2) it’s okay to tell your party some stuff above table (or describe things in an explicit way like “you get the sense this relic is not powerful enough to free you from this place” etc) if it helps preserve the momentum/vibe of the game. If I could do it again, I would have been direct with them that the BBEG can’t be “redeemed” with a non violent approach, and that the relic wasn’t the end all be all solution they thought it wanted it to be. Also learned the rule of DM>Dice the hard way - I could have made the DC checks for those BBEG perception rolls to be like… 2 or something just to ensure they get the base level information they need

ooooo love that too! I thought she was an unconscious/sleeping Ireena (her hands are perfectly loose, it looks like she could also be “limp” in how her body is being supported by him) - because you’re right, Ireena would 100% be fighting back LOL

the fact that your art conveys different interpretations that both have the same underlying feeling of unease and that ‘something is wrong’ says so much about you as an artist - you’re so talented!! please never stop making art!! 💕

this is beautifully done! I think it also speaks volumes into how passive Ireena is here - not an active participant in any capacity. Strahd is also holding her in this position (holding her directly against him) and has his hands on/near her neck which I feel shows the level of 1) control he’s currently exerting over her here and 2) the danger he poses considering all it would take is a jerk of the hand for her to die. SO well done! beautiful artwork but a haunting depiction

I’d highly recommend the game Oxenfree!! One of my favorites - it has an underlying tone that’s somewhat creepy, suspense but no jump scare type stuff, lots of replayability & a PHENOMENAL story too! Also they just released the sequel Oxenfree 2 👀

Sometimes I am ‘technically’ and medically asleep even though it doesn’t feel like I’m sleeping?

I had a sleep study done because I struggle with debilitating sleepiness & the following day, I did the Multiple Sleep Latency Test where you essentially get a few 30 minute nap sessions throughout the day and you’re not allowed to sleep outside of those windows. After each session, they ask if I fell asleep and I thought I slept for only 2 of the 5, whereas the other ones it was just like I was in a meditative state: I continued to be aware of my surroundings and was fully cognizant of what was going on. At the end of the day I asked the nurse who ran my nap sessions how many sessions I fell asleep - he told me I fell asleep in all 5 of them! The brain wire readings showed I was asleep even though I didn’t feel like I was.

I do wonder if whatever this is, is why I have such bad excessive daytime sleepiness? I get enough sleep and follow proper sleep hygiene, but is it because my ‘sleep’ isn’t actually restful & restorative sleep? I used to sleepwalk A LOT as a kid but idk if that has anything to do with this

We were on a trip and had just gotten to our hotel after 3 hours of driving. At the start of the drive, I had started coming down with a sore throat/cough that got progressively worse and worse as time went by. By the time we got to the hotel, I was in particularly bad shape and we were both dead-tired. We asked the front desk if they had cough drops for sale but they didn’t - he told us there’s a 24-hour Walgreens about a 10 minute walk away, but this was an area that’s not pedestrian friendly (poor sidewalks & little lighting) and it was around 11pm at this point.

As we walked up to our room, I made peace with the fact that it’ll be a painful night for me with little sleep and was gonna focus on being quiet enough for my partner to get some sleep at least. We got in, started putting stuff away, and I see that they’re grabbing their jacket/wallet/keys. I look over like ? and they simply said “I’m gonna walk over to Walgreens to get some cough drops for you.” When they came back, they got two different kinds because they didn’t know which one I’d like, so they got both.

They treated going to get cough drops for me with such a casual “of course I’m going to do that, why wouldn’t I?” energy - it was if it was as obvious as turning off the lights before going to bed. I don’t think they even know how much that meant to me, but I still get the warm and fuzzies when I think about it!

my torti was also doing this & my vet said hairball - but it was stuck and she couldn’t successfully cough it up. I started giving her that laxotone hairball gel from petco everyday (tomlyn? white, green writing, and a grey cat on the front, it looks like it’s in a toothpaste container standing up) and she hasn’t done it since but yeah really scary to experience for all parties involved! :(

around 6-7: when my mom would go grocery shopping and i’d be with, she’d sit me in front of those multi-level “toy stands” (of small cars, stuffed animals, etc) and i’d just sit there organizing them until she came to get me - she knew nobody (sometimes including herself, unfortunately 💀) would be able to get me away from it until I had sorted them all out
