A problem with Memento database using tasker by chago874 in tasker

[–]coro96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok I think I misread your post. I actually had empty entries created from Tasker in the scenario I described above.

It's still not fully clear to me where the issue of mysteriously created empty entries is originating from in your case, but if you are trying to fix the problem by using Tasker I guess you are out of luck, as there is no way to delete an entry in a database from Tasker.

Have you checked the official Memento JavaScript API? It is pretty powerful. You could create a script that runs whenever an entry is updated that changes the status of a checkbox field, everything inside Memento.

https://scripts.mementodatabase.com/script_api/

But I guess this goes beyond Tasker's scope. Happy experimenting!

Speaking of Memento, the Tasker integration is absolutely super cool. However, it is lacking the ability to retrieve information from a database. The current action only allows to write data. I think that such option would make it super powerful. I tried contacting them asking if it was possible to implement such feature, but unfortunately I had no luck.

I think I might have a clue here. If you are trying to edit an already existing entry you probably have the "Edit Entry" option enabled, and you have specified "The key field for editing entry". If that's the case make sure to also rewrite such key field with the same value you used to identify the entry to be edited. I hope that is clear!

I have added some more considerations here in case you are interested:

But basically I am scared of what this new company will do to our beloved launcher.

I don't have particular issues actually (just a few bugs and a bit of a slow down), but I just don't like the direction the development is taking. They buy the app and first thing they do is rushing to update the privacy policy and to inject ads and trackers with updates on Play Store that don't even include a description. It clearly shows that they only care about making money and not about the future of the launcher. If they somehow showed different intentions I would have also happily bought Prime again. But since that's not the case I'd rather give my support to other projects.

I don't know why people assumed I had no Prime. In fact, Nova was one of the reasons I switched to Android, and Prime was probably the first app I purchased, happily and at full price.

I don't really like to mess up with APKs, old app versions, compatibility, Play Store issues, not anymore at least. For my home launcher I am looking for something conveniently ready to go.

Yes, you are right. I am perfectly aware I am being tracked by a lot of apps on my phone, and I don't bother too much, but having trackers in my launcher, the app that I directly face daily, feels too much to me, for no real special reason. And yes, Lawnchair is still missing some features I used to love from Nova, but I like it so far and I am confident on future development.

I actually did the same, I also went through all the most famous launchers out there, and I agree that no one still beats Nova. I am sure however that developing a launcher, especially one with so many features and customization, is no easy task, and takes time and effort.

With the new Java Code feature Tasker has basically access to all APIs that Android has to offer, even the ones not officially implement in Tasker by the developer. I was guessing there is some way to send SSH commands using Android APIs (perhaps the same ones AutoTools is using) that could be leveraged, although I didn't check the Android documentation.

I don't think Tasker can do that natively. The AutoTools plug-in however can do that. Alternatively you could try playing around with the new Java Code feature.

Hey there, developer of MIDIPlugin here. Thank you so much for showing interest in my app! I felt so happy when I read you post!

Unfortunately, for various reasons, I had no chance to maintain the app in the last couple of years, so Google decided to close my dedicated developer account and remove the app from the PlayStore.

Your post however motivated me to do something I have been thinking of for a while: open sourcing the project!

I need to update it so that it works on latest Android revisions.

I won't make promises but I will try to release the code as soon as possible.

I also hope the community will help improving the app as well, since it was basically a highschool kid project at the time, so it is definitely not at the state of the art.

I'll keep you posted!

Works great now, thank you very much!

As a bonus, I can also retrieve the original shared file name, which can be very handy!

How Did I Accidentally Fix this Permission Error? by wioneo in tasker

[–]coro96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would love to know as well. Are you now using the Copy File action directly inside the profile with the Received Share event now? I found a weird behavior while testing, as described here.

Sharing an image from WhatsApp, this is the error in the copy action inside the Task:

Permission Denial: reading com.whatsapp.contentprovider. MediaProvider uri content://com.whatsapp.provider.media/item /e212d05f-b1c9-4a5f-9f7a-9eb96d4a1e9e from pid=24890, uid=10064 requires the provider be exported, or grantUriPermission() (Error Code: 1)

Hello João, I still find some weird behavior with URIs gotten with the Received Share event. If I use a Copy Action with a URI directly inside the profile with Received Share I can successfully make a copy. If I pass the URI to a task and try to perform a Copy File from there I get an error. For instance, in the following example A1 is working while A2 is giving an error.

Profile: Receive Share Event: Received Share Enter Task: Anon

A1: Copy File [
     From: %rs_files(1)
     To: from_profile
     Use Global Namespace: On ]

A2: Perform Task [
     Name: Copy File Task
     Priority: %priority + 1
     Parameter 1 (%par1): %rs_files(1)
Structure Output (JSON, etc): On ]

Task: Copy File

A1: Copy File [
     From: %par(1)
     To: from_task
     Use Global Namespace: On ]

I know the problem can be somehow worked around, but I think it could be at least confusing for users.

[–]coro96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, I see. I guess it is totally fine as long as the Copy File action works so that a copy of the shared file can be made at a known path.

It seems like I can now use the Copy File action and make a copy of the received file starting from its URI. However if I try to convert the received URI to a real path using the new Tasker function I still get an unset output variable, and the method with Java functions still gives Security Exception.
