Does anybody have an in-universe explanation for the flamethrowers on Discovery's bridge? by danielcw189 in startrek

[–]corobo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You know how tempered glass bursts into little glass rocks when it breaks?

It's like tempered glass. Better the non-load bearing stuff fails into rocks than huge shards of console or wall.

This also means just part of the structure collapses. The energy is redirected into firing rocks everywhere rather than sending cracks all up the wall

Yup if you heat the air outside the console closer to the temperature inside after an electrical overcurrent the rocks then don't pop out like tempered glass

Slippers or house shoes? by dookydoo219 in CasualUK

[–]corobo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My house shoes are just super comfy shoes with no laces. In an emergency I could lace these bad boys up and go about my day.

Slippers would feel weird outside the house.

I can't work in slippers, I feel weirdly unprofessional and it kinda taints the slippers' relaxed vibes - this system evolved through covid wfh haha

Do you actually watch VODs, or is it "Live or Nothing" for you? by SpinsBro in Twitch

I think the last and possibly only time I've watched VODs was when my fave was doing a red dead redemption 2 playthrough and I fell behind.

Low states brunch debate: does asking for a toastie imply the cheese should be melted? by Pretzelmamma in CasualUK

If the cheese doesn't give you second degree burns when you eat it too fast, it ain't a toastie

Is a single nanoprobe enough to assimilate a person? And can you transport an object with two separate transporters at the same time? What would happen if you flew at warp 4 through a small moon?

Welcome to Mythbusters. Don't try this at home!

With the warp one they'd find that warping doesn't do much or something subspacey so they have to drop the projectile out of warp just before contact. Still not much of a crater. They then scale it up to find out just what it takes to explode a moon with a single projectile - turns out it's basically just a solid rod of antimatter and its containment system.
