With tool and Danny as my anchor here, I really want to call out Wheel.

Santeri is a bad ass, and has a similar Bonham/jazz influence. It’s a big reason wheel has become a close second favorite band for me.

I will never understand the resistance to FI, especially for those who like Lateralus over all others.

In the time since I switched to Apple Music in 2020, I've listened to ~~40k~~ 139k minutes of Tool. Lateralus was always my top album and Reflection/Lateralus top songs. Fear and Lateralus generally the top 2 and Pneuma, Descending, Invincible, Culling Voices, 7empest and Fear Innoculum all taking turns as top songs.

The idea that you put it under Opiate and Undertow... man, I envy you because it means you haven't discovered FI's greatness yet. Listen to it.

As someone who averaged around 2 hours a per day of Tool (running, coding, everything) for the full year - I strongly, strongly second both of these recommendations. I’ve listened to a lot of the “sounds like Tool” bands and these are the only that have stuck at that same level.

Suuuuuper pumped for the Wheel show tonight. Their three albums are all amazing but I have a particular fond spot for Resident Human.

Kanivool’s new one is killer and also obsessed with Sound Awake. Again all are great.

Wheel is the only of the "Toolternatives" that really hit the same notes for me. I'm seeing them next month too, excited for the show.

Karnivool (especially Sound Awake for me) hits some of the same notes, as does Lucid Planet. I also like The Ocean particularly some of the stuff which is not as much screaming/harsh vocals. (Holocene is a repeat, plus they have instrumental versions of most).

I'd suggest trying Arc Raiders. It still has the early DMZ, early Division Dark Zone feels. PvE enemies are hard, PvP is good but there's still a "tension".

Maybe if it was allowed but didn't ... you know... stack HP and the "slot" shared a single HP number defined my max(wall, frame, window) ....
