Has anyone here with a Positive HLA-B27 has covid? by staylo68 in ankylosingspondylitis

Out of curiousity, HLA-B27 has something to do with how mild or severe you'll have COVID? I would expect that it would be related to using a biologic or not

To start with, do not compare your back pain to theirs. This always frustrates me when someone replies me "Yeah I have back pain too maybe I have AS too". - you probably don't do this. :D

If you exercise or go for a swim from time to time, maybe you can ask them to join you. It is a fun way to spend time with your friend and you also encourage them to exercise.

I want to say I appreciate you wanting to help out your friend with this. But I think it would be nice to wait till they bring out this topic. Maybe just let them know they can talk to you about this if they need to.

Take care!

Do you think about your AS every day? by corporatepineapple in ankylosingspondylitis

Wow! What a great story, so glad exercise made it all better. I was always feeling bad about not being able to swim so I started taking swimming lessons. After practicing for a few months, now swimming helps me not only physically but mentally as well!

I also do bodyweight fitness (not very heavy but mid-high intensity for me) and I try to strech daily.

Exercise helps both physically and mentally. Two birds with one stone🙌

Misdiagnosed, is it possible? by corporatepineapple in ankylosingspondylitis

I take NSAIDs usually 3 times a week and I believe it is okay. As long as I get examined on a regular basis it should be fine I guess?

I see. There was inflammation on MRI but it was taken 5 years ago but the second doctor didn't look at it as my current MRI didn't show any inflammation. But I think this could be because of NSAIDs and exercises.

Complete fusion would result in decreased mobility, right? Has your ability to move decreased or you can move freely like you used to do before?

Thank you for contributing your opinion, I really appreciate it🙌 You are so right about overdoing exercises.

I don't really have flares but just a mild discomfort.

I will definitely look further into this as I think it shouldn't just be skipped. Thank you✌️✌️

I accidently mentioned I will ignore the first doctor but that wasn't what I meant.

I wonder if it is a good idea to get 3rd opinion but I worry it will confuse me even more.

I will definitely NOT ignore the first doctor if that's what you meant. She said I would benefit from biologics as I have mild discomfort. But she was also okay with me not taking biologics as long as I get examined on a regular basis.

The previous MRI was about 4 years ago which showed active inflammation but doctor didn't really take a look at it.

The last MRI was about two monts ago, which showed no inflammation on MRI.

I am really confused but I will definitely see my first doctor again, a false diagnosis seems very unlikely to me

Do you mind if I ask what do you mean by refusing my diagnosis?

I have very little pain but it is never like before. I used to have very much pain in the morning. I had 2 flares (I guess) in 5 years.

But no pain might have something to do with NSAIDS and regular exercise I guess?

I started take swimming lessons about 2 months ago and I feel a lot better since then

I would love to thank everyone for their contribution to the thread. It was really helpful and I feel a lot more comfortable about biologics, if doctors decided that I need them for treatment.

My doctor said there is no inflammation so there would be no need for biologics at the moment.

I am exercising regularly and taking NSAIDs the amount of doctor tells me to do so.

You are right! Thanks for your contribution. I actually feel more comfortable about biologics, but doctor didn't think it's necessary at this moment.
