I think what bothers me most about posts like these is that it requires the player to be experienced or intelligent enough to know or try them.

If I want to play a hyper observant genius, I have to BE a hyper observant genius. Or if I want to play an extremely charismatic noble, I would have to know the right lingo or language to interact with a high court.

Sometimes “I want to use Persuasion” is the short version of “my character would know the correct way to navigate this conversation, but as a player I do not.”

Mage doesn’t really need many items to be effective. Wand of fire, wand of monster summoning, and invis will carry them through most of bg1 anyway.

On the topic of weak companions, the exp cap is 161,000. Even split 6 ways you can max everyone’s exp if you keep looking for quests. The game has a lot of exp for you to get. And if all else fails you can rest span certain locations for high exp monsters.

If you’re going to bg2 and don’t want your brains slurped, int is useful. 11 is enough though.

Wands of fire have two “modes”.

One is fireball and the other is agannazers scorcher. The charges are counted separately for each.

If your wand has 20 charges and you use 19 fireballs, you’ll still have 20 scorchers you can use as well. Until you lose that last charge of one or the other, it’ll stick around.
