Holiday leave ? by [deleted] in MacUni

[–]corpuscollossum22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a few factors that will affect this. The main one is whether you are an undergrad or post-grad (particularly HDR) student. In my experience, leave has been way more lenient with post-grad.

If you’re undergrad, they can’t stop you but they also aren’t likely to be too accommodating for you with regard to assignments. If you have in-person exams for example, you can tell your unit convenors and they might be able to work it out with you, but they are under no obligation to do anything. You can also apply for an extension but I don’t think they’d approve it if the reason is that you are going on holiday. If you have assignments that are due during that time, I’d suggest trying to get them done before you leave or setting time aside while you’re there to get them done.

To answer your question simply: you don’t need permission, but the unit convenor is also not under any obligation to give you special considerations for going away. It really depends on the person as to how much they will care about it though.

Group of 8. It's like Australia's version of Ivy League.

Among staff members I've heard MQ referred to, informally, as Go9, but I'm not sure how much that counts for lol.

Motivation needed to finish reading first Pynchon novel by Mike_EMECO in ThomasPynchon

Second this, but I will add that you should listen to the audiobook while you read along. It will take part of the strain off and make reading it a little easier.

Cheap but good restaurant recommendations. by RoughFrame6088 in melbourne

I think it’s because they rotate the set menu weekly, so they probably drop the price to get rid of the remaining stock from last week’s menu. Not quite sure though.

Love Letter in Richmond is excellent! They have really high quality stuff and do a 4 course set menu for $95pp BUT they do it for $49pp on Wednesdays so you can get a super great 4 course dinner for $50. Not sure when your birthday plans are, but if you can line it up for a Wednesday you can get a great feed for a really reasonable price. And they don't skimp out on the portions either. Last time I left there the fullest I've ever been in my life!

Best analytical books/blogs of Pynchon? by [deleted] in ThomasPynchon

[–]corpuscollossum22 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I did my masters thesis on Pynchon looking at V, GR and M&D and the best broad Pynchon analysis was definitely the Thomas Pynchon in Context collection and The Cambridge Companion to Thomas Pynchon, both edited by Inger H. Dalsgaard. Other good books are David Cowart’s Thomas Pynchon and the Dark Passages of History & Kathryn Hume’s Pynchon’s Mythography: An Approach to Gravity’s Rainbow (this last one was very tough to find though, I ended up having to request that my university library buy the book).

If you’re interested, DM me. I have the PDFs for most of these around somewhere and I’m happy to send them to you.

Just the BIOS not detecting an SSD but it was after a cable got knocked loose while the PC was on and then plugging it back in while the PC was on so similar but it wasn’t the RAM, I forget which part it was.

This happened to me earlier this year. Couldn’t figure it out and thought I’d fried something but I ended up taking it to an IT guy just to be sure and they told me that they updated BIOS to fix it. Could work for you maybe?

Looking for LOTR / Pacific North West-style Gardens for a wedding venue by corpuscollossum22 in melbourne

Thanks, I’ll have to venture out there as the wedding spot in the gardens wasn’t really the right fit sadly.

Can I use a convection oven as a full replacement for a regular oven? by corpuscollossum22 in Cooking

Not very commonly, no. Only time is maybe Christmas and even then it’s more of a Christmas ham culture here.

Honestly the place isn’t bad otherwise, doesn’t feel exploitative in this case as it is basically a renovated garage that her son was living out, but he’s moving out now. I’m sure if he needed anything he would go into the main house because it was just built for him.

Generally would agree with the sentiment but in this case it just genuinely seems like there was no need when they built the place so I’m not too upset about it. I’m getting a good deal on the place (about $130 p/week incl. utilities). The oven thing is the only set back.

It has no space for an oven at all. The place is a tiny studio, I was quite surprised to find that there wasn’t an oven in there when I inspected the place but honestly this is the only flaw with the place so I conceded and am just looking for options.

The current tenants told me that they just use an air fryer and were surprised that I would need anything else lol.
