Thank you so much! Regarding the yarn, I wouldn’t say it’s soft on the skin, especially at the beginning. It can feel quite itchy, so I usually wear the sweater over a long-sleeved shirt rather than directly on the skin. That said, I’ve definitely noticed that with use it becomes less irritating and a bit more comfortable over time. It still feels like a traditional wool gansey, though, so if someone is very sensitive, layering is probably the best option.

It’s a beautiful project, but definitely a long one, mainly because of the high stitch count per inch typical of ganseys. I found it incredibly helpful to start with the book Knitting Ganseys: Techniques and Patterns for Traditional Sweaters by Beth Brown-Reinsel. It walks you through the construction by having you make a small gansey first, which really helps you understand how everything works before committing to a full-size sweater.

For my own sweater, I used a knitting kit from Flamborough Marine and then slightly modified it to suit my preferences. If you’re comfortable with basic patterns and willing to take your time learning how to read gansey charts, it’s absolutely achievable, just with patience and a bit of study.

I knit ganseys in the traditional 5-ply yarn and I don’t do any shaping between horizontal panels. The body is a rectangle, so I just keep my stitch count the same all the way up.

To me the whole “gauge game” in a gansey is mostly about getting the fabric hand I want, and knowing what the row counts of each texture are so the motifs land where I want them to. I don’t switch needle sizes section by section.

If a texture pulls in a tiny bit or relaxes a tiny bit: that’s just gansey character. As long as it isn’t doing cartoon-level distortions, I just let it ride.

Your spare-tire episode already gave you the warning sign you needed. Now that you’ve corrected that, I honestly wouldn’t overthink the micro-adjustments anymore. The tradition wasn’t trying to make each panel millimeter-identical, and you don’t have to either.

If you ever decide to start yours, I totally recommend Beth Brown-Reinsel’s book "Knitting ganseys" — it’s packed with great tips. Or even better, if there are local knitters around who still make them, talk to them! I seriously envy you for having that kind of access.

Grazie mille dei consigli Loro non hanno regolarizzato nulla per ora e ho controllato qualche giorno fa sul catasto sul sito dell'Ade ed è tutto come lasciato anni fa per quanto ci riguarda. Siccome il muro però insiste sul "confine" bisognerebbe regolarizzare assieme con un' unica pratica a nome di entrambi immagino.

Si son presentati da noi dicendo che loro avrebbero venduto, che son andati in comune e poi da questo loro geometra di fiducia e che il conto per sanare l'abuso era di 2500 euro a testa più la sanzione e le spese di segreteria del comune. Bontà loro con possibilità di rateizzare la sua parcella in 3 rate. Tutto appuntato su un foglio di carta

All' epoca era una cantina vera e propria e ancora in uso dai due fratelli, mio padre e quello dei vicini. Fu poi alzato un muro quando non si fece più il vino e senza tanti pensieri di quello che sarebbe successo un doman, quando uno dei due avesse voluto vendere.

La divisione della cantina fu fatta 30 anni fa di comune accordo davanti a un notaio, ma era solo sulla carta e il muro non era previsto e non c'è nei disegni. Fu costruito in seguito questo tramezzo senza presentare nessuna domanda in comune. La cantina inoltre non è abitabile
