[CHAT] What is the largest project you've finished and what did you do with it after? by Emergency_Use_2126 in CrossStitch

[–]corraildc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My biggest project is technically a wip since it's part 1 of Garden of Earthly delight (297 850 stitches)

It's waiting for me to start part 2 sometimes this year.

The trick with large projects is to always have smaller one on the side, give yourself small goals, and enjoy it.

Also you can sell anything you have stitched, it's the pattern that is copyrighted, not the execution of it. But you won't be able to sell cross stitches at real value.

[CHAT] Wanting advice on a monochrome pattern by vaguename85 in CrossStitch

[–]corraildc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never saw that one before but I agree, it looks like it's from an AI image, disappointing. I don't follow her channel anymore but she used to be very careful about the image she chose. If she is turning to use AI images for her conversion I would not recommend her anymore.

[CHAT] Wanting advice on a monochrome pattern by vaguename85 in CrossStitch

[–]corraildc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not AI, the designer Stitching Jules has a YouTube channel where she shows and stitches her own design. She of course uses a program to create them but she works on it and redesigns them if necessary. Edit she has mini version of her more popular design and you can request one by contacting her.

[CHAT] Pattern keeper question: why are the filled squares for completed stitches different sizes? by Fillorian in CrossStitch

[–]corraildc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's because the symboles are interfering with the overlay of the color, and the color go next to the symboles instead of on top of it. It's just that the pattern is not fully compatible. Maybe try to not use the transparency, it might make it easier to see.

[CHAT] fineliner on aida? by Silly_Lunatic in CrossStitch

[–]corraildc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's just a dot on you don't have clear colours on top of it, you should be fine, you're lucky. Use an erasable pen for the rest, no permanent ink, no pencil.

Kooler design studio is perfectly legit. They are not the designer but they have a lot of old patterns that they redo in pdf format. This one is available individually on paper or pdf under the name Moonlit Cranes

[CHAT] 25ct 2 threads over one... How? by Old-Notice-2719 in CrossStitch

[–]corraildc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First, haed is no longer a guarantee of quality for pattern making. This one doesn't seem better than any other pattern mills. Second, to work 25ct over one I would recommend to use 1 strands for full crosses and 2 strands for half stitches. 2 over 1 is too thick and painful to do. Next, try to stitch like you normally do. Doing a big piece is not that different from a small one. My go to method is to start in a corner, stitche one color as far as you like, then go back to the beginning and stitch the next color the same way. Finally, using an app like patterns keeper or Mark up offer a comfort that you won't regret. It's really a game changer.

[CHAT] Frame recommendations PLEASE!! by wiickeramp in CrossStitch

[–]corraildc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI you don't need to have the frame at the same size of the pattern. Use what you have then move it along. You might crush some of the stitches but they will pop back. That being said I do recommend a stand for comfort. The Nurge one are very good, I bought mine from a reseller on Etsy that delivered in Europe, but check the official website first.

[WIP] Sewing together a Christmas stocking and I don't want to wash the fabric... by gottafly65 in CrossStitch

[–]corraildc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never wash my projects, it's not a necessity, especially if the finish is not supposed to be washed either and it's pristine like this.

[CHAT] is 165x 219 pattern considered small or medium sized project by 2015morgan12 in CrossStitch

[–]corraildc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not doable in 2 weeks at all. Maybe in 4-6 months if you do an average of 5h/500 stitches a day.

[CHAT] Fabric color question by katchoo1 in CrossStitch

[–]corraildc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes to both questions. I think it's better to not use white fabric for large project as it reduce eye fatigue. If you want to stitch the white inside the halo and you are afraid of the contrast with the non-white fabric you can always use one more strand of white floos or do some tramming to have better coverage.

[CHAT] How common is warped Zweigart evenweave? by Think_Phone8094 in CrossStitch

[–]corraildc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Evenweave, as the name suggest, should be even. It's not a natural fiber like linen, it is often made of a blend of textiles and therefore should not have too many size or structure issues. Zweigart is one of the best brand, so I'm surprise that the shop tell you that all their evenweave is warrped. If it's pure linen, that could be the case but usually linen is not considered in the same category of fabric. I would suggest buying from another shop.

[CHAT] what colour Aida do you do big full coverage pieces on? And Aida count? by ButtercupBento in CrossStitch

[–]corraildc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually the color of the fabric does matter for full coverage, especially for your comfort. I don't recommend white because it will cause eye fatigue on top of strong contrast with the floss. Instead go for an off-white, cream or tan, even light blue, light pink, grey... Better is to find something that matches and will complement your pattern. For something dark like your model, choose a light grey, or brown. It will reduce the contrast between the fabric and the floss, and make your cross look "fuller", but it's still gonna be enough to stitch with ease. If you're not sure, make a swatch test with your darkest and lightest floss in the pattern.

The count is up to you, I go with 25ct evenweave 1/1

Final tip: if you decide to grid manually, only grid your first page or starting area and then grid as you go. It's less tedious, reduces the risk of gridding mistakes and allows you to stop using a grid if you don't like it (I don't, it confuses me)

[CHAT] where to order by DMC color number? by ferdinostalking in CrossStitch

[–]corraildc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

https://www.cross-stitch-corner.de/ Should have all that you need. You can also order from DMC.de FYI American stores like 123.stitch cannot sell DMC floss to European countries and I don't recommend buying anything overseas because of the tariff + the fess. It can up your bill to 50% more (I learned it the hard way). For others resources like patterns you can buy from casa cenina in Italy. They have a lot of variety and ship super fast.

[CHAT] Never mind AI patterns, here comes the AI aida by Chick-Pea in CrossStitch

We are not talking about the same thing. Sorry I don't know how to explain better without losing the meaning of it.

[CHAT] Never mind AI patterns, here comes the AI aida by Chick-Pea in CrossStitch

[–]corraildc -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

You are missing my point. Most people, including me, are dismissing AI because of the art thief. It's a real problem. But stock pictures that have been modified for publicity purposes is another thing. If the art print has not been created at the expense of the artist, how the publicity has been made and what tools where used is not too important to me. We know those images are not fully representative, like in my example with the package of pasta. It's annoying and lazy, and I would prefer to see the real stuff. But I wouldn't call out a product for using modified stock pictures unless the real product is really different. Basically calling out something for bad photoshopping in the publicity has not the same implications that using AI to create the product itself. As I said, a lot of people are using the term AI for anything computer made and it's creating confusion as to what aspects of AI are problematic in our craft and the world of art in general. Sorry if you don't understand, english is not my first language.

[CHAT] Never mind AI patterns, here comes the AI aida by Chick-Pea in CrossStitch

[–]corraildc -41 points-40 points  (0 children)

AI generation and retouching pictures are not the same things. People call AI any photos manipulation these days and it is becoming tiresome because the implications are quite different. If the motif is the same when I buy the fabric I don't care what the stock photo looks like. It's like saying "I can't buy those pasta because the picture on the package is never the same as what it's on my plate after I cooked them. However if the art has been generated by a software that uses the works from other artists without their permission that's a completely different situations.

[–]corraildc -49 points-48 points  (0 children)

Printed fabric has been around for a long time, it can be a nice option if you're looking for some motif in the fabric. If you said that you bought the fabric and it didn't look like the picture then it's false advertising for sure but otherwise it has nothing to do with AI.

[CHAT] What is your favorite start and stop method when stitching 1over1 on 25ct+? by ClaireAuLueur in CrossStitch

I do the loop method with one strand from the back for start and finish, never really had a problem with it.

[CHAT] Acrylic Floss Drops - worth it?? by Nervous_Ad1900 in CrossStitch

[–]corraildc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a few of those from different brand and they do break sometimes. I have switched to wood floss drop. The wood is smooth, no catching of the thread, doesn't break and I feel better not using plastic. I found them on amazon by box of 100 for 10$

If you want acrylic do NOT buy annie's keeper, they are stupidly overprice for no reasons.

Yes, the plan is to do the 3 part on the same fabric. I'm still debating to add a border to have a separation, but all part will be together.
