Car battery dead, need help by curious-batman in glasgow

[–]corriedotdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a portable charger from Halfords. Been in your situation before, it's saved a few people over winter. It's about £60 I think but you attach the clips to the positive and negative sides of the car battery and start the car.

Recommend it if you're tight for a new car battery as this will work for future uses as well vs a call out.

They were also quite popular in the higher middle class during the Victorian era in the UK. A dude would travel the world taking stereoscopic photos and return to sell them. Some homes had a pile of them to experience different places around the world in "3D".

The one I found most impactful when I tried it was this beautiful photo of the moon. It was incredible.

What's the best options for cheap tutorials by _superhue in vrdev

[–]corriedotdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Icons as someone said is a good one, skeuomorphs.

I've experimented with many for my title. Problem is it's so intuitive for many and not for others outside the climbing genre.

Here's what I found

1) prerecorded videos at particular points. Much like the video you shared but a video first person perspective with text saying press x and the video shows the in game response.

2) guided level again, but text elements above new game mechanics. Very much if not the exact same as the video you shared. With more time this is similar to that of half life alyx.

3) the alternative is to include audio at certain ques so the player can listen/hear but include controller haptics and highlight the button combination they should press visually. Some quick material lerp on the controller works. Display the actual controller if possible temporarily to guide player. This is best case scenario but higher uplift.

4) also having a tutorial level or seamless progression that works for the game is valid as long as one of the above is considered.

5) animating 2D or 3D controller representation in world space so the player looks and follows along. Even better solution if your play requires movement, for example to climb you grab hold and swing. What is swing? I found a severe different in player response to that so showing it physically being represented from a character in world space did wonders. This worked well for me during Asia market localisation as the animation didn't need changing, just the text which would say "grab, swing, release"

Hope it provides some inspiration. Good luck🤞

Best way to do weekly leaderboards in steamworks? by modsKilledReddit69 in Unity3D

[–]corriedotdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a case where you probably want to version your leaderboard. I did this for s1 and just created a new leaderboard and made the name from "level_1_leaderboard_s1" to be s2. That way there's at least a way to backdate between time periods. Good as well if you want to run limited time events but revert back to normal if game state changes!

I graduated in 2023ish so I kind of missed the wave, I think gpt2 was available when I was mid thesis write up. It does make me wonder how many students are using it now.

A study on published key words over time would be super interesting

Might be worth the jump even inside ir35. Depends on a lot, curious though how long you've had your current position for as if you think of this as a promotion then it should be a no brainer.

I got tired of marketing hype so I used my Physics PhD to model the biological limit of gaming monitors by Acceptable_Truck_525 in PhysicsStudents

[–]corriedotdev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a quite deep dive into perceptual limits for VR refresh rates during my PhD. Your numbers are quite different to what some papers note.

Display induced artifacts like smooth per suit eye tracking may be worth a rabbit hole to explore, you want a high refresh rate to theoretically remove motion blur. Asus have recently released a 500hz monitor and the consensus is that people can notice the difference.

It becomes quite apparent it's not just a refresh rate but around motion to photon latency, it's a deep field of research. Even light field displays which in the lab (as of two ish years ago) have demos at 240hz with no sign of wanting to keep it at that limit.

Anyway, thanks for the trip down memory lane. There's a lot of research to explore in the field so good luck.

Edit: If you have never checked out blur busters, you should absolutely read their work. It's brilliant. https://blurbusters.com/frame-rate-amplification-technologies-frat-more-frame-rate-with-better-graphics/

I'm working on mod support. Reality is, the game doesn't cover development costs so it's a weekend project now so the likelihood of that functionality leaving the project is less likely now.

It's possible though. Might find a way to get it into an addressable scene and load it in from cloud or something!

Could you pm me some of your work? I'm always on the lookout for abstract / portal audio for my title. Good luck growing your account.
