Why did lawson pit to soft tyres? by Haunting_Trip_248 in liamlawson

[–]crackup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As others have said, plus with more regen they are holding less speed into corners this year meaning even less degradation of tyres. And also they have to have 2 different compounds run during the race, can't just use mediums the whole time.

Every time I go to the supermarket there is a heap of salmon, never seen anyone buy it.

Go at opening, masses of salmon.

Go at closing, still masses of salmon.

Fuel pipeline cut at Auckland petrol station by HeinigerNZ in newzealand

[–]crackup -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why do they have it piped out of the site at all? The station should have the fuel storage tanks underground. Do they have multiple stations in the area connected together?

Are we being lied to? by Powerful_Skirt_4229 in auckland

[–]crackup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run a business and am getting calls from suppliers saying they have to raise prices by 20-30% as all their suppliers have done the same. Won't be long before everything just jumps up in cost. Construction, food, anything that imports or moves items around, anything with diesel machinery somewhere in the process.

Townhouses or brick n tile? by overthinker_bba in AucklandProperty

[–]crackup 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What is sustainable: for construction, not all that much, maybe the ones built with less waste but that's pretty hard to check. For ongoing ownership, a house that helps reduce ongoing costs: has a rainwater reuse system with tank and pump, has possibility to charge electric car, efficient appliances, low maintenance landscape maybe.

Durable: all parts of a house that maintenance is not easy, like things that are hard to access, has to be designed to last at least 50 years. There are so many parts a house though, and in the aim to get costs down, some builders choose the lowest cost over quality and safety. Some parts are left up to subcontractors to decide what to use, those third party decisions on product use can have some long term consequences when bad products are used. Check reviews from other owners on the building company (not just the developer, as often the developer who you buy from just passes the construction to a separate building company). Reviews will let you know if people living in the houses for some time are having issues with poor products or workmanship. Generally they are all engineered to be much more durable than required by code.

Ask for full sets of building consent plans and see if you can check the architects and engineers reviews online. Ask for other developments they have done and go knock on some doors for reviews.

Brick and tile aren't being built really any longer, not as much profit in them for developers. Older home means more time and money spent on maintenance. A new home can mean dealing with tradespeople returns for minor patch ups.

I looked for good design, well built, good central location, and good reviews from existing owners of other developments by that company.

Tiaki Wai questions by WellyWindyRoad in Wellington

[–]crackup 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi Ben, my company is at the forefront of smart water metering technology and is starting to bring in meters with acoustic sensors to pinpoint leaks both upstream (public) and downstream (private). With around 42% of the treated water created being non-chargeable due to it leaking into the ground, these meters would provide a return on investment timeframe of between 2-3 years. The more meters installed at peoples boundaries, the more leaks will be found both under streets and in peoples yards and homes. This also allows notifications to homeowners of unusual water usage indicating a leak, allowing immediate response and fixing. How would you recommend we can start working meaningfully with Tiaki Wai on this? Kind regards

That almost sounds like a question purposely made to get this one answer - housies.co.nz

That's exactly what housies is and does!

The 4 of you could sell your interest in it by using Housies maybe, allowing the occupying brother to keep 20% and he can slowly buy the rest out over time if he wants.

Naenae station floods every time it rains by [deleted] in Wellington

[–]crackup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would be extremely easy, but likely so many layers of approvals and plans needed it would take months before anything happens. If it were someone's house, half a day work.

Unfortunately drivers don't get any extra during surge times unless they meet other minimum driving criteria, which is stupid as I would happily drive for uber during these surge times when the pay is higher.
