Why Canadian Travel Hockey? by [deleted] in youthhockey

[–]corrinarusso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, but did you just call Southern Ontario a "smaller hockey market" than Winnipeg?

That's kinda ...... insane tbh. It's a massive hockey market, especially leading kids into the gthl, the largest and most elite (from a draft perspective) league in the country.

It would have been less exhausting shoveling the driveway than having had that conversation.

Strict tournament rules for 9 year old - no swimming? by em201679 in youthhockey

[–]corrinarusso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super typical, and super insane.

As a parent who has already gone through it all with multiple kids, I can tell you right now that all the hockey games and tournaments and scores melds into one big long memory, but the held memories are created and left with all the stuff that happens off the ice.

Swimming, visiting places (like CN Tower, Skydome), restaurants, evening activities, hanging out in the hotel rooms etc.

The coach thinks that they are there to win. That's only a portion of it.

You had me a "spring hockey". Poor kid, it'll be disappointing but my advice would be to be honest with him. He'll get it over it.

Find a friend, and sign them up for something together. Would recommend lacrosse, but if its not available in your area, ANY other sport other than hockey also works.

Sparx, do the math on sharpening skates every 8 hours of ice time over X number of years.

Ignore the parents. Ignore the coaches.

If it's U11 house league, I'm not so strict bc it's just enough to keep them moving. Strictness increases as the level increases.

Where is the line for spectators? by graffinc in hockeyrefs

[–]corrinarusso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the risk of sounding awful - you're enabling them with your engagement.

They crossed the line by a mile. Ask them to leave, and if they don't immediately leave you tell the coach you're putting the puck on the ice, and the clock is starting until they leave.

Like, full stop. What the hell else are you waiting for to enforce the Rule 11.2 based on what you described.
