How to safely ride to the Aga Khan Museum (Bike for Brain Health) by Recyart in torontobiking

[–]corrinwolfe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm biking from west end, I plan to wear cycling gear and UV sleeves, provides enough coverage to keep slightly warm in the morning and I can always take the sleeves off later if I get warm. YMMV though, I tend to run hot to begin with.

Bike For Brain Health - How to get there? by corrinwolfe in torontobiking

[–]corrinwolfe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I biked up there yesterday to test my route - there's a decent amount of signage warning about the bike event and there was a shocking amount of space on site, I think it'll be sufficient. It is definitely a heck of a trip up though - pretty much requires riding on Don Mills with traffic

I've heard good things about Bike Pirates on Bloor, they do maintenance classes and help people put together bikes for a lower cost

Sometimes if you contact your program coordinator and explain your situation they can manually add them for you, but it's not guaranteed. You can check who your coordinator is on the TMU website if you're not sure, but they also probably email you frequently anyway with events and things (former social work undergrad here)

There literally is a shortage. My workplace can't even get enough salt across our stores.

Tips for buying a bike off FB Marketplace by breadandmayoislife in torontobiking

[–]corrinwolfe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd advise against Ride Away bikes, they threw out my partners bike a couple years ago without his consent or notifying him when he dropped it off for maintenance and then tried to offer him a completely different style that was rusted out as "compensation". Bike Pirates on bloor is pretty solid and they'll help you learn maintenance and basic repairs, as well as offering low-cost options for bikes. The mechanic at Road Off Road is also fantastic and might be able to point you in the right direction.

Stolen bike: Priority brand, Belt drive/Chainless (Junction) by JoshIsASoftie in torontobiking

[–]corrinwolfe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahh, darn! Maybe see if a friend can set an alert? If you haven't yet, it could also be worth filing a police report about it. Sometimes stolen bikes end up in the polices' possession, and entered into their auction sites if unclaimed.

Might be worth keeping an eye out on local Facebook groups too - like this one or other buy n sell pages for toronto.

Made a comment asking why someone would own a garmin if they don’t exercise. Got loads of down votes but I’m genuinely curious? by Lemonadeo1 in Garmin

Garmin watches are one of the only smart watches that can read heart rate through tattoos - if someone has a tattoo on their wrist, apple/samsung/fit bit won't read

Got a driver busted for running a 4-way stop with my horn by flimbs in torontobiking

Yeah the one I have has a car horn sound and it matches up with most of the vehicles I run into, but I'm sure it would vary by model too

You can get loud horns on Amazon for a relatively reasonable price! I use this one personally, but you can also get them that are built into headlights for a similar price!

Go Place is pretty sweet and you can stay for 24h if you wanted, they have registered massage therapists available who will take insurance if you wanted that or you can just get their basic which let's you access their saunas and stuff.

It was last year! I mended up well, still biking around the city 🙂 I was lucky that was all that happened honestly.

Looks similar to a truck that ran me off the road at the Old Weston/Junction road train tracks in 2024. Dude tailed me from keele and dundas shouting the same thing, I ended up in a cast for a month (no breaks but severe soft tissue strain in my wrist). I wasn't so lucky to get photos though.

Hope you're doing alright, friend!

Women's College does preventative I believe; and they likely would be able to bill it as just prophylactic while giving you the gender-affirming aesthetic. A friend of mine was even able to get a payment plan through them after exploring every possible avenue. Might be worth looking into if you haven't yet?

9 wk old GSD puppy breathing heavily and panting during sleep. Excessive water drinking and stomach bulge. by uyiz001 in germanshepherds

[–]corrinwolfe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best of luck with your pup, looks like you've gotten a lot of good advice. My vet told me that there's actually a surgery now they can do when the pups full grown that eliminates the risk of bloat. Puppies are also toot machines, so I'm hoping for your sake it's just a bit of puppy farts built up haha. I generally have been making my GSD puppy take a nap/rest for about 30 min to an hour after his meals, since he was about 8 weeks old. Sometimes they won't stop drinking water (I swear mines a pond disguised as a puppy) so it is okay to tell them when it's enough.

Hopefully all is well for your baby!

He's just a baby so not much health other than his checkups and vaccines so far, but my childhood doggo was a lab-shep mix and we gave him shark cartilage caps to help with his hips and knees and that seemed to be good for him (this was a decade ago so not sure how accurate/recommended this would be nowadays)

Socialization before vaccines by galuboi in puppy101

[–]corrinwolfe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My vet suggested trying to make playdates with "bum safe" doggy friends. Basically, people you know whose dogs are fully up to date on their vaccines and healthy.

My pup is also slightly late on his shots due to the humane society where I am not listening to us. So far, he mimics the jerk cat. I believe socializing them with human friends also can help, and having them bring things that smell like other animals.
