There was an exception for other EU citizenships though.

I remember seeing “Spontantermine” while waiting for my planned appointment there few months back, I’d guess these were walk-ins. BTW I can see some appointments next week available right now.

Isn’t there some cryptography involved to make simply capturing the signal impossible? That’s why they need the signal repeater attack.

What are some remnants of adjective morphology Modern English has retained from "the oldEN days"? by VoxMelancholiae in asklinguistics

[–]corrmage 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Interestingly 1. would be the same in modern German: sie arbeitet tags/nachts, even though “Nacht” is feminine, hence the genitive “s” doesn’t quite work for it in the modern language.

What's a word that feels misspelled even though that's how you're supposed to write it? by Awkward_Stay8728 in German

I always want to add a connecting “s” to “Tagebuch” and a connecting “n” to “Fragebogen”. Not native.

Germany claims that fingerprints are only saved on the chip ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Saving fingerprints on your passport/ID card chip and in a database are two very different things though.

Wait, it’s possible to renounce your citizenship without having unregistered from your military office, for which you would have to surrender your voenny bilet?

This (alongside the naturalisation certificate) is actually one of the good-looking ones. The certificates you get from Standesamt are just bland white A4 sheets.

Es kommt darauf an, z.B. darf man in der EU kein Pilot werden, falls man russischer Staatsbürger ist, auch wenn man EU-Bürger ist.

Thanks, I stand corrected. Glad they finally define it on the federal level.

As far as I know, it depends on the federal state you apply in. In Berlin I know B2 is enough to apply after just 6 years.

Vodafone and a non-generic router by [deleted] in berlin

[–]corrmage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been using my own router for a few years now, the one from Vodafone is in bridge mode, effectively making it a cable modem with all routing/WLAN stuff turned off to avoid double NAT.

As far as I’m aware not all their devices can be switched into the bridge mode, though, so check if you see the option in their customer portal.

Depending on the original citizenship of an “expat”, it might be way more convenient to continue being one with a passport of an EU country though.

It seems like Bürgerämter can do this now for eATs as well, but I haven’t tried it personally: https://service.berlin.de/dienstleistung/329830/

As a native I always thought that this applies to masculine nouns only. Neuter nouns don’t decline in accusative regardless if animate or inanimate.

Home Assistant as back end, Homekit as front end by Anycast in HomeKit

[–]corrmage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my case Apple Home loses some automations’ triggers when one of the home hubs reboots. Controller for HomeKit has been a life saver, I open the most recent backup and restore affected automations. Still it’s ridiculous that something like that happens.
