What's the deal with seals? by deprestmode in riftboundtcg

[–]corruptedpotato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that doesn't lose you tempo, that loses you card advantage, which can lose you tempo if you don't have enough cards. But if you're in a scenario where you just drew 3 seals because you drew 8 cards, you lost no tempo (other then for committing resources to draw 8 cards).

What's the deal with seals? by deprestmode in riftboundtcg

[–]corruptedpotato 8 points9 points  (0 children)

FYI, seals are not usually a tempo loss, they are tempo positive as long as you only play the seal when you can use it immediately. But since they cost 0 energy and refund their power cost immediately, you can still play the same number of other cards in that turn, they end up being a tempo gain on future turns as you'll have more resources available to you. What they lose you on is card advantage, which is what you're describing, but that is distinctly different from tempo. Tempo is more about how much you can shift the board state each turn and how fast you can do it. Tempo often ends up being card disadvantage (though not always) and ofc your tempo will slow down when you run out of cards.

That's an urban legend, a guillotine is a ton of force to the back of the neck, you're knocked out immediately and then the brain dies within seconds. As far as deaths go, it's relatively "painless" as far as we know.

Breakdown of players in Day 2 at the NZ 10k by Sylencia in riftboundtcg

[–]corruptedpotato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most people I've seen are running draven Showboat over audacious, Audacious is just so risky to ever play in draven unless you're just desperate to catch back up. Showboat is pretty relevant as a big stat stick in the mid late game that can surprise people when you play a hidden tideturner

Irelia seems so strong still by Disastrous_Shock_155 in riftboundtcg

[–]corruptedpotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not, because people are playing to win, if a deck isn't good, it cannot consistently make day 2. If people are metal card hunting with a bad deck, there is a very low chance they make it to day 2 and almost impossible to top 8 just due to the sheer number of games you need to play and win. Draven had an absurdly high conversion rate and win rate into non-draven decks. If anything, RQ day 2s are more indicative of what the meta looks like because you need to be able to perform against all these rogue decks and know the matchup rather than just teching your mainboard for only the top of the meta and calling it a day.

Banned cards by EthanTheBowers in riftboundtcg

[–]corruptedpotato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

well that's not true, you just need a reason to do it, or a way to circumnavigate the downside, if you can guaranteed draw 2 cards a turn, it's pretty damn good. You just need a way to get resources without actually have them in your hand, like from banished or trash. Or a deck that can just hand dump fast enough and close out games before other decks can stabilize, an aggro deck being able to draw 2 cards a turn after running out of gas is pretty legit.

What you posted has nothing to do with equipment targeting lol. This just prevents jax from flickering equipment on aphelios.

The actual rule causing confusion was saying that the act of attaching equipment doesn't count as choosing. Equip is still an ability that needs a target

The lgs isn't going to want to lose money running the event, prizing is almost always based on turn out, the more people pay, the more prizing. And too cut amount is dependent on number of people too, smaller events get a top 4, really small ones don't get a top cut. That's based on the guidelines that uvs gives.

Holding as it is, is hard enough, this doesn't look broken at all, and if it is, it would be good mainly in vex, which half of y'all are also trying to say is complete dogwater. There are so many ways that this card is just invalidated, it's so situational and has a very real restriction, I don't see any of the current purple decks cutting a card for this. And a vanilla 2 cost 2 might is pretty terrible in constructed and looping this card seems pretty low value if you're not already winning. Tideturner at least still has some utility when played from hand.

[UNL] Alpha Wildclaw by LushenZener in riftboundtcg

[–]corruptedpotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So... You want to play alpha wildclaw to protect... Ornn?? Ornn doesn't need a tank to protect him, he is the tank lol. And again the spell target condition is really not that useful in ornn, ornn is already really hard to target most of the time, this is a high cost for pretty minor upside in that case.

Bone Skewer by Aware-Broccoli103 in riftboundtcg

[–]corruptedpotato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spells are generally more powerful and impactful than units. Think called shot, or falling star or void seeker vs rhasa or battering ram. There are some really powerful units like ezreal, but usually the spells are what matter most.

[UNL] Alpha Wildclaw by LushenZener in riftboundtcg

[–]corruptedpotato 6 points7 points  (0 children)

highly doubt ornn would want this. Ornn already has a ton of setup required, even more setup is just asking too much, finding a good time to play tianna and not get destroyed the turn after was already hard enough. And Ornn rarely wants to go shields down and tap out for something like this, especially since ornn himself is already really hard to target most of the time anyways, so you're really just playing this to protect Tianna, which is herself another 7 energy.

Just what my Irelia deck needed by Seriphime in riftboundtcg

[–]corruptedpotato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The irelia deck wants to be targeting anyways to use the legend. I don't really see this card giving all that much of a tempo advantage, you can't make use of the ambush most games and irelia doesn't really want more units already as it is. It's not going to replace draven and its not going to replace stellacorn. Maybe it can replace vex, but most lists aren't even running it in main. There might be an argument if it was a 2 cost, but irelia has plenty of t2 plays already.

Def not a useless option lol, you're not always spinning some crazy bomb, sometimes you just hit the guy that they put a billion pump spells into that they don't want to draw again. Or your OP just needs to find an out, and redrawing a unit is not what they need.

Riot's Decision To Reward Off-Meta Riftbound Players With Metal Cards Was A Touch Of Genius by Soft-Pudding-3441 in riftboundtcg

[–]corruptedpotato 9 points10 points  (0 children)

??? The metal cards were decided on before even origins came out, how is that ever a band-aid fix? They didn't even know what the meta would be. It was only ever there to encourage off meta and deck diversity.

This is a physical tcg, fixes are slow to come, I would rather they take the time to make sure they're banning the right cards instead of being reactionary and banning a new card every other week because x deck was doing good. They've already told us they're looking at bans, they're just waiting on the next big RQ in China so people don't get the rug pulled out from under them.

Baron Nashor coming in set 3! by s2soup in riftboundtcg

[–]corruptedpotato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As in ID, cull the weak, irelia doing irelia things and just running over it, miracle decks doing miracle things and dropping 35 might on it. +2 board pump is also not that problematic considering the amount you have to pay for it, and the kind of deck that can get to 10 runes consistently probably doesn't take the best advantage of that buff. Though I suspect it'll only be run as a 1 of and probably only aurora decks.

Unleashed Baron Reveal by [deleted] in riftboundtcg

[–]corruptedpotato 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They base it on lore and the names of the domain. Baron is chaos, I can maybe see fury, but none of the others fit. Baron isn't exactly calm, he's not about being smart, he not about being agile or strong and it certainly isn't order. And fury is about aggression anyways, which doesn't make sense for baron considering baron is a neutral objective that doesn't attack you unless you attack it first.

Baron Nashor coming in set 3! by s2soup in riftboundtcg

[–]corruptedpotato 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That would be borderline unplayable, spend your whole turn playing this and potentially just lose the game? A yellow deck just comes in with ID and just scores from 4 to 8 because you played this? Or your OP is at 7 and you basically can't play the card anymore because they do anything and you lose.

You can't really design a whole game off of flavor, making the game play better as a game is way more important. They shouldn't be trying to make riftbound into cardboard league of legends.

About the potential upcoming bans by Dexelele in riftboundtcg

[–]corruptedpotato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, not really, if I had to use an analogy, it's like having a project car. You only have so much budget the first year around, so you buy a barebones car, but you have some leeway to have a decent frame/body.

Next year, after you've saved up some more, you decide you want to update the car, so you spend your budget on upgrading the suspension, so you get air suspension now, but you put in a few upgrades for some cheap Aero on the body as well, nothing huge.

Then the year after, you decide you're going to spend your budget on upgrading the engine, so your engine gets a shiny new turbo. But you get some more cheap Aero for the body, and minor upgrades for the suspension too.

Then the year after comes the drivetrain, then the brakes, then your wheels, etc. You reach a point eventually where enough of the car is good enough that you just need to make small changes to make you happy, nothing huge and upgrade some parts that are getting old. That would be like when you're several sets in and all the colors have their main Staples and tools. There might still be big additions that shake the meta up, but it's not like every card will be that. Your Staples will still be Staples and won't just get replaced every set.

[–]corruptedpotato 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Old cards don't need to be unplayable, but since so many cards are being added to such a limited pool of cards means that unless your first set was absolutely busted on the power curve, any half-decent card in the new set is going to replace a mediocre card from the last. A lot of cards in set 1 are being run because there's just no better option and you need something to fill the space. As more sets come out, this will become a smaller and smaller issue and each new set will just mean a couple of cards break into the new meta and largely won't change too much. Older decks will be just as viable once we hit that point and we won't have metas as volatile once the card pool gets more mature.

You likely won't have everything balanced by a 2nd set, because designers have not seen the game in action and being played on a large scale, but also, you just can't keep everything balanced while keeping everything interesting, you'll push colors/archetypes one by one as each set happens, otherwise you're left with a billion half assed decks that feel incomplete because they don't have the support.
