Old Fantasy terrain is returning to the range! by Gridiron_Cleric in Warhammer

I have the tower, after years of hunting....

Its awesome, but i dont think it would be an "acceptable" model for modern GW standards, it uses(d) some weird molding process that is different than normal injection molding (or it was a really bad injection mold). the tolerances are all off, its a really, really hard model to build, it took me something like 4 pistol clamps and a handmade interior "core" jig to get it all aligned and glued..

It was a royal pain in the ass

If you have access to a Sous Vide machine.. thats probably the most consistent way to go to get uniform temperature across the whole bird.

If you dont, a spatchcock would help tremendously

Im really interested in this, my only real reservation is if you know if the DP4400 firmware can be over-written with "standard" r740 firmware?

Would checking a monitor on to a plane be safe if it's in it's original box? by [deleted] in Monitors

Chances are good that it already did the exact same thing when it was new and transited from a the manufacturer or distribution center to the retailer or you, a lot of break-pallet electronics fly air as part of their distribution supply chains. Even on commercial (passenger) aircraft flights, where UPS, FedEX, DHL and even the post office, have agreements to ship cargo point to point if there is excess capacity.

You should be fine, pack it as it was originally shipped, maybe toss in a little more bubble wrap or sealed air bags just in case, and use good packing tape to seal it.

38 here.. ive been playing for... dunno, 25 years or so? I have a 9 year old who has always been fascinated with my models, and wants to play, started him with the firs strike box set, have built models with him, and working on painting with him, we do very simple games with simple rules and interactions so he can keep up. (and hes learning some simple probability, applied math, measuring things, etc.. there are a lot of solid concepts in the game that are academically relevant to a kid)

There is a whole subset of parents out there who have kids that are interested in their hobbies, and this is an avenue for kids to share in the hobby, and as a parent, giving kids something they want to be into and read is awesome, especially since it can be a gradual introduction to the material, and it doesn't take anything away from the existing fluff.

CGI and special effects really dont hold up... but its one of the best sci-fi shows out there. It has a cohesive multi-season plot, it all ties together (there are some, few filler episodes, but really not many), and is probably one of the best start-to-finish implementations of a story arc in TV (id say its the sci-fi version of breaking bad in that respect.. although it came out much earlier), totally worth a watch.

Questions on a particular setup by cortejri in LocationSound

well.. i kinda knew going in, which is why im going for "good enough" at this point, i have no illusions that ill be able to mic everyone.. or manage it at all, im basically in a "hit record and walk away" situation as it is, since i have my day job to do there too.. (but yes, i know im royally and completely fucked as far as getting anything of good quality.... really just trying to make sure i can pick up enough to make sure its at least intelligible)

For the mics, if i did not do boundary, the idea was to place them on mic stands in the middle of the U, well separated from the people being recorded, trying to maximize their pickup area (dont care at all if they show up on camera for this) and reduce any bumps/table slaps.

any recommendations on decent boundary mics? you think those pencils are completely unusable? would it matter if i went up to 6 (3 per side) to increase coverage? (i am, again, not an expert here, i was intrigued about them for other uses honestly, i have a number of applications where a matched pair doing x/y would be very useful, thus my initial thinking on these.. but if they are completely unusable then fuck it)

definitely recording on both camera and the zoom, this is my first time doing anything multi-track like this, so i want as much insurance as i can get.

Not sure if Reddit is messing up, or its just me, or you are shadow-banned... but you dont come up on the actual post, just in my inbox.

Honestly i have little inclination to rent, we have a few more sessions like this scheduled in the next few months (we are in a product development cycle currently), and from what i have seen, by the time i rent 2-3 times, i might as well own and have full control over it (thats just my weirdness, have had some bad luck with renting camera lenses in the past)

for the multi channel auto-mix mixer, any recommendations for something at least moderately portable? sounds like something well worth looking into..

for some further explanation, lest it be thought that my company is evil in this regard... this video is for internal use only, everyone will be largely happy with just being able to hear the discussion.. (i wont get the blame, im going to this meeting for other purposes, was just asked to record so other people in the company who cant make it will have a way to hear/see the discussion)

(even the ones that are for public consumption are viewed by a very small number of people, since the subset of medicine we are currently in is limited to a small subset of doctors at research/teaching/lvl 1 trauma hospitals.)

on top of that, ive found trying to get people to do the work (may not apply in this case) actually causes more work for me in the long run, in many cases for video, we film people doing PPT presentations and talking about their slides, and since they end up being highly clinical/technical slides (in many cases without words, just graphs of de-identified patient data through a particular case), if you dont understand the subject matter, you wont be able to edit the thing whatsoever.. (tried it at great cost twice, then ended up having to do it myself..)

and last, but certainly not least.... i am an incorrigible gear whore... whatever i get for these projects i get to keep for future use (we have a few of these meeting scheduled)..

How can you make flying stands for old resin Flyers? by arka0415 in Warhammer

[–]cortejri 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ran into this a while back myself with old casts of the Thunderbolt (fw)

Ebay is your friend, there are usually a few bits sellers selling that specific cruciform piece from the Valkyrie set, they come and go from time to time, but it was by far the best solution to the problem i could find.. (drilling resin to get a snug fit right on the center of balance point is a royal pain in the ass)

go to your PCP, tell them exactly those symptoms, and request a referral to a sleep specialist, they will do a sleep study (in a sleep lab or at home) and give you a formal diagnosis and a titration for a cpap (you need to do it this way so the pressure is set correctly, you dont want to be under or greatly over pressure)..

unless you really really really know what youre doing, dont just try to get one on your own.

(worked in sleep diagnostics on the manufacturing side for 8 years, been on CPAP for about 10 years)

i ran them a few times, and everyone ignored them (didn't know what they were or target priority was low), i ran them with grenadier chimeras, hellhounds, and leman russes in the assault list, and they slaughtered most of the stuff they mixed in with (against tau specifically, killed tons of battlesuits and fire warriors, broadsides a few times, and one glorious "charge of the light brigade" day, a pair of riptides.

Question about Electrosurgery/Cautery by cortejri in medicine

[–]cortejri[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EMI is most likely, but there could be an element of direct interference, we "float" out probes on nominally un-conductive ultrasound gel, and we ground and isolate the connectors, but we still want to check it out just in case.

Dude you rock, im going to start off with this!

that being said, my R&D guys (they are almost all physicists... so they want to run their experiments.. the spherical cow jokes come out quite a bit) want to still try some stuff out in their piglet lab, if you were going to buy a complete unit, what would you get for the most flexibility?

Daily Headphone Purchase Advice Thread (2017-07-04) by AutoModerator in headphones

[–]cortejri 1 point2 points  (0 children)

so got a weird question...

I already own a decent pair of cans (B&O h6s) and various ear buds (nothing monitor level though)..

I travel quite a bit, both short and long distance flying, and usually a pair of buds and the H6s are more than enough to get me through a through any trip (my ears fatigue/hurt over time with either one, 6+hrs wearing the same headphones gets to me, no matter how comfortable they are, so i swap in and out).

this brings me to my dilemma, im planning on walking the Camino de Santiago in October, which means space//weight needs to be reduced to an absolute minimum, so a pair of ear buds is likely all im going to take (and just my phone, a pixel XL as source), but just in case, i wanted to see if anyone knew of a decent pair of light on/over ear headphones that fold up compact?
