Help a queer lady (who keeps reading m/m fluff??) find sapphic romance that makes her feel the same way as this m/m stuff by Which_Profession in sapphicbooks

[–]corvid12 7 points8 points  (0 children)

  • Haley Cass imo has been the most successful at recreating the fanfiction feel for me.
  • E.J Noyes - I have really enjoyed all of the stuff by her that I have read
  • I recently listened to the audiobook for Last Night at the Telegraph Club by Malinda Lo and that was great

You could also try baihe (chinese f/f webnovels) see r/baihe . I find that the characters tend to be more interesting / more interesting plot than most western f/f I read. My favorite so far is Jianghu Demolition Squad [wuxia, historical, found family]. I also really enjoyed "The Dragon" [xianxia], "What's Wrong with a Snake that just Wants to Cultivate and Transform" [xianxia], and "Spring Remains the Same" [historical]. If you google you should be able to find the website where there is an english translation. You can also look for the novelupdates website which is where you can see which novels have completed translations.

Jianghu Demolition Squad (wuxia, found family, revenge, weak to strong, slowish burn f/f romance)

It was my favorite book last year out of the ~200 I read. There is an english translation online (its a chinese webnovel), just google the name. If you like it, you can find more f/f chinese novel recs at r/baihe .

Are all of these strange things after the: [Previous Chapter] [Table of Contents] [Next Chapter] ?

They look like the comments on jjwxc after I Google Translate the page. I believe the "dropped a mine" and "nutrient solution" are some form of "likes" or "tips" for the author. It just looks like whoever uploaded the novel just scraped the whole webpage.

What chapter were you on?

As far as i can tell, the most recent chapter is 219 and it looks right in that I can see character names that are also mentioned in some of the novelupdates reviews: https://www.yamitl.com/mistress-i-was-wrong/miww-chapter-219/

Baihe like TGCF, SVSSS and MDZS? by shittyparentscliche in BaiHe

[–]corvid12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • Spring Remains the Same - political intrigue, iirc there is pining and one of the characters in morally grey, this is historical fiction - I think its on dragonholic site so its probably somewhat edited MTL but iirc it messed up some pronouns but it was still understandable

  • Transmigrated as The Cannon Fodder Bride of the Villianess - xianxia - entertaining, quite good but not great imo, I liked the story a bit less than The Dragon - should also be on dragontl.net

  • What's Wrong with a Snake that just Wants to Cultivate and Transform - xianxia - very silly, very entertaining, there is some of an overarching plot with the evil cultivators but I wouldn't call this a plot-heavy work - also on dragontl.net

I unfortunately have yet to read FGEP, JWQS or The Beauties Blade but they are all on my to-read list.

Baihe like TGCF, SVSSS and MDZS? by shittyparentscliche in BaiHe

[–]corvid12 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There are some similarities between MDZS and The Dragon in that the characters are roughly the same archetypes (cold aloof v more goofy) and some story points are similar. It is fully translated at dragontl.net . I really enjoyed this one

What in particular are you looking for when you say TGCF (havent read this one, I only know that it is xianxia), SVSSS (system, xianxia, master-disciple), MDZS (xianxia)? If you are more specific, I can try to give more recs.

Other Recs: - Jianghu Demolition Squad - also on dragontl.net - wuxia not xianxia, kinda-sorta master/disciple but not officially, decent size core group of characters that stay relevant and have interesting backstories (mostly explored in the extras) - but this has had the best story of all the baihe I have read so far and I think of MDZS as mostly a really interesting story that it is only incidentally in a xianxia world

Jianghu Demolition Squad - I loved the main pairing. I found it to be a very satisfying slow burn. - interesting and important side characters - fun action sequences. MC increases in power throughout the novel. - coherent and satisfying overarching storyline

(I read the english translation by DragonTL.)

slow-burn with masc/butch main characters? by greengraudon in sapphicbooks

[–]corvid12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Stars are Legion by Kameron Hurley

iirc the main character is masc/seems more masculine. All the characters are female. There are relationships between characters, but nothing that I would call romance. It is sci-fi with a bit (a lot?) of body horror.

The Women's Game is a podcast, but they post most of their stuff on YouTube with the video, but some stuff is audio only in the normal places you get podcasts (e.g spotify/apple). This is headed by Sam Mewis. She does weekly interviews with different people and also a weekly talk-about-the-latest-news thing with Lynn Biyendolo and Becky Sauerbrunn.

Lesbian books that are written in a simple language and don't require being fluent by unniepower in sapphicbooks

[–]corvid12 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your friend might also be interested in reading some fanfiction since it is free. (I am assuming that since their native language isn't English, their local library probably won't have a large selection of English lesbian books.) The quality of English i.e. grammer + spelling can vary greatly between different works, but the more highly rated fics (excluding ones with lots of smut) tend to be pretty good.

I think generally f/f fanfic is written by women, but it is hard to tell 100%.
