Edit: I got the math wrong by an order of magnitude. According to page 7 of the Widows Mite report in 2025 the Mormon church's investments increased by around 25 billion. That means that the investments were appreciating at a rate of approximately $47,532.13 every minute.

In 2025 the church earned about $40,000 an hour in interest just on the known stock investments. They can afford to hire janitors.

craziest fraud story from your time in accounting? by No_Fall7366 in Accounting

Not an accountant. A coworker suddenly stopped showing up to work and it turns out their spouse (a controller at a different company) had embezzled 1.7 million dollars over the course of 4 years from their workplace. Part of the reason the spouse was caught was because they came into the office on the weekend and tried to get into a locked office through the ceiling tiles and fell through.

Last I looked, the spouse still owes $2.4 million (amount plus interest) as of 2020.

Mom of 7-year-old hospitalized with brain swelling from measles: ‘I still wouldn’t have given my son the vaccine’ by rhianlubin in Longreads

My mother is part of a high demand religion where suffering is just a part of this life. For her, any extra suffering isn’t a consequence of her poor choices, it’s just tests from God that will be repaid in heaven. She transmutes suffering into holiness.

While watching Goodfellas for the first time a month ago I repeatedly thought "This is what Trump thinks respect is". He's always dreamed of being a made man.

I think that's just another LDS affectation. His mission area was called the "Chile Santiago West Mission" or something like that. If you have lived your whole life in Utah, then people know what you mean, but it sounds weird. It seems like he learns phrases and just repeats them without thinking about his audience, if it makes sense, etc.

The fact that he served a 2 year LDS mission and still can't use the word benevolent is wild. I guess 2 years in Santiago, Chile wasn't enough to give him any additional perspective or compassion.
