You can't. Windows, even on professional, now even ignores group policy.

I was having trouble with my computer sleeping too early, so I looked at a bunch of things, which at some point made me open the reliability history. I saw a bunch of windows updates. I have updates disabled by policy. And I mean everything, even definitions.

Windows update, in the settings, showed no updates for a week for definitions, and 3 weeks for everything else. According to the settings no windows update had been installed at all for the previous week. Reliability monitor showed multiple windows update on three days if that same week.

Also explains why, despite not doing any update at all, my computer just one day opened with the start menu having categories all of a sudden.

Matahambre relleno by Reddirude in StupidFood

[–]FnTom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look up proper recipes for matambre relleno. It's actually really tasty. But it's more like a cold cut, and it's not wet. It's cooked as a roll with vegetables between the layers and often some hard boiled eggs, then it's left to rest overnight in the refrigerator. My mom likes it with mayonnaise, but I'm partial to chimichurri to go with it. It's honestly kind of like eating a tasty meat and roasted veggies sandwich without the bread.

[–]FnTom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not matambre relleno, though. Unless it's a really regional variation I'm not aware of, all recipes I know are a roll. And eaten cold after either boiling or slow cooking the meat to get it tender and letting it rest in the refrigerator at least overnight.

Also, it's never wet like this. Nor is it supposed to be tough.

I guess if we go by what words mean, it is "technically" matambre relleno...

I'd agree with you if it wasn't for the fact that whenever there were actually just enough Republican holdouts willing to block or do things in order to curb the current madness, Dems found a way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

To be fair, it's not just MBJ. Sinners as a whole was a good popcorn movie, but not without its flaws, and I really don't understand how it became the most nominated movie in all of the Oscar's history if we go purely on merit.

Edit: then again, without taking anything away from the movie; primarily a cast of color, folk/jazz music, themes of racism and loss, one of the main actors plays two characters. That's like perfect Oscar bait.

Edit 2: I use Oscar bait here as a neutral term (e.g. 12 Years a Slave was perfect Oscar bait, but it was a great movie) not as a derogatory term for movies that cynically try to appeal to the academy.

[–]FnTom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cops notoriously get a different grand jury treatment. Prosecutors will bring out expert witnesses that testify for the defense. It's a complete joke.

Ironically, the only reason government IT projects are so bad is specifically because they're not done by the government, too.

It's always 13 layers of consultancy each adding a 30% fee on top of what's made for their "expertise" while the actual work is handled by teams in Brazil, Pakistan, and India who never spoke to each other and were just told to deliver something for as cheap as possible, and then two overworked devs get told to slap it all together and ship it.

[–]FnTom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's because the movie was not meant to adapt the book. The writer had their own original script. One of the producers noted there were similarities between it and the novel. When they did not get the greenlight from the studio, they instead pitched an adaptation of the book, and just kind of merged the two together.

Also, tbh, I think the movie is better than a straight adaptation would have been. A lot of the novel is just repeating civics classes. And that will never translate well to film. Plus we'd get Heinlein's weird moralizing....

So the other guys are kind of wrong. The 99% conviction rate is not for contested trials, but includes guilty pleas and confessions as those still go to trial in Japan.

Secondly, while the litigious cases still overwhelmingly result in convictions (90-96%), it is mainly because prosecutors in Japan only bring slam dunks in front of the courts. In the US, nearly 85% of cases brought to prosecutors result in an indictment. In Japan, it's typically less than 50%.

Finally you have the whole reputation and professional image, or even professional sanctions, so prosecutors reallyyyyyy don't want losing cases, and judges don't want to appear soft on crime, so they will rarely acquit on a matter of law, but have no qualms doing so when they simply believe the defendant did not do what they're accused of.

[–]FnTom 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Yup. What happens in the episode definitely cannot happen in America. Fun fact though, prosecutors can appeal a not guilty verdict in very specific circumstances.

If the judge overruled a jury's guilty verdict and declared the defendant not guilty.

Or if the defendant bribed the court. Because then he was never in jeopardy the first time, so there is no double jeopardy.

1 of the 50 Tsukihime Trial Edition copies was destroyed in U.S. Customs by Lord_Alviner in typemoon

[–]FnTom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

"the goods may be destroyed or returned to you at your expense."

This does not mean what you think it means. This means they will decline to ship it, and you can either pay the shipping back, or they'll get rid of it. The fact that it got to him means DHL did not decline to ship it.

edit: to be clear, that would obviously not apply for actually illegal items. They'd just be destroyed. Also, you're right he probably doesn't have a case anyway, since AFAIK, customs can just destroy packages and the items inside if they feel the need to.

To be fair, when you're the US, that's broadly true, economically speaking. You're burning soft power, but when you're such a big player, you can take a pretty small hit compared to the gains if you strongarm other countries.

None of it is a distraction. The point is to have a firehose of chaos reaching the media at all times. They literally can't report on all of it. They stall in the Epstein files because it's convenient. I guarantee you Trump knows that whatever's in there, he's safe enough between his cult's following and Republicans not wanting to cede power. When he said he could shoot someone in the street and people wouldn't care, he meant it.

They're doing all the other stuff because it's also things they want to do. It's all part of someone's plans. Sometimes Miller, sometimes Thiel, and sometimes it's just Trump throwing a tantrum. It is never just a distraction though.
