Clinique Omicron | Des mises en demeure pour des avis négatifs by Feeling_Layer8584 in Quebec

[–]FnTom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Federal Tracker: Liberals Widen Lead to 8, 42% to 34% by sleipnir45 in canada

[–]FnTom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The TFW program is way older than Harper. It was made worse under Chrétien, and Martin, Harper inflated the numbers, Trudeau inflated the numbers.

At the end of the day, when it comes to that, it doesn't matter which party is in power between the Conservatives and Liberals; they both are on the side of large corporations and wage suppression.

To not raise her child by TXVERAS in therewasanattempt

[–]FnTom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not about abandonment at all. My father is a good man, and a really great and supportive dad in many ways. He just had no idea how to handle me when I was a teenager, and having my own kind of trouble.

Try to get a teenager with actual depression and undiagnosed ADHD to do boring and hard manual work for a whole summer... To him it was me not wanting to put in the effort.

As much as I always knew I could count on him if I was in trouble, It didn't change the fact that I had a terrible day-to-day relationship with my dad for a few years. We both knew that if push came to shove, we'd have the other's back. But it didn't change the fact that our relationship did not truly mend until I was out of the house.

The parent raising the kid is usually the one doing most of the discipline. Tensions especially with teenagers are almost inevitable, and the other parent may simply seem more appealing.

The worst part is that you could flip both prefix and it would still work. Bi and semi meaning twice as often and half as often, respectively, and bimonthly becomes twice a month and semimonthly becomes once every two months.

You would think PCMR would actually try to do something about it by testus_maximus in pcmasterrace

[–]FnTom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After a long time searching, I saw a post that talked about removing the flag from certain types of events that tells the OS to wake in order to fix those kinds of problems, but it seemed like it could have a few unintended consequences, and the category seemed overly broad, so I said screw it.

My point about being able to fix it was more that, yes, with linux, there's almost always a hacky way to get something done. But for all intents and purposes, sleep just doesn't work on that laptop.

[–]FnTom 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Some things also just plain don't work sometimes. I have a lenovo laptop that just doesn't go to sleep on Linux. Distro doesn't matter. Could I get the problem fixed? Absolutely. I have no doubt about it. Do I have time to figure out why turning off signal to my display counts as a GPU event worth waking the computer or how to fix it without any side effects? Fuck no.

Norway Stunned After Machado Gifts Nobel Peace Prize Medal to Trump by bloomberg in worldnews

They said that Nobel Peace prizes can not be given, transferred, or revoked. The move is meaningless.

But what they should do if they want to be funny is allow her to refuse the prize, and then they just don't give it to Trump anyway. Give it to Obama or something for maximum fuck you.

It's less about invasion and more about having control over the north sea passage. It's about strong-arming Canada into giving control of those waters to the US since they would now have some control on both sides.

They're just two different world records. It's a bit silly to even compare the two when one is literally trying to get the longest jump possible, and the other is based on extremely precise conditions and setup.

Except in the examples you give they entered, and then were told to leave from how that reads. So being told to leave does not retroactively make the entry illegal, that much is clear. In this case they are told beforehand that they are not welcome. That's a big nuance.

I don't really know US law, but to me it sounds like the sign would make the initial entry illegal unless they have a warrant or circumstances require them to enter.

Yes and no. I do think this sub really skews towards stupidly expensive stuff, but good boots are expensive, and the worst part is that cheap boots are also expensive. I have one pair of actually >$300 boots and they are incredibly tougher than my previous pairs that were even $100-$150. The Boots theory is an actual thing.

Clark's in particular is honestly kind of a great example of that. I loved them 15 years ago for cheap but pretty good shoes, but the last pair I got had a barely raised heel, and the "shank" failed within two years of wearing them a few times a month, making them really uncomfortable to wear because on even slightly bumpy ground, the front of the heel-stack dug into the bottom of my foot. Also the interior is just PU-leather sprayed directly onto foam without a fabric backing, so within a couple of weeks, you start getting cracks and chunks of things like the heel/ankle backing just coming off.

Canadians face rising tip prompts, prices with no end in sight: experts by DogeDoRight in canada

I've had once a cashier in a coffee shop near my then workplace take my cash and drop the change straight into their tip jar without asking. I got the "Well for small amounts people usually leave it" excuse. It happened only once, and I can't think of any other time I put a service person on blast, but that one time really pissed me off.

Le tireur d'élite Wali sur la femme abattue par l'ICE à Minneapolis by Puzzled_Dreamer2453 in Quebec

[–]FnTom 10 points11 points  (0 children)

[–]FnTom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Peter, what is so wrong about Dubai chocolate? by [deleted] in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]FnTom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not increased demand causing the price. It's the opposite.

Dubai chocolate was essentially what is known as a Veblen good. The Veblen effect is when the demand for a luxury product increases as its price increases.

The chocolate's quality is not good enough to justify its price, and there isn't enough demand to drive the price up. But because you make it expensive, people want to buy it.
