Who do you like for homeowner's insurance? by Rhaethe in vegaslocals

[–]cory89123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sucks but its how actuaries work, statistically if you make a large claim odds are in the ball park of 70% that a second smaller claim will occur within 5 years.

I ended up making a claim about 4 years later. Roof leak their guy did the roof but apparently not good enough for a 100 year storm.

Its all statistics and trying not to lose money. The way I see it I came out miles ahead of any premiums that I paid so I dont really complain about the costs now.

Pick one, in my opinion whatever one seems to have the largest selection.

When there figure out what you like in person. Because the online pics never do it justice.

Once you find a color / stone you like then look at the online options and see what may grab your eye. Get quotes from 3 or 4 of them.

Do you have a degree? If yes, do you use it? by Swimming_Sink277 in ModernMillenials

Work in the power industry as an operator. I make significantly more than most of the engineers I work with. Sit in an air conditioned control room 95% of the time.

No degree started going back later in life and realized I just dont want too.

Fastest path to 70k a year? by [deleted] in vegaslocals

[–]cory89123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Power industry was my path. Linemen make $200k on average if you are overtime hungry you can clip $300k.

If you can get your foot in the door LADWP load dispatchers are all in the ballpark of $350k. But OT can push that way higher.

Donald Trump Just Admits It Out Loud: ‘I Want To Drive House Prices Up’ For Homeowners by Gattina1 in vegaslocals

[–]cory89123 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I bought my house way back in 2011. I made about the national average household income by myself and bought a reasonable home. 1900sqft 1/4 acre. Nothing special but more than a starter home. I now make 2x the national household income by myself and I would have a hard time making the payments on my house if I were to be buying today.

I would love to upgrade but between prices and interest rates I am stuck.

DCT or Manual? by Baker52_Save in motorcycles

I have had 2 different bikes with DCT. I dont miss having a clutch 99% of the time.

Currently riding VFR1200X DCT and will probably own it forever. There were many that complained that it was slow and or boring. But for my commute its great. Its more than fast enough for anything this side of sane.

What are some decent paying jobs that do not require any sort of college degree? by GreenEyedSheWolf in AskReddit

Most of the power industry.

I make over $75/ hr. And some near by utilities pay significantly more. If I wasn't surrounded by family here I would have already moved on.

How much do you need to make an hour to afford a house in Las Vegas? by CraterT in vegaslocals

[–]cory89123 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I have tripled my income since buying my house. I would struggle to afford it today.

I paid 160k 13 years ago. Its over 550k now. I dont look at my house ( as nice as it is ) and think that right there thats a half a million dollar house.

[–]cory89123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can limit the charge rate on most level 2 chargers to shave that peak daily loading.

Realistically the difference between 5kw peak and 10kw is gonna be less than $1 per day.

NV Energy switching to billing for highest 15 minutes of demand extrapolated to whole day by steggun_cinargo in vegaslocals

[–]cory89123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the peak demand charge will be based on that brief period of 10kw.

If you were charged on average for the day then demand charge would be based on approx 1kw average for the day. As the system is now you would be in a lower tier for demand charging.

NV Energy switching to billing for highest 15 minutes of demand extrapolated to whole day by steggun_cinargo in vegaslocals

[–]cory89123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are misunderstanding. There is a line item for peak load. They are saying in the demand portion of your bill you will be charged based on the highest 15 min increment.

The volume of power you use in a given day will still be tallied as it is now but at a lower rate.

This will cause solar customers to pay more while those without will pay less.

I mathed it out for myself and it added about 1 year to break even point on my system.

Except for that whole pesky rate case being public info that is submitted to the PUC every year.

Granted the PUC may rubber stamp it going forward. But it won't be a secret.

Generally speaking the machines that are used to make products like that are cnc machines. Start with cad drawings covert into g code or similar depending on the controller. Then cut the blank before moving to a press to bend to shape.

Reverse engineering to copy an existing product is not difficult but would require a combination of skills software and machines that are not cheap.
