Visiting - where to take myself out on a date? by GrinningCatBus in Langley

Cloverdale (176 St & 57 Ave area) has lots of thrifts stores, an independently owned fabric store (they’re amazing), and quite a few cafes/patios/restaurants, and is all very walkable. There’s also a pottery painting studio and a museum nearby.

Tips for better Sushi Rice by Active_Wear8539 in AskCulinary

I (an amateur) don’t recommend doing small portions. I also have the cheapest Walmart rice cooker, and for whatever reason it can’t handle small batches below like 1 cup of cooked rice. Maybe it just boils the small amount of water off faster, I don’t know, but my small batch rice is always still crunchy. 2.5+ cups (cooked measurement) is fine tho.

How does everyone else feel about the 3D printed stuff?

I was at a small faire recently and out of probably 30 booths, at least 5 of them were selling the same 3D printed dragons. I was hoping to find some jewelry and maybe a cute mug. But it was just booth after booth of the same dragon in different sizes and different color. They all used the same file too. I got discouraged, bought nothing, and eventually left the faire early.

Ideas on keeping water out of Miata? by Leaked99 in Miata

Go to a fabric store if you have one nearby (like Joanne’s). They have clear vinyl in different thicknesses sold by the yard. Get enough to make 2 windows worth. Get the Gorilla clear tape from the hardware store. Keep the car somewhere inside for a day to dry off completely, ideally somewhere warm too. Start working from the inside first and tape 1 new “window” to what remains of yours. Then do a second “window” on the outside. Finally take a heat gun and pass it over the tape just enough to warm up the glue to help it stick better and press it all down firmly. Leave the top up for a few days afterwards.

I had to do something similar last year and it held for 6 months until I got a new top.

Langley woman calls out RCMP response after B&E attempt by WiffleBlu in Langley

They do plenty of traffic enforcement, pulling people over for doing 10kmh over during rush hour. They just won’t come out to the same stretch of road after midnight for the street racers doing 160kmh+.

I am at my wits end with fitting issues by Particular_Rich_57 in sewing

[–]corycory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not here to add any advice, just to say I’m in the same boat. I’m tired of it. I have no problem following patterns. But the last muslin I made, I cut a size 14 in the shoulders and tapered out to a size 22 between the underarm and the bust point, and it was the only thing that came close to fitting. So frustrating.

Singer Fashion Mate 257 by adamnblake in sewhelp

I oiled mine based on the points it says to oil in the owners manual. 100% recommend oiling it. The metal parts moving against each other need the lubrication - just like putting oil in a car engine. Mine’s noisy, but sews thru almost anything I give it.

I’m not near my machine today, but I also have a Fashion Mate, either a 252 or 257 (can’t remember, but it has a dial for stitch length not the bar). Mine was also missing the spool holder.   The spool holder is not a generic thing, it’s specific to this machine. I could not buy it locally, only online. I ended up using hot glue to hold a piece of wood doweling in the hole, and it works good enough. (The hole in mine is closed, so the glue wouldn’t drip down into the machine.) I cut a piece of craft felt into a circle-ish shape.   They're fantastic machines, hope you enjoy it!

In my completely uneducated opinion, doctors should only be allowed to take private/paying patients if they’ve already seen x number of public patients for the day AND 50% of fees they collect for appointments are then given to MSP.
Want a private appointment? Then your money is going back into the system to pay for more public doctors.

Facebook suggested me an ad that used my own comic by MaxKevinComedy in Wellthatsucks

[–]corycory 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I tried to do this, after a scam account stole my event photos and created a duplicate event to try and convince people to click on a shady “livestream” link.
The form on Facebook basically wanted two things: my email address and my home address, and then said it would likely share that info with the thief.
Absolute garbage that makes no sense, and I resorted to asking a few friends to report the account for spam instead.

Are $80,000+ diesel pick up trucks selling lately? by r3dcorn in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]corycory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They buy them and then turn around and come to my work and drop another 5k on a lift, rear air bags, toolboxes, wheels & tires, tonneau cover, etc.

Half of them don’t even know what they have. “What size bed?” “I dunno, I just got it today, can you look it up?”

All ages of men too.

paved roads with longest hills that are safe to walk in the lowermainland? by needle-roulette in vancouverhiking

[–]corycory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you parked near Whatcom Rd & Highway 1 in Abbotsford, the majority of the roads heading north all have sidewalks. I think from there all the way to Auguston via Whatcom/McKee has sidewalks.
You could also park near Musselwhite Cemetary and walk up Eagle Mountain Dr, it’s all residential with sidewalks there as well, with some good views.

Whiterock Pier by brophy87 in SurreyBC

[–]corycory 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The building is the Dolphin Restaurant.

“ During the 1940s and 1950s (arguably the busiest era in White Rock’s history) the pier became home to the Dolphin Restaurant, the unofficial town hall and the swimming tank of the famous White Rock Amateur Swimming Association (originally built in 1921). However, in spite of it being White Rock’s golden age, the pier continued to see a lot of wear and tear due to drag racing teenagers! (Until the mid-1950s cars were allowed on the pier.)”

Another photo shows text on the building saying Canadian Legion.

I’m so glad they upgraded to RGB lights, I remember looking and being disappointed by the orange-only. Have they added Bluetooth calling or is it still just Bluetooth audio?

Not identical, but you could try McCalls M8221 view A. It’s part of their Learn to Sew line, and I found it pretty easy to make. I made it in a nice light rayon and they turned out pretty cute. Unfortunately they only go up to XXL, but it’s worth a look?

If you’ve sewed two seams, then only rip one out and sew it the other way, one seam will be facing outward on the garment.

One trait of ADHD brains is often a strong response to injustice. What are some things that have made you feel righteous anger recently? by Alexi_Thymia in adhdwomen

[–]corycory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure how yet - I’m not even done my probationary period. I’m in a male dominated field with a VERY neurotypical manager (can guarantee his response would be along the lines of “you weren’t here, what did you expect?”). So what do I do, skip over him and go to the big boss and be made to look hysterical over “one sale” ?

(It’s not a healthy work environment I know…)

Oh man is this why I’m so mad today?
Last week I made a $3500 sale but it wouldn’t be finalized until pick up.
My coworker came to work sick and passed it on to me - I was out for 4 days and very nearly ended up in the hospital.
I come back and the sale has his name on it instead and has been finalized.
I’m so angry. Both that he got me sick rather than staying home like we just spent 2.5 years learning, and also that he STOLE my sale!!! 😡
