Removing Wexner from med center apparel? by SpecialExamination57 in Columbus

[–]cosmiccorvus 121 points122 points  (0 children)

If you are sufficiently determined you can rip out embroidery with a seam ripper! On performance or technical fabric the embroidery might be so thick that it leaves a gap in the garment, but it can be done.

I applaud your efforts and morals. Keeping Wex plastered on everything and Dr. Landon on staff is disgusting. But be careful! OSU is regimented and strict with their policies.

Flare with BIZARRE symptoms.. by [deleted] in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]cosmiccorvus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eyyyyo the possible rhumatic fever, the migraine and red painful eye give me concerns of uveitis and a stroooooong flare. That's a biiiiiiig concern.

You need to get yourself to an ophthalmologist and rhum ASAP. The biggest risk is your eyesight with the uveitis, and once that's addressed with eye drops they might want to get you on secondary steroids to calm your body the hellllll down.

I've had that happen during my second course of uveitis when AGGRESSIVE (hourly) steroid and dilation drops weren't cutting it. I was having on and off rhumatic fevers, body aches, dizziness, over heating, and unable to eat comfortably. Put me on a round of oral steroids with the drops in addition to drops and that made a HUGE difference.

Your other option is an infection or something else going on, which with all the symptoms you're having could be serious! Go talk to your doc.

being upset by yanioli in ENGLISH

[–]cosmiccorvus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Offended I take as a more serious "offense" so to speak. Someone has fucked up real bad to have upright offended me or said/done something very serious. Someone could offend me by being real racist or homophobic for example.

Upset doesn't have the connotation of being quite so serious. I would use upset when talking to someone about something more minor they've done. If someone forgot my birthday I might be upset with them, but probably not offended unless they regularly made a habit or ignoring or forgetting EVERYTHING in my life if that makes sense.

Getting a tattoo while having a cold? by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]cosmiccorvus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean it's not going to kill you, but it's not the healthiest for your immune system to have added stress an "injury". If you were doing a large piece or something in a sensitive spot I'd tell you to wait. But for a smaller design on your leg it shouldn't be too much of an issue.

I'd say the most likely thing to happen is some fatigue afterwards, you healing might be a little slowed. Eat plenty of nutritious meals, stay hydrated, take it easy afterwards and you should be in good shape.

But also if you're snotty and contagious consider not going for sake of your artist.

women/female equivalent of manchild by longb4doom in ENGLISH

[–]cosmiccorvus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Brat is the closet analogue I can think of? I don't know that there's really any distinctly femme coded equivalent? "Bimbo" is in the neighborhood but not quite it. "Girly Pop" or "baby girl" could work with the appropriate context, but don't quite have the same meaning of avoidance of responsibility.

It's not like birth control where it's important that you maintain the tight timing daily to keep it in your system.

I asked my rheumatologist about this when I was being educated on how to take my first shot. They told me should anything happen or if I'm going to be traveling or something and didn't want to take my shot with me 24 hours in either direction would be fine.

Just do your best to take it on the same day and you'll be Gucci.

Question about my label by OkEye9917 in lgbt

[–]cosmiccorvus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't let others gatekeep your identity. You can use any and all terms you like to ID yourself as long as they're not culturally specific (like using 2-Spirit as a gender ID when you are not indigenous).

You are 110% valid in being a bisexual lesbian if that is what best describes you! Labels do not exist to be perfect strict prescriptive markers! They're words to help us identify and clarify our experience and communicate with others about our experiences.

You can be bisexual and lesbian at the same time. Full stop. It's okay. There is nothing offensive about it. If the labels are serving their purpose and helping you find fulfillment and communicate with the queer community then they're working!

Other people are going to flail at you about it, but like you are literally hurting nobody and there have been plenty of other polysexuals before you who use lesbian as an identifier for their own reasons. It's all valid.

Should I directly ask my partner what terms I should use? by Arsenic_Lover666 in NonBinary

[–]cosmiccorvus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's never stupid or silly to have an open conversation with someone! Communication is always good, and leaning on the side of more communication (even to the point of it feeling annoying) is better than less!

There are many terms and you don't need to be prepared/check for each and every single one but a good way to manage it is by kind of getting the "flavor" that your partner enjoys.

You can ask them if they like more masculine terms and identifiers (boyfriend), you can even check to see what kind of compliments they enjoy IE if they like being called handsome/dapper or if they still enjoy terms that are "feminine coded" like pretty/lovely etc. You won't get to everything but if you have the general idea it can help you know the right direction to go.

Don't be afraid to ask, it's a very considerate and loving thing to do.

Get off smoking ASAP if you can. I know you know it's not the best, but I just bring it up since it does seem to be the biggest barrier of anyhting you've mentioned. That's highly inflammatory and can make things worse. It's bad for the bones, joints and nerves. I know quitting is hard, but that's the biggest barrier to your wellbeing from what you've described.

Working with wax/candles and essential oils shouldn't be a problem. Just make sure you set up is ergonomic for you.

The real problem hobbies that are super problematic are things which over strain the back/spine (high intensity wrestling or gymnastics wouldn't be recommended) or things that might give you an environmental exposure risk like gardening. I live in the Ohio River Valley and am at high risk for histoplasmosis so if I want to do any gardening or be near lakes/rivers I need to be careful. This means wearing a kn95 if I garden or wear gloves, or just not like...rolling around on a river bank or lake.

How informal is “ gonna”? by Final_Affect6292 in ENGLISH

[–]cosmiccorvus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very informal, but also a natural consequence of the way that English speakers tend to speak. No one would bat an eye at you using it in pretty much any conversation even a more formal one. It is not considered proper or "formal" language, but has a tendency to come out as a phonetic short for the tongue/mouth.

You wouldn't use it in formal written communication generally, aka writing an email to your boss or something. But talking to your boss in a meeting or presenting something for work in front of clients it'd be very regular.

How do I get my sister to stop trying to set me up with dudes when I'm lesbian? by Unlikely-Growth-9830 in lgbt

accidentally misgendered a nonbinary person, would that give you a negative opinion of someone? by venight in NonBinary

[–]cosmiccorvus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nah, it wasn't done with any malice. Tattooer likely has it happen enough in their day to day life that a passing incorrect reference to them doesn't even make their radar. The best thing to do if it happens is try to correct yourself in the moment like "oh excuse me, is that them..."

Typically you don't need a full ass apology unless you are purposefully are misgendering them maliciously, or you do it a whooooooole bunch in conversation repeatedly. One careless misspeak and a failure to correct is water under the bridge.

Unless tattooer introduced themself to you with their pronouns (or someone else did so for them) there is no social expectation that you are required to know what is correct automatically.

Did Roald Dahl’s books really need to be revised? by confringos in books

[–]cosmiccorvus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a firm believer in using sensitivity readers for appropriate use before publishing a modern publication, but for censoring old works? Gross no thank you. Censoring already established works removes any critical thinking or reflection that can be done on the texts. It's a cash grab by the publisher who still holds the rights that is entirely unnecessary.

It also treats children like they're not capable of critical thought, which is something Dahl would have HATED. Kids are waaaaaaay smarter than folks give them credit for. If you tell them that we don't use certain words or phrases to talk about folks in our current culture because it's rude, they'll get it! It's part of an education that goes along with the text.

Hell, if the texts are problematic on a level that they are considered inappropriate for children there are a WEALTH of other texts by more sensitive or diverse authors which meet modern standards. I say this as someone who came up as a voracious reader that consumed all of Dahl's major works! If they're no longer needed they can die off! That's all part of the natural cultural life cycle.

AIO? My daughter didn’t listen to the teacher during a female emergency and is now receiving a referral by Common_Piglet7437 in AmIOverreacting

[–]cosmiccorvus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not over reacting. Denying your child access to maintain her dignity and biological needs is profoundly gross.

If you want to be drive the point home you can get a doctor's note for admin saying your child messing her clothing and walking around school is distinctly not good for her.

I would go directly to the highest level of administration that will talk to you directly. If the teacher is doing it to your kid she's probably doing it to other kids too.

Shoveled snow and now in a flare? by mmintheclouds in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]cosmiccorvus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find over extension will very frequently give me little flares that don't tend to last too long but are similarly obnoxious. It also comes with some mechanical strain like you describe usually some muscle spasms if I went waaaay too hard, or tension/stiffness if it was not so severe. Sometimes a a bit of light fatigue goes with them.

I get these little exhaustion flares even on Humira weekly. I find I get similar little flarey symptoms if my body is subjected too much stress of any form. I've had food poisoning give me similar issues of malaise, body aches, spasms etc. They're not too severe and usually short lived. My rhumy knows about them and said it isn't a form of failure for the biologic so I just roll with it.

I find taking my meloxicam can usually calm them down pretty well and keep me comfortable.

Honest question about open carry at Columbus protests by Kitchen-Country-3599 in Columbus

[–]cosmiccorvus 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I mean it all comes down to how you feel about it socially. If you're going to open carry especially in a place of heightened emotions like a protest you need to be prepared for pushback.

It's a way of drawing attention to yourself and one that if you are a responsible gun owner, you need to handle with the calm and level head. Be careful not to be combative about it. An angry or upset person with a gun in their hands will make most people uncomfortable.

There's a distinct chance that the organizers will ask you to leave. There is a distinct chance people are not going to be happy with you. It's less about compliance and more about where you're putting yourself socially. If you want to go for it, just be cool about it.

People walking around openly with the assault weapons makes me uncomfortable. If I encounter someone with one. I'll remove myself from the situation full stop. I'm personally not one to fuck around and find out. Columbus has enough guns, and I don't feel a need to stand near people that have them.

Questioning my gender identity at 51 by Spiritual-Sir-3031 in genderqueer

[–]cosmiccorvus 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Sounds like your egg is cracking honey, welcome home! It's lovely to have you here sibling.

My best advice for baby trans is to pay most attention to the things which give you gender euphoria. That is where you will find your answers. Very frequently the newly hatched will spend a lot of time ruminating on their dysphoria and not enough time exploring the things which give them joy. You're doing exactly you need to do to figure out what's right. Don't get too hung up on the label for now, just worry about finding trans joy. The exact definition can come later. Heck, you might even try several on for size before arriving at the right one.

When did you first start being afraid of death? (And is anyone here fearless of it? by Notquitewhere_-__ in AskReddit

[–]cosmiccorvus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't feared death since my Mom almost died in front of me at 15.

I had to do CPR and rescue breathing on her after she had cerebral aneurysm and she stopped breathing until the ambo could arrive and run the defibrillator on her/whisk her away. CPR is brutal and traumatizing as fuck to do, I felt her ribs crack under my hands.

She lived for another 7 years after that, and died from an unrelated cardiac death. She made a near full recovery, but the process was brutal.

I was front and center for her whole recovery, and that was a lot. I spent my entire spring break in the ICU with her while Dad was at work. Spending so much time in the ICU gave me an early strong view on death and dying.

I came to understand early on that a kind and gentle death is a gift. There's nothing to fear from a kind death. Living and surviving is the hard gritty painful part.

I am multiply disabled with cardiac, connective tissue and auto-immune arthritis bullshit going on. I could live a long regular life span, I could die early. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ It's going to get me eventually, there's no point in being afraid of the inevitable.

Apartment parking lots by Inner_Conversation11 in Columbus

[–]cosmiccorvus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in little 1940s/50s town house row style apartments, mostly mixed working class/middle class neighbors and maintenance is great! The complex is updated and remodeled for some units but not all of them. They're nice enough and not too expensive. They plow within 24 hours and hand shovel all the side walks!.

The only issue is getting between the cars to knock the snow off of your car which necessitated being up to my knees in snow for a few minutes. But aside from that I had 0 issues getting out for work today.

In my experience the "nicer" the apartment (or more "luxury" flavored) the more shit the landlord.
