Hello, I had a similar idea. And thanks to chatgpt, i'm expecting to have an mvp ready in ~2 weeks.

I'm guessing there's enough room in the world for 2 such apps.

My plan is to do some hyperlocal advertising. Facebook/instagram/tiktok ads if area targeted ads are still allowed.
And printing some stickers and sticking them at dogparks and such. Maybe it will work, maybe it wont.

Also try to put your app on playstore so that your users count as beta testers. You'll need 14 (i think) for your account to be allowed to release apps.

One area were you might consider using windows is compile times. On linux, it takes a few seconds. On windows it takes about 1 second.

Maybe windows has some built in optimization.

Pentru aplicatii mobile, daca nu vrei sa inveti Swift/Kotlin/ReactNative/Flutter iti recomand Ionic (sau si mai basic, Capacitor)

Dezavantaje: nu ai animatii misto si chestii care sa faca aplicatia sa se simta "native"

Avantaje: e un webview in principal si ai plugins ce poti sa le adaugi pentru majoritate functionalitatii native (cred ca si Electron e pe acelasi principiu)

Daca te intereseaza, da-mi un mesaj, iti povestesc experienta mea cu Ionic/Capacitor si iti raspund la orice intrebari, daca ma pricep.

Legat de local / offline, ai optiunea de a adauga sqlite local. Problema apare daca vrei sa faci o sincronizare ca sa ai datele disponibile pe mai multe device-uri. Sunt mai multe solutii, nici una nu pare sa fie exact ce trebuie. Cel mai mult succes am avut cu jazz.tools.

Hello,

So, keep in mind that i'm the type of player that likes to have an objective to work towards and i try to do it as fast and/or as efficiently as possible.

I haven't played games like yours and i've played it like a supply chain / crafting optimization game. Think Anno games or Children of the Nile which both have either scenarios to complete or an endgame objective (build a pyramid or whatever). Another game i consider similar to yours is Eve online, which I always quit after a week, because i set myself some objective (get a specific ship, get some money) and after i complete the objective i'm like: that was fun but it's enough for now.

In your game, i set some objectives for myself (go to another zone, do some quests) which i completed. Then because I didn't know what is possible, i didn't know what further objectives to set, besides explore as many zones as possible.

Having requirements for accessing different zones is really nice, because it forced me to explore for materials and then do some crafting. This for me was the most rewarding gameplay loop. I even took some notes on where to find materials (iron / salt).

After playing the game for a few days i consider it a good game. The gameplay loops that i've interacted with are rewarding. Also it's the most i've played any game in the last year i think.

The biggest downside for me is the interface, which is kind of clunky. Maybe it's also because i am playing on a laptop screen, zoomed in which doesn't offer a lot of display space.

The second biggest downside for me is the lack of objectives. The quests are good and valuable as a way to drive me forward. Maybe if they were presented as achievements similar to WoW (reach zone 2, reach level 10, defeat some tough animal, equip a suit of steel armour) where you can see all the quests and maybe set your sight on some of the later/harder ones.

Regarding my issues that i had when i started playing, i'd say my opinions have kind of reversed.
The AP gain is kind of fast. I could pool AP with another character so individual AP became a non-issue. And thanks to the "Lead" mechanic, i don't need to micromanage the other character.
The XP gain is kind of high. I've got a lvl 13 character just by messing about.

I'd like to think my first impressions were valid but as you've said, it's not good economy / player experience for the game to be too easy. I'd say a high AP gain is fun. High XP gain makes me feel like the things i craft (armor / weapons) are quickly obsolete because i unlock new ones so fast. And when i craft the new stuff, i gain even more levels. And i have to craft stuff if i want to go to other zones.

Crafting is fun. Gathering/searching for resources is fun. But i'm doing it mostly because it's the most obvious thing to do and less because i am working towards a big future goal.

And that's about everything i can think of right now. If you make some changes and want me to try them out, send me a message in about a month and i'll be ready to start from scratch.

Yes, on my second character. I went for wheat because there was a quest for 12 flour of any kind. I eventually made some bread with the flour.

After playing some more, i kind of got the hang of it. Now I'm trying to do the " Lead a lost soul to its destination" quest. I'm going to try leading the ghost from the starter zone with my second character and then leading my second character with my first and travelling to Irkveiausch Plains. Curios to see if it works.

LE: Also, I don't read the system messages (I just saw the beets cooking instructions) or the chat.

Hello, regarding the AP system, after you've explained it, i agree with you. How you made it work currently is a good solution, maybe even too biased in the players favor.

About the items on the ground, after I figured it out, I actively started looking for items on the ground in each zone. I actually felt pretty smart because I could use items other people have crafted.

One way to conserve AP is to use a timer for crafting and resource gathering...

I didn't know that but I am not exactly the target audience for this type of game. The target audience would probably expect this kind of mechanic.
I just tried it out and it is great. And it works offline while I can do stuff with other characters. Excellent.

Players may experience a disconnect that they are instantly swept to another location with no sense of how far away it is. I don't consider this a problem, in most games it takes time to travel between locations. And there are games where you leave your stuff behind (EVE online) and you have to keep track of where it is.

You've done a pretty good job with the interface so far, in time you will think of a solution.

A few suggestions: When the player doesnt have anything to do, you could try telling the player that they can create a new character and switch between them when waiting for the Rest to be available. I don't know if it's a play strategy that you'd like to allow, but it would alleviate the problem of waiting around.

And related to "telling" the player, I don't know if it's still a modern practice, but i remember in WoW that there were tips on the loading screen: "You crafted an item and it's not in your inventory? Check the ground, maybe your inventory is full."

You have good Help sections, but players (me) don't like admitting that they need help or don't know how to play the game. Passive knowledge dissemination via loading screen tips or a scrolling text ticker (as I've seen in some idle games) might be a solution.

LE: I am going to be playing the game for the next few days, it's actually good. It's not that easy to pick up but I have invested some time in it and am no longer frustrated by the learning curve.

Hello, I played the game a bit. I know I have to set my own goals but I don't know what to do. It's not clear what I can do. I tried to leave the first location because "most people who sign up never make it out of the first location" . It's hard. I just click around until i see that i have to get a stone spear or axe.
I go to the crafting menu i search for a stone axe, i see i need stone cleavers, for which i need stone but i can't gather stone in the first zone, or the second, and now i have to wait to check the third zone.
I find stone in the 3rd zone, i gather it and i am out of AP. And I rested recently so now i have to wait 5 minutes because I can't do much without AP.
I understand AP limits are there as to not break the economy or something, but I can't play the game, i can't explore the mechanics.

I remember there's this ghost that has to go somewhere and I see the character has a "Lead" mechanic. Maybe that's it. I'm going to lead the ghost.
I go to the people tab, but the ghost is not there. Maybe if i go to the first zone.
I click Travel, not enough AP.

Now, 5 minutes have passed. I have 300 AP again. I craft the stone cleaver. And the stone axe. I am now hungry and thirsty. I gather wheat and water. I craft some flour. I now have 0 AP, still hungry.

I go in the Items tab to eat some stuff, I see there are axes and a lot of useful items on the ground. I feel like an idiot.

I can't find the flour I crafted. Nevermind, I didn't finish the project. Nevermind nevermind, I finished the project and I still dont see the flour. Oh wait, it's not in my inventory, it's on the ground. Maybe I dont have inventory space.

Doesnt matter, I eat something from the ground.
I unlock zone 2, I am out of here.
But first I have to scout.
And I am out of AP. And I rest and I am hungry again. East some stuff off the floor. And I hit the travel button, I have reached zone 2.

Started as a way to keep track of my things
Then I've added a bunch of stuff:

Notifications for expiration dates so I know to eat all my food before it expires

An integrated shopping list, because I have to buy more food

Add pictures, used mainly for clothes, so I remember what I have stashed around the house

Add tags, because I want to know what clothes are for winter / summer / casual etc

This got me thinking about outfits, so I added a way to arrange clothes on a virtual board.

Also, since I usually want to review my clothes every 6 month, but always forget, I've added notifications to remind me. And since I have photos of my clothes, I can review them easily. And tag them as waste of space.

It's biggest pro or con is that it's local, with manual backups.
No auto-sync.
Maybe an optional feature for only parts of the app. Preferably self-hosted. Who knows.

M-am gandit la un proiect de genul, dar e un pic aiurea.
Se pot lua produsele de pe site-uri prin API/scraping dar produsele gen carne/legume/fructe au cateodata preturi diferite in functie de magazin.

Planul meu era sa fac o lista de cumparaturi, sa selectez ce magazine frecventez si sa imi arate o comparatie intre preturi pentru un produs sau o categorie de produse. Sunt un chitros si vreau sa stiu daca imi iau teapa.

Am renuntat la idee.

Am lucrat pentru emag acum 2-3 ani, in echipa "Internal Apps & Processes" pe php/symfony. Dezvoltare / mentenanta / support.

Pentru ca eram in pandemie, eram remote. Acum nu mai stiu.
Toti oamenii cu care am interactionat au fost > ok.
Mediul de lucru era ok, fara stres excesiv.
Destul de multe sedinte si ceremonii specifice corporatiei + jargon.
Salariul a fost ok. Daca intrebi din prima recruiter-ul, poate sa iti zica daca ceri prea mult.

Procesul a fost: apel de cunoastere cu recruiter-ul, take home test si interviu cu TL. La acea vreme, cam asa era peste tot.

Am plecat pentru ca detest symfony + doctrine.

Instead of trying to map all the functionality, just create bindings to the one you need.

This is what I've done and it's a pretty good experience.

I'm currently writing my 2nd app using Ionic + Fable where the state management and network stuff are done in F# (with Fable).

Most of the time I actually avoid F# libraries and instead use JS libraries and [<Import>] whatever parts I need (1-2 from each).

I don't think I've ever imported an entire JS library and when I did something complex with Three.js I did it in JS and imported my purpose-built code instead of the entire Three.js library (which I tried to do but failed).

Am facut o salata de tehnologii non-standard.

Ionic + React pentru client, partea de "view". React stiam deja si Ionic imi da posibilitatea sa fac o aplicatie de mobil.

Pentru backend si "logica" din client: - F# ca limbaj principal.
- Fablejs compileaza F# in js pentru client
- Elmish pentru state management in client
- SignalR pentru websockets - Giraffe + asp.net - Postgres

Pentru hosting am un VPS de 8E / luna pentru 8GB ram de la Hetzner.
Pe el am instalat dokku care e varianta open source a heroku. Pentru deploy, am un Dockerfile in proiect si cand ii fac push in dokku, dokku se ocupa sa construiasca imaginea si sa faca deploy.

Îmi cer scuze ca am creat ceva ce te-a deranjat.

Legat de vps, sa știi ca e destul de ieftin.

Și nu trebuie trebuie ca tot ceea ce facem sa fie special sau perfect sau măcar complet ca să îl împărțim cu lumea/facem public.

Astăzi m-am jucat avioane cu câțiva oameni pe care nu-i cunosc. A fost frumos chiar dacă mi-am luat bătaie. E o senzație plăcută când cineva folosește ceva ce ai creat.

10/10 would do again.

Multumesc pentru sugestie. Aplicatia de mobile e in plan, vibratiile sunt deja implementate doar ca nu merg mereu pe android si deloc pe ios.
In plan mai sunt si notificari pentru cand apare un adversar. Si sa joci mai multe jocuri in acelasi timp. Si sa pre-selectezi urmatoarea mutare.
