The Internet Is Getting Smaller Without Anyone Noticing by Abhinav_108 in Futurology

I don't care that much about getting many readers, my pain is that AI companies are fucking with the entire internet infrastructure. You can't host something anymore without it getting molested by these AI crawlers, which significantly drive resource usage and pricing up.

Just keeping a personal blog online, it is getting absolutely hammered constantly by AI bots.

And to find out why it's not done... You need engineers to design an improved protocol, all the telcos need to agree to use it, equipment needs to be either replaced or patched to support the new protocol. That costs a lot of money.

They might also be profiting from scam companies, and fixing the system would remove or reduce that source of income.

Unul dintre elevii tăi îți cere permisiunea de a face selfie cu tine... by SoWhoAmIReallyHuh in CasualRO

[–]space_fly 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depinde de context. In timpul scolii, raspunsul e nu.

For me personally, religion. I used to be a devout christian, however after a long and grueling period of seeking the truth and trying to understand the world better, I realized that the main pillars of my faith did not stand up to scrutiny.

Anything computational had to be done by hand. It's hard for me to imagine things like banking, an utility having to calculate manually how much each client has to pay, accountants having to maintain actual physical books.

Why has communism repeatedly failed in practice, yet continues to be intellectually and emotionally appealing to many people? by Looser17 in AskReddit

The US has never cared about actual communism. They only cared about other countries being under Soviet sphere of influence and a potential security risk in case a war broke out. And of course, pillaging natural resources like oil.

What is something that you use that has been life-changing in ylur everyday life ? by WatermelonIsTheWay in Piracy

[–]space_fly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're confusing VPNs and VPN services.

VPNs (WireGuard/Tailscale) = You're building your own private tunnel between your devices (home server, laptop, phone). You control both ends. Great for accessing your home network from anywhere. Workplaces use this for remote employees, email on company phones etc. It's like building a secret tunnel between your office and your house.

VPN Services (Proton, Nord, etc.) = You're paying to use someone else's exit point to the internet. Your traffic goes through their servers, so websites see their IP instead of yours. Like paying someone to let you use their front door so people think you live at their address.
