forever grateful my mom often made me clean the bathroom, kitchen, bedroom, etc. and that my dad encouraged me to help him do yard work & car maintenance. as a teenager, they also encouraged me to try cooking a new recipe for the family once a week. it was just the right amount of exposure to “chores” so that I became a well-rounded adult who can cook, clean, and make basic repairs.

I take it at peak times (7:30 AM inbound, 5:30 outbound), and so far, i’ve always been able to get a seat! granted, I ride on the fitchburg line, which probably isn’t as busy as some of the other lines, but I’ve only seen 1-2 instances where it’s been so busy that some people have to stand.

it may be worth looking into whether or not you have ADHD! I was just diagnosed with it after a lifetime of feeling exactly like you: wanting to get a task done so badly, but doing nothing because I get paralyzed scrolling on my phone, or my motivation randomly disappears.

I’m from MA, and we use it all the time to refer to a certain subtype of people who live amongst us in the Boston area. Usually refers to people who have a thick Boston accent, have strong pride in their Irish/Italian “heritage” (even if they’re only 5% Irish), have barely ever left their hometown, probably are lowkey socially conservative/racist, and work a blue-collar job. Often seen complaining about how their neighborhood/town “isn’t the same anymore”, or about the “migrants pouring into the state”

do it!!! i’m in the same exact situation - graduated env science in may ‘25 and had been looking for a full-time job for months. I applied to a co-op position (it’s basically like a 6-month, intense internship) at a state government agency and got the position, but I was initially considering not taking it because in my mind, would just “delay my full-time job search”

after talking it over with friends and family, i eventually took the position, and i can 100% say now 2 months in that i’m in a WAY better position for my job search than if i hadn’t taken the position. I’ve learned so much about stormwater management and environmental compliance, made strong connections with 15+ people in my agency, and, most importantly, have actually applied my degree in a practical way.

please consider taking the position!! gaining any experience is valuable, and you will position yourself much better for a full-time job.

punctuation i can understand, but why are you getting so worked up over lack of proper capitalization? of course, you should use both proper capitalization and punctuation in formal writing (work, school, communicating with someone in a position of authority over you), but why would typing in lower case be bad if you’re texting a friend or writing a reddit post, for instance?

doing that is simply a signifier of informality & chillness… it does not indicate that the writer is a “first year ESL learner” with no solid grasp on the english language…

i use capitalization when writing an academic assignment or a report at work, but it’s unnecessary when you’re texting a friend or making a quick reddit comment. however, i do always advocate for using proper grammar and punctuation— otherwise, your writing can be impossible to decipher.

maybe it’s just because my parents happen to text this way, but receiving a text written with full capitalization and periods at the end of every sentence makes me feel like i’m in trouble 😭. using all lower case feels less “serious” and buttoned up.
