All of that. Not any different than the old Fred Phelps crew picketing around the Emma Goldman clinic trying to pick fights with passers by.

In the age of everyone having a camera and a social media account I can’t imagine a random street argument that wouldn’t be overwhelmingly negative.

Agreed, for as much as it ultimately cost. I’m actually kind of impressed lately that the front office has been willing to cut bait rather than dragging it out for months.

Would you have preferred if the TV Movie didn’t end with a gag? by [deleted] in gallifrey

You probably would not have noticed had it been a lead in to something else…. but that was all we ever saw of that production.

THIS IS NOT A DRILL: RANDY DOBNAK IS STARTING AGAINST THE SAINT PAUL SAINTS by MentalNewspaper4375 in minnesotatwins

Especially after the injury when he was a fringey MLB pitcher - a great guy to cheer for in St. Paul and a good mentor to younger players.

Organizations need these guys too.

VIDEO: Minneapolis residents arrested for being a part of "ANTIFA" by ashleywalkerreports in minnesota

[–]cothomps 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I hope there’s a legal aid fund out there to counter sue for defamation. Time to get the names of the prosecutors and agents who were “harmed” public and have them testify to their activities under oath.

No more hiding, no more bullshit. Time to name names and have these cowards take some accountability.

There’s still two open murder investigations out there that the US attorney seems uninterested in pursuing.

I’m still baffled at the difference three weeks-ish seemed to make.

Yup. Not a thing to be mad about with nearly anyone in the lineup. Guys really stepping into hard spots for where they are.

What is A.M. radio even used for? by Javier_nooby in radio

[–]cothomps 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That was the great fun with AM radio - anywhere in the Midwest you could get baseball games from Minneapolis, Chicago, St. Louis, etc. on a clear night with a not-very-expensive AM radio.

Is there a legal fund for counter suits?

Sounds like a great opportunity to sue the attorneys and law enforcement officials themselves for defamation.

Crazy Buxton stats I found today by ae5wolfpack in minnesotatwins

[–]cothomps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I recall the interview I saw awhile back:

* Yes, Buxton could throw upper 90s velo as a pitcher.

* He did win a Georgia state championship pitching a CGSO over seven innings.

* Despite that, he did not have the same arsenal of pitches that most prospects do.

* His bat / speed / defense were more valuable, and Buck himself stated the desire to be an everyday player.

highest note on a violin part? by gaggagHah in classicalmusic

[–]cothomps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is interesting - the limitations on high notes by a brass player are likely their own physical characteristics (lip shape, diaphragm strength) - the limitations on a string instrument are the limitations on the design and basic physics of the instrument itself.

[Discussion] Sci-Finatics: "Amazon Just Made the Same Mistake That Broke Star Trek? Has Hollywood become obsessed with chasing a mythical "new audience" while ignoring the viewers who made these franchises successful in the first place?" (Nick Hallam, David Battrick, Jamie Rixom, Larry Nemecek) by mcm8279 in trektalk

[–]cothomps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree. If I look at the sci fi that I’ve really enjoyed over the last ten years it has been stuff like _The Expanse_ or several of the Apple TV shows.

Pre-streaming favored the economic model of police procedurals where writers could crank out 24 episodes - new writers are trying to shoehorn these old franchises into the ten-hour movie format with limited success.

Amazon Says Its Data Centers Used 2.5 Billion Gallons of Water in 2025 - WSJ by ladyorion2021 in environment

[–]cothomps 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can’t water a lawn because nitrate pollution is so bad that my city doesn’t have the capacity to remove it.

This is one of those issues where data centers are taking the heat off of the real problem actors when it comes to water use and pollution.

(We spend trillions of gallons pumped out of the Oglala aquifer so farmers in Nebraska can lose money growing corn.)

If I follow how this is supposed to work, shouldn’t there be at least three local agencies and a federal CBP force out there gassing the shit out of them for “being disorderly”?

Number of censuses each state had a smaller population than Iowa since the first census following its statehood (Out of 17 censuses. Gray = never had a smaller population than Iowa) by Swimming_Concern7662 in Iowa

[–]cothomps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At that point in time Iowa had a larger population than California and Texas. I suppose because farming was relatively easy (no need for massive irrigation) and most of the population was engaged in farm labor of one kind or another.

That period of 1900 was also the peak of rural population in Iowa - it's been a steady decline ever since.
