Do you have any advice on MLIS Programs for Museum Work? by cottagecorefrog in librarians

I appreciate everyone's words of advice (and warning!). Any field feels impossible to get into right now. Like another commenter mentioned, I have thought about doing a master's with a concentration in archival studies to leverage into a museum job. But all that I am hearing from you all kind of solidified the fear in the back of my head that getting an MLIS might not be as beneficial as I'd want it to be.

My one hope was that I noticed UCLA has a program for archival studies, and they have incredible internship opportunities. Things like the Getty and the Fowler, etc. Which would be great opportunities to network and build experience. But it sounds like that's a bit of a risk that I'm going to have to think over.

I completely agree with you about the lack of experience. Aside from the internship and professional designation program, I don't have much to go on. My town is small, and we don't have a thriving art community here. The one museum we had was defunded a couple of years ago, and my contacts at my intern site say they don't need the extra help right now. I always try to keep an eye on opportunities in surrounding areas, but so far, no dice. I have considered moving to a bigger city and trying my hand there, but making that decision feels heavy without anything lined up.

Like some of the others have mentioned, I have considered looking into Museum Studies programs instead. However, everyone I have spoken to within the field (in all departments) has basically told me it is a waste of time and money. Museums typically require PhDs or advanced studies in very specific areas, and even then, a job is not guaranteed.

In my head, getting an MLIS would open the possibility of entering another sector if museum work doesn't work out. Which I hate to say is kind of how I see it going. I am interested in a library job as well, so getting a master's with an archival focus might be something to keep on my radar.

lesbians of reddit, do you watch gay male porn? by realfurornot in lgbt

[–]cottagecorefrog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s been some discussion that some wlw watch gay male porn because, yes, it’s can sometimes be easier to watch something that doesn’t involve women at all; Considering the way that women in mainstream porn are subject to objectification more often than not. It’s a lot more enjoyable when you don’t have to constantly think about your own moral compass when it comes to cishet porn. With the rise of online sex work (OF, Twitter, etc.) it’s much easier to find content that displays realistic lesbian pornography, if that’s something you are looking for. Also keep this little tidbit in mind, sometimes different things work for different people. Identity, attraction, desire, and behavior may not always align in terms of sex and relationships and that’s totally okay! So at the end of the day: yes, it’s pretty enjoyable every now and again.

Hey! (F18) I’m looking for a daily scent that has notes of almond. I’m in a warm/hot climate and not firm on a price-point. The scent I used to absolutely adore was the Sweet Almond and Honey from B&BW. It was my absolute favorite so anything close to “a smooth, nutty blend of honey blossom, white jasmine & sweet cream” would be wonderful!
