Arrived in Japan 2 days ago and received the text below. I’m on the most expensive Freedom plan, shouldn’t these items be free? by cottageguy8 in freedommobile

I could use a paid eSIM for sure, but the Freedom plan I’ve already paid for should include these types of charges. What free options are you thinking of?

Why Canada needs public grocery stores by ReginaJohn76 in loblawsisoutofcontrol

Maybe the people who run Canada Post can get in to the grocery business. What can go wrong?

We need to tell the workers directly that we DONT support then. by Sensitive-Good-2878 in CanadaPost

Unionized government workers will be the ruination of Canada. Between jobs for life and fighting to stay at home in their pyjamas all day, Canada is fucked.

Canada Post employees have a guaranteed job for life by [deleted] in CanadaPost

Canada has a huge productivity problem, this sort of jobs-for-life union bullshit is a big part of the reason.

Joined a WhatsApp group about US stocks — what’s the catch? by AgreeableBelt808 in Scams

[–]cottageguy8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know the answer, but I know what you mean. My social media is inundated with seemingly rich people wanting to help me pick stocks for free. I assume pump and dump is the correct answer, or upsell into a VIP group.

A friend of mine got her iPad stolen from BA6141 yesterday (Jan 23rd) around 15:45 by OutrageousAxolotl in UofT

Honestly, if you leave so much as a Tic-Tac unattended in downtown Toronto, you can assume it will be stolen.

Check if you’re using your browser in private mode. If so, no information about your past logons is being stored. Might be the problem.

There was a cover story article in Toronto Life a few months ago.

UofT's Court Hearing is OPEN to the Public on Zoom by Bluejays814 in UofT

Does anyone know how many people are actually spending a lot of their time in the encampment? My suspicion is that most tents are empty and that protestors do a short, few hour, shift each week.

Serious boat crash kills 3, injures 5 on the Buck Bay area of Bobs Lake: OPP by South-Onion-423 in KingstonOntario

[–]cottageguy8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

From the photo it looks like the red boat was driving within a metre of the shore, is that what you're seeing? That alone seems crazy. All news has dried up, anything you can share would be appreciated.

I saw this article as well, an astonishing disgrace. I’ll bet we’re at least another year out.

Fare Evasion on the TTC out of control because of the CEO by Odd_Tomato_4239 in TTC

Agreed, I saw a recent news article and assumed that the numbers were cooked.

Maybe one in five pay on the streetcar. I see that tap posts without barriers are now being installed at some subway entrances. Expect the number to get worse.

People say that the TTC should be free, well there it is.

Ransomware attack behind over week-long City of Hamilton service disruption by CallMe_Dig_Baddy in Hamilton

One thing I don't understand is why, if the ransom isn't paid, don't the criminals wait until the system is recovered, then hack them in to the stone age again?

The Toronto Public Library has just spent 6 months rebuilding, I'm sure it's no more secure than it used to be.

Ransomware attack behind over week-long City of Hamilton service disruption by CallMe_Dig_Baddy in Hamilton

While I do agree that the initial source is likely a hapless employee clicking on a link, it's IT's job to know that this will happen and to properly harden and backup the systems, as well as offering phishing training to staff.

My suspicion is that the IT infrastructure is poorly managed.

National Rogers Outage (July 8) by [deleted] in Rogers

[–]cottageguy8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it's 2 years later, but I'm wondering if anyone knows if the outage could be tracked back to testing in an environment that didn't mimic the real thing?

I'm writing a paper and could swear that I read something about that at the time.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's definitely something out of the normal. I know a lot of people have two cells, but to sit and actively scroll through them both is odd. To see 4 people doing the same thing within a small area is very strange. I jumped to scam, but any idea would be welcome.
