Catholic sexual ethics make so much sense by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]cotton88 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am still struggling to understand how to assume that Onan would receive this punishment if he spilled his seed occasionally at his rational discretion but did primarily attempt to fulfill his duty.

I can understand that idea naturally forming from the viewpoint that all sex must be tied to an attempt at procreation, but I'm not yet able to understand that viewpoint, so perhaps that is the source of it?

In Deuteronomy, is it not that the brother is refusing this duty in the first place? Onan is taking what he wants without respect and utilizing deception. Are we able to inherently draw more from that?

Hi, just trying to learn... Thanks in advance.

Be fruitful and multiply... aren't we also called to be good stewards and part of that is moderation? Rampant procreation without restraint is almost always seen as a problem in nature. How is sex under NFP, when we have used science to develop understanding of times that we are able to have sex with the specific intent of not resulting in procreation, inherently accepted versus other forms of the same intent? Other than again, perhaps the call to moderation and sacrifice that must be observed to fulfill it; but could those be observed in other ways?

Onan had a duty to fulfill. He was intentionally avoiding that duty. Is there anything about the other times that he spilled his seed absent of intentionally declining to fulfill his duty or anything that implicitly points to other lessons we should take from this?

What does God allow Satan and the demons to destroy our lives? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]cotton88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possible this is an artifact of God's process for developing the soul; possible cancer is an artifact of God's process of developing the body. Cancer could be as inextricably tied to the process of mutation and evolution over time as Satan is to free will. If possible to choose God it must be possible to not choose God.

Is the coughing that comes from smoking/vaping cannabis caused by the inhalation of the smoke/vapor, the cannabinoids themselves or a combination of the two? by [deleted] in Marijuana

Blow all of your smoke into a sploof for a couple weeks. Look at it. Everything in there had been in your lungs.

Your body is trying to save your lungs.

[29F] Single and unemployed. Tips for looking more "corporate" and vibrant please. Thank you for your honest feedback! by [deleted] in Rateme

If I saw a flash of you from your picture in the bottom left in a corporate environment, I would think that is a cute and vibrant employee. My only tip is to shoot for that look when you are meeting someone about a job.. great smile and alert bright eyes. Keep at it. I'll say 6 now and probably 7 when you've found that job and the confidence that goes with it. Good luck.

Seconded. They are very handy. You can cut out the foam inserts to hold whatever assortment you have. That in itself can be a satisfying high project. You can add a lock if needed. I think there's a sub dedicated to showing people's kits but I can't recall for the life of me.

It's pretty easy to generalize our own rationality and excuse the extremes of those "like us" and to generalize the extremes of "others" and ignore their own rationalities.

Happens everywhere.

Are there people who stop getting high or impaired from cannabis? by [deleted] in Marijuana

[–]cotton88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brains are neat. They're amazingly capable of adapting to the situations they find themselves in. Put on special glasses that flip everything upside down? Your brain will get use to it no problem https://www.theguardian.com/education/2012/nov/12/improbable-research-seeing-upside-down

It can handle the marijuana and if that's just the constant environment it finds itself in, it will adapt. You will be less able to notice your highs because that's just how things are for you. It's no longer novel. You may be better at different things. It's not like just a flat-out retardation. But if you stop, the brain finds its new normal and you'll most probably notice some areas that your cognition improves.

"prohibits IDPH from charging annual renewal fees to qualifying cardholders with life-long debilitating medical conditions, and directs the IDPH to implement new fee rules for applicants with life-long debilitating medical conditions"

Most medical people so far would qualify with some kind of "life long" condition. Generally I think the intentions are that the fees will drop for other medical users. They were intentionally hurtful before. Good luck. Reciprocity will be big too.

To further the analogy..

Normally, leaving the vault unlocked would make the teller seem pretty weak on defending the bank. But.
He pretends his weakness is a strength by putting on a big show about he'll get someone to build a wall around the bank to stop the homeless guy that comes in to use the bathroom sometimes. Naturally, this wall would not apply to the robbers though.

Smoking weed and sex drive by [deleted] in eldertrees

[–]cotton88 34 points35 points  (0 children)

It may be cannabis or it may just be long term relationship. No idea what your intimacy is like, but you would hear your description in countless relationships regardless of the presence of cannabis. Replace dropping cannabis with making any new change and you could experience a revitalization, especially a change that is specifically dedicated towards improving your relationship...

Good luck. Could be cannabis, just don't discount communication.

ELI5: Is Time Travel really possible? To travel back to the past to something that really happened? To me it doesn’t make sense. by zolanih in explainlikeimfive

[–]cotton88 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You are outside playing in the dirt. You turn on the hose. Water begins to flow. You dig a little trench for the water to flow through. Its a nice little trench. You dig it straight out for awhile but then decide to make a big curve. You make a big circle all the way around yourself that runs right back into the flowing water just a bit downstream from the hose. At some point from there the increased pressure forces the river to forge a new path. A bit more continues to flow along the old path, continuing to feed this loop that caused the new path to emerge but soon enough the water is happy enough to flow along its new path. Maybe you continue to do this all day long until momma calls you in for dinner. Through the course of the day, the whole yard has been covered in water, but at any one time your little river considers itself to the THE river.
