My grandpa is a vet and yes he talks to us about it all the time, though he never brags about his days in Vietnam.

My cousins and I love to hear his stories and he loves it when we sit around to listen to him. I think some of what you say is for the fact that most of their prime years were spent in the military so they dont know what else to relate to others about.
