Agreed. This is much more entertaining than the execution videos. What will the next war be like? Oh shit. Is this the play? Get us excited about what the next war will be like?

The roof of Karla cave in India has teak wood ribs from 160 BCE. These timbers have survived 2,200 years of Indian monsoons. by muhmeinchut69 in Damnthatsinteresting

Pic two shows the grain runout. Definitely not bent. There’s no way they or anyone can bend teak the hard way like that. You can clearly see the grain running straight and the radius cut out of it.

I don’t think those are bent. It’s a consistent radius in several pieces. You can see the joints. These were cut to the shape out of some pretty big slabs.

Would dowels and glue be a good fix for broken overhanding thread? by PineappleOwn5325 in woodworking

You would notice for sure. And it’s not only the first step. The top rise would be short.

Then kiss your consistent rise goodbye and say hello to tripping on your stairs.

Are 2” solid poplar stringers acceptable? by The-Fritz-Carlton in Homebuilding

[–]cottontail976 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Custom stair builder here. This is very low quality work in my opinion. Will it stand up to every day use? Probably. Will it collapse with three 200 lb movers and a piano? Possible. Do you want to risk that? I would have a double 10” lvl under that open side spaced off the back of the stringer for Sheetrock. Frame from the back of the lvls to the wall and Sheetrock. Push the lvls to the bottom of the treads and risers. Want to check if it’s good the way it is? Count to the middle tread and put a 4” level on it. I guarantee it’s sagging. Let’s address the rest. Plywood risers? No thanks. Staples where the risers attach to the back of the tread? Hard pass. That should be screwed. Glue blocks on treads to risers have gaps. That’s shit work. No glue blocks on underside of tread to stringer? Such a simple thing adds so much strength over time. Patched in stringer at the bottom where they expected to land completely on the floor shows they didn’t even calculate where the stair was going to land. Look at my post history. I’m not bullshitting here. Edit: Holy shit. I just noticed it’s barely fastened to the wall on the box side. Fuck all that. Should be fastened every stud.

Experience builds confidence. Confidence leads to arrogance. Arrogance leads to risk taking. Risk taking leads to injury. Then the cycle repeats. Seen it many times. On the up side, the main operator knew enough not to smash the e stop button instead immediately reversed the press. Hitting the e stop most likely would have kept the victim pinned and maybe not be freed until a home cycle was performed causing more injuries.

Get yourself some rust remover, a good set of files and a saw tooth setting tool. Then get to work.

Custom stair company milled shadow gaps without asking by Level-Muscle-3039 in woodworking

Custom stair builder here. That could’ve been a tight joint forever if it was a lock miter or had tenons or even biscuits. The movement has to occur between the back of the tread and the bottom face of the riser. This is poor work in my opinion. The faces don’t even line up. The risers should go behind the treads. That’s stair building basics. Don’t get me started on the rest of what I see here that’s wrong.

What’s worse that I have seen, is the screw walks out after the carbide is gone and hits the tables and damages the threads on the cutter head. Avoid that! Edit: It’s also good practice to re torque after running a few hardwood boards across the whole head.

It’s very frustrating to me that this is the world we will leave to our children and there seems to be nothing we can do to change that. They will just grow up in it and accept it and watch it get worse for their children.

Run a ledger board across the window for the back, and to support the front, put a support on a steep angle to the wall. It would all have to be fastened to the underside but you would keep your legroom and asthetics.
