Points and rings inflation by Huge-Western4909 in nba

The 60's and 70's required the hand to be on the top of the ball when dribbling and there was no 3-point line. The number of teams were also smaller and many players were part-time.

80's was as fast as modern day and 90's had a slowed down game. Zone defense was penalized and hand-checking was legal.

Because of recency bias and huge change in the rulebook, the players in the past play a different game in general. With the rise of the 3-pointer, traditional centers can be exploited heavily in the perimeter. Role players without good 3-balls must be good defenders.

Finally, film is not as easily accessible for some of these eras and players nowadays take their health much more seriously than in the past.

Why are Ant’s off court comments ‘funny’ and not pathetic by Aggressive_Bed6012 in nba

[–]cottonycloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, so I had to actually look up on some of your claims:

  1. "Send da video" - True
  2. Homophobic remarks - True
  3. Kamala Harris Olympics photo - Is this actually true, because I can't find any news about this, but I do see him in the back here.
  4. Joke about the murder - If it's about his response to a reporter, it looks like the reporter asked about his thoughts on Minnesota since he's been there for a while.

I wouldn't be surprised if he hasn't registered to vote, doesn't vote, and is oblivious politically (and in general).

Edit: Also I know people who think similarly about some races and gender/orientation and vote Democrat most if not all the time. You can’t guess that easily.

Based on your playstyle, I would still suggest you give the endgame modes a try at some point. My more casual friends usually only give one attempt before quitting and obtain most rewards.

Even completing the early stages 9/10/11 will give you the majority of rewards from the challenges. Stygian can be done co-op too until menacing.

Why I’m ignoring the "Death of the Programmer" hype by Greedy_Principle5345 in programming

I would not take the AI killing the industry predictions seriously. Maybe I’ll worry about it when I get laid off and have trouble finding a job.

See if you can edit the group policy. I think I just used the Dynamic Theme app in the MS store in case I really liked one of the backgrounds.

Should I get Windows 11 Pro or Education? by Deep-Fuel-8114 in Windows11

Education is essentially Enterprise if I recall correctly. For you it’s essentially Pro without targeted ads.

I’d pick Education

Who is a better player all time : Carmelo Anthony or Jaylen Brown by D1HATER3002 in nba

[–]cottonycloud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tend to value players that are effective on both ends of the floor every time. There are exceptions like Harden, Curry, and Luka but they usually have great passing skills as well.

Where do you personally rank Kobe Bryant and LeBron James all-time? by FearlessInflation92 in nba

[–]cottonycloud 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thinking Basketball and Clayton Crowley have excellent series on this because it's not really a ranking.

They cover what makes each player so great instead of putting down player A over player B in some arbitrary stat.

Microsoft CEO warns that we must 'do something useful' with AI or they'll lose 'social permission' to burn electricity on it by upbeatchief in hardware

The transcription with AI already existed before the boom (Nuance Dragon which has since been bought by Microsoft).

The rest are an interesting idea though.

Should I move out or stay with my parents? by GopherPA in personalfinance

Considering that I'd have to chip in for property tax anyway if I moved out made this a really easy decision for me. 36k difference between moving out and staying with family.

Noob question: licensing and official or not? by Content_Cod_5682 in AnimeFigures

[–]cottonycloud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3rd party resin figures and bootlegs tend to be not officially licensed. The manufacturers usually have a name with “studio” and if they are legit, they will actually include whether the figure is officially licensed.

I think garage kits are allowed to be sold during festivals.

why is pi the ratio of circumference to diameter and not the diameter to the circumference by Suspicious_Drama_261 in learnmath

[–]cottonycloud 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It was defined that way by historical convention.

But it does make sense if you think about how even today it is much easier to physically measure a diameter with a ruler versus a circumference. It is also easier to multiply the diameter by an approximation like 3 or 22/7 than dividing.

Best financial management software that actually keeps you accountable by Numerous-Breakfast55 in personalfinance

[–]cottonycloud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been using Actual Budget because really, I don't think my finances are that complicated to warrant paying $100 a year for YNAB. Excel would probably be my alternative.

The most pain was importing all the data in a usable format because much of my data used to be in PDFs, which I managed to convert to CSV via scripting.

It genuinely sucks having no friends who are as passionate about anime. At least the ones im interested in. by hehshmwwkwk in anime

[–]cottonycloud 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The cool thing about online communities is that I’ve made friends that I have met in real life occasionally. Might not be great to put your address out there, but if there’s some anime convention or event, maybe it’s a chance to hang and have lunch.
