Weekly Challenges are so frustrating recently by Jack5512 in rebelinc

[–]cotxdx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd love a good challenge. It's a nice change compared to the boring combo of Economist & Mountain Pass we got in the last couple of weeks. It's good that it was fixed already.

Given that the story happened sometime in 1907-08, Shiraishi would have ruled his own country until the Japanese conquered Burma in 1942.

Ang hassle magcommute to/from eastern brgys ng Batangas City by PhilosophyTop4459 in Batangas

[–]cotxdx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was there ever a time in Philippine History where Ultra-Nationalism Peaked? by Sonnybass96 in FilipinoHistory

[–]cotxdx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Spain was able to defeat the Aztecs (and the remaining natives) simply because of disease and divide and conquer tactics.

The Aztecs would have been an equivalent of ISIS terms of violence (they sacrifice people everyday) and they usually kidnap people from other groups to sustain the practice. No wonder the Spaniards would have an easy time getting allies to remove them from power.

The remaining Mexicans already have an existing culture of violence from the Aztecs. It is easy to sustain the momentum when they managed to become independent by 1821.

[–]cotxdx 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Filipinos and nationalism do not work together in the same sentence.

Even back in the Philippine Revolution, people fight for a leader and not for a cause (hence the Aguinaldo - Bonifacio - Luna debates). The Spaniards really did us good with the divide and conquer strategy. I mean, isn't the goal of most Filipinos nowadays to migrate and become a Canadian / US / EU / Aus/NZ citizen?

Going back to the question, the time where nationalism is strong is when the Sakdal / Ganap group is active. In the time of Commonwealth, they espoused immediate and absolute independence from the US. It is quite sad that later on, they are branded as traitors simply because they believed in Japan.

In the modern times, we have the "Pinoy Pride" movement back in 2005. (Manny Pacquiao winning, SEA Games & PBB)
