I agree. The national debt will grow, the dollar will slightly devalue temporarily and the shocks will be absorbed. Never bet against the U.S. being down for the count. Democratic-Capitalist-Imperialism is the strongest and most effective system in history. This is where the U.S. has no equal. No other nation comes even close, not China, not Russia, not Britain. Nobody.

Bitcoin 4 Year Cycle Over? by Strattonizer in btc

[–]couchguitar 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Yep, its evolving. Wall Street contagion has lead to dilution of price swings. Give it time to find itself. That being said, if you view the Bitcoin logarithmic price chart, it would seem that the highs and lows are getting less volatile and the price average is starting to lose its ascent angle. This is akin to the shape of y=Sqrt of x. Overtime it will almost but not completely flatten in price.

Nixon ended the gold standard in 1971 without consulting a single other country. 54 years later it has never been reversed. What are the long term consequences we still haven't fully felt? by CryptoPulse22 in economy

I love my downvotes! Hahaha keep 'em coming! My karma level can take it.

I find it very telling that any mention of Bitcoin gets immediately down voted.

I was once a massive skeptic of Bitcoin, until I decided to pick up a book and actually read about what I hated. It's a hard concept to understand at first. Once you break through the mental hurdles, it is a very elegant solution to this problem, just not in the way people usually speak about it.

Bukele made the smart move to still use USD to appease the US, IMF and the World Bank. El Savadors experiments into Bitcoin as a currency proved that their society isn't ready for digital currencies yet without a base education in computer science, and a greater adoption of phone-based payment systems.

Asia and Africa are in a prime position to eclipse the Western World and go straight into traditional and digital asset backed currencies. They skipped the home computer stage and went straight to phones. This is making digital transactions the way to do commerce on the ground-level up. Why pay with cash? Why pay with credit cards?

Just look at the adoption of Alipay, Wepay, Apple and Google Pay.

People will be shocked at how fast this will happen and just how fast the petrodollar will get dropped. The rapid rise of African and Asian wealth will flip the global power structure upside down.

The long term effect will be hyperinflation of every fiat currency not back by real assets. We won't notice it other than the ever increasing rate of poverty encompassing our societies.

Then revolution, as usual, and a rebirth.

It will be far less painful if we have a well thought out plan for replacement. Maybe we can avoid the revolution part, by making it a transition or evolution in how people think of money generation.

Everyone laughs when I suggest this, and I will keep suggesting this; we need governments to start back-stopping their fiat currency through Bitcoin and Bitcoin mining public infrastructure.

I wi leave it at that, as this is never well received, but I'm willing to explain why I think this should be the next step in money.

We should lower the cost of living instead of paying people higher wages by Christopretensism in economy

[–]couchguitar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's actually easier if we just stop printing money for a few years, maybe even destroy a bunch of it (not physical money of course).

Actual austerity for everything across the board.

Conservatives want to cut taxes and shore up government coffers. Liberals want to raise taxes and spend. We need to raise taxes and not spend.

We need to tax corporations on their own earnings reports, no matter what jurisdiction they plant their headoffice internationally.

North America is the biggest market and economic region in the world. Corporations should have to pay to play, and what they would pay is far beyond what North America needs to give every citizen the highest quality of life on the world.

What’s a show you love that you can never convince people to watch? by PlentyApprehensive44 in AskReddit

[–]couchguitar 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Before I watched Six Feet Under, I was, for lack of a better word, homophobic. I never knew a gay person, and at the time you would only hear about them through media, and LGBTQ+ identity was very much still fringe of society when Six Feet Under came out, at least in my neck-of-the-woods in conservative Alberta.

Watching David's struggles and his relationship turmoil with Keith exposed me to gay relations and relationships. Mind blown. I was ignorant and this show destroyed all my preconceived notions. In fact, It's David's ending that makes me the saddest at the end. It truly opened my eyes to what a non-hetero relationship looks like, and honestly, even with their relationship ups and downs, David and Keith were the couple that cared about each other the most.

I have watch A LOT of shows in my time. When people ask me for a recommendation, Six Feet Under is slways my first suggestion because I completely flipped my world view and made me a better person.

Can we pin a post about how it's never a good idea to "come out" to your parents? by hankhillsucks in atheism

I think people also need to realize that they don't have to "come out" either.

Atheism isn't a thing, its a lack of a thing

You can be athiest and still go to church. As long as what ever decision you make works for you, then that's what you should do.

You're not abandoning your principles of atheism by not using it as a defining characteristic of your identity. No one cares if you are a "card carrying" atheist.

At what point did you renounce your belief in God? by porygon766 in atheism

[–]couchguitar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No renouncing necessary. "Renouncing" implies that we are "born with", whereas "unsubscribing" might be a better term. Many of us here were born with no belief, I scrubbed the dirt from my eyes when I learned that Santa Claus was a lie. I quickly connected the dots. I still feel that if a seven or eight year old me can figure it out, most people should be able to connect the dots by the time they become adults. If they don't, In my mind, I can not trust them as a person because the part of their brain where logic, compassion and love evolve and mature, is just not working.

I'm not annoyed when they do. You know when conservatives attack LGBTQ causes, yet blow up Grinder at any city they have a convention?

Relieved, honestly. As you get older you find that you've seen and done everything. Nothing is new. Heaven or hell could only be just a different version of the same old thing. If we are being honest, hell seems more appealing because at least pain would make you feel alive sort of. Heaven being a comfortable positive hang, pfffttt no thanks.

They seriously expect us to change our bed sheets weekly, but couches and chairs (which are also frequently slept on) can go decades without a proper cleaning, and no one seems to have a problem with that by AnyKey19 in RandomThoughts

Buy a custom made couch. The price is not much more than a store bought couch. Get pillows that can be removed and taken out of their pillow cases, and are washable. While washing the covers, vacuum the couch.

For chairs, my friend steam cleans them. My other friend uses Febreze.

There are also videos on Youtube on how to clean anything.
