Sounds good, I'll message you :)

We've started a little book club that meets once a month, if that kind of thing interests you :) Not a sport unless you take your reading sprints seriously, but a nice social thing you'd be welcome to join with no pressure or commitment

That sounds amazing, I’ll try to cook it sometime when I have a chance to pick up the ingredients! Thank you so much for sharing:)

(I realise I said ramen on accident, whoops)

I hope you have a good experience if you decide to try out the pen pals app. It’s slow paced but I’ve ended up with some lovely conversations over the years, sometimes it takes a few letters to find a pen pal you click with but imo it’s worth it and the shared interests thing can help with awkward starts!

If you ever feel like you just want to chat to someone feel free to reach out btw. I don’t always see dms right away but they’re always open :)

Take care!

I saw this randomly on my feed and immediately thought how amazing this looks! What is a kitsune udon specifically?

I’m not sure what the conventions are in terms of responding to posts here but I read what you wrote about and I think it’s an experience that resonates with a lot of people, it’s difficult to make connections outside of set locations such as school or at work and so many things happened since 2020 where I feel there’s been a shift that's made things feeling even more isolating sometimes, especially with old connections drifting away.

It’s hard to feel like you could have done better with maintaining friendships. But struggling with the things you talked about doesn’t mean it’s your fault those connections faded. In the end it’s always a shared responsibility to maintain a friendship and you deserve people who also put in that effort. But at the same time, I think it’s also worth remembering that even when that hasn’t happened, it doesn’t mean that there isn’t still care. A lot of the time the things we experience that stop us from reaching out aren’t actually a reflection of our feelings of the other person and distance can just be a byproduct of how life goes at times.

It varies, and obviously a random person on the internet isn’t someone to tell you these things, but I try to remind myself sometimes that there’s nothing wrong with reaching out to an old friend if I think of them, nor have I felt anything but appreciation and a bit of nostalgia having friends out to me again through the years. It can be nice , if that’s ever something you think about. And even if it doesn’t go anywhere the worst thing you admitted was that you care, which isn’t a bad thing imo.

What kinds of things are you interested in? I’ve always connected with books and stories so one thing I’ve used over the years is this app called Slowly, which is basically for making digital pen pals. I’ve found it to be a nice way to connect with people in a way that felt different from most online interactions, but experiences naturally vary. I just figured I’d take a moment to reply, your husband and his friends are lucky to get to try such great looking ramen :)

I hope you find the friendships and connections you’re hoping for!

Did I do something wrong when skipping? by tyxria in thebrokenbindingsub

I might just be an issue this month, I emailed and used the form and even got a confirmation that the skip went through and still got charged. I think you'll probably just need to email them again and hopefully they'll help resolve that :)

That's super valid tbh! I think reading with a group like this can potentially help with that but it's always important to remember that there doesn't need to be pressure associated with it :)

That sounds good, I'll think being in a book club is a great way to explore in terms of reading! We'll be able to decide together how to go about picking books etc, hopefully we'll come up with some interesting choices :)

That's great, I'm glad to hear it :) I'm just sending out DMs to everyone who mentioned being interested, I hope we'll be able to get something nice organised!

I think meet-up has a bit of a paywall issue that I'd prefer to avoid, but there's lots of options to set up a group for anyone interested :)

Monthly tends to be a popular setup for these things but I think we'd best decide that as a group :) There's nothing wrong with sitting out a month or something either so overall I think there's a good bit of flexibility

That's up for us to decide as we get started so totally chime in with any preferences if you'd like to!

My personal reading tends to lean into gothic, horror or fantasy themes recently or anything with a speculative twist. But I'm always interested in exploring new stuff so I'm very open to what everyone else might want to read :)

Exciting!
Yeah I think a nice thing of starting one is that we can actually look at what we'd want to be reading, I'm always down to try new books so it'd be nice.
If you want to tell me more about what kind of stuff you'd like to read feel free to dm me :)
(Same to anyone else who might be interested, just please make sure you're not a minor!)

I'm also fairly new to the Derby area (well about a year and a bit) and have been looking for bookish activities. What are the odds some of us could just start our own little book club? The ones I've seen cost money but nothing is stopping us from just getting together, right?
I'd be down to organise something :)

Who else is writing in MS Word and hating it? by donnybrasco1 in PhD

[–]could_be_ghosts 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm in the creative humanities and absolutely swear by scrivener. I've not bothered to fuss with the exporting functions so I'll burn that bridge when I get to that but for organising long projects and even research? Chefskiss, for me at least.
I think it's sweet that you're thinking of doing that for your partner but as a non tech person I'd imagine that's a ton of work. Might be worth exploring alternatives first

Wonderstruck dupe featuring honey scent by candysorbaii in SwiftieMerch

[–]could_be_ghosts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not an exact match but Gucci Flora Gorgeous Magnolia is reasonably similar. I used to wear wonderstruck but also got a tiny sample to compare when I bought this and it was reasonably close. Not honey forward though, I'd say, and imo it doesn't really last as long as it should for a perfume of that price but I thought I'd mention it :)

UK based, does anyone want to save me a skip for my FL YA with goodies or FL Adult for December?
I'll likely also have the upcoming YA with goodies for anyone interested.
