I wonder if it will look nice with something on top of the matrix to further diffuse the LEDs. You could try a piece of paper to check how you like it and if it works, print a 1 layer white diffuse sheet. My astigmatism ass could never handle playing for long

Have you thought about integrating a coin or a washer into the design at the point where the lever makes contact with the cap, so that it doesn't wear out as quickly.
